Campgrounds and RV parks near Shelbyville, TN

The Duck River is the anchor for most outdoor activity in the area. Henry Horton State Park sits next to the Duck River, one of the world's most diverse ecosystems, with guided kayak floats on the park's event calendar, self-guided paddling, bank fishing, and hiking through forests, sinkholes, cedar glades, and wetlands. Normandy Reservoir, a short drive east, is the region's boating and fishing hub. Barton Springs has a total of 128 campsites, all with a lake view, and 11 lakefront sites where campers can fish from their site. Cedar Point has a day use area, boat launch, small general store, and a boat ramp with plenty of parking, making it a base for anglers targeting largemouth bass and other warm-water species. In town, the Tennessee Walking Horse Celebration grounds, downtown Shelbyville, and nearby distilleries in Lynchburg and Tullahoma give RV travelers non-camping days to fill.

Spring and fall are the strongest RV windows in Middle Tennessee. Daytime temperatures are mild, humidity is manageable, and the TVA lake campgrounds are open. At Barton Springs, the season opens Friday, March 15th and closes Sunday, November 15th, and Cedar Point follows the same season, opening March 15th and closing November 15th. Travelers planning trips outside those months should confirm which sites remain accessible. Summer brings the heaviest bookings and the hottest, most humid weather. Lakefront sites at Normandy and riverside sites along the Duck River fill quickly around holiday weekends, and the Tennessee Walking Horse National Celebration in late August draws large crowds to Shelbyville, tightening availability across every campground in the county. Winter camping is possible at Henry Horton, which is open year-round with reservations available online at reserve.tnstateparks.com. Two bathhouses operate seasonally, with one remaining open during winter. Expect cold nights, occasional freezes, and reduced services at the lake campgrounds during the closed season.

Expect standard Middle Tennessee campground conditions: shaded gravel or grass sites, water and electric hookups at most named parks, and dump stations rather than full sewer at many locations. Henry Horton offers a drive-up RV campground with water and electric hookups, a primitive tent campground, and a small number of drive-in primitive sites without hookups, and tent camping is also permitted in the RV campground. At the Normandy Reservoir campgrounds, sites tend to be spacious with lake views. Barton Springs offers large gravel sites, pull-through with electrical and water hookups, with a majority accommodating big rigs, across 128 campsites; all sites have a lake view and 11 sites are lakefront. Cedar Point has 53 campsites, 45 with water and electric hookups and 8 primitive. Quiet hours, leashed-pet rules, and generator restrictions are standard across the area.
