Campgrounds near South Pittsburg, Tennessee
South Pittsburg sits in Marion County along the Tennessee River, within reach of the Chattanooga metropolitan area. The town is a practical base for RV travelers heading to the Cumberland Plateau, Nickajack Lake, and the trails around Chattanooga, with several campgrounds within a short drive.
Waterfront options cluster along the river. Hales Bar Marina and Resort, in nearby Guild, features 53 paved RV sites with full hookups including septic, water, and 50/30/20 amp electric, with both waterfront and off-water sites available. Sasquatch Farm RV Park and Cow Creek Camping provide smaller, quieter alternatives closer to town.
For state-park camping, Foster Falls - South Cumberland State Park is the closest public option. The campground is open year-round, has 26 rustic campsites in a forested area, and can accommodate tents, trailers and small RVs up to about 25 feet. Travelers wanting a full-service RV resort with pools and organized amenities can head south to Lookout Mountain / Chattanooga West KOA Holiday, roughly a half-hour drive.
Things to do near South Pittsburg
Hiking and waterfalls dominate the itinerary. South Cumberland State Park covers a large stretch of the plateau across multiple counties, with waterfalls, cascading streams, rocky gorges, and Foster Falls itself in Marion County. Foster Falls has also become a popular destination for sport climbing on high-quality sandstone, with scenic hiking trails along the Fiery Gizzard system.
On the water, Nickajack Lake and the Tennessee River offer fishing, paddling, and boat rentals. Hales Bar Marina runs a full-service marina with over 220 covered slips ranging from 30 to 80 feet, plus a seasonal pool and on-site distillery tours.
Families with a day to spare can drive into Chattanooga for the Tennessee Aquarium, the Incline Railway, and Rock City atop Lookout Mountain.

Summer is the busiest season. South Cumberland State Park stays open year-round, but most visitors come in summer for swimming holes, creeks, and the waterfall. Weekends at Foster Falls and Hales Bar fill early, so RV travelers should reserve well ahead for June through August. The Hales Bar pool operates seasonally from Memorial Day through Labor Day.
Spring and fall are the sweet spot for hiking and climbing, with cooler temperatures on the trails. Wildflowers appear along the Fiery Gizzard trail system in April and May, and fall color on the plateau typically peaks in mid to late October.
Winter camping is possible but limited. Daytime highs in Chattanooga average around the low 50s in winter, with overnight lows near freezing, and occasional ice or snow can affect plateau roads. Foster Falls stays open year-round, though marina pool service and some amenities shut down between Labor Day and Memorial Day.

The van was perfect for our biking road trip into the mountains. It was easy to drive and made for a comfortable camp out. The kitchen was fun to use and had everything we needed. The hosts were so easy to work with at pick up and drop off. Eric actually biked to our house and picked up the van. We will definitely do it again!

Kandice & her husband Joe were amazing!! They were so attentive & accommodating. Every last detail was thought of inside the trailer & out. The trailer was so clean & was decorated so beautifully. We’ve rented other trailers before but hands down they were the best hosts! If we’re ever in the area again we will 100% book back with them!

How to book campgrounds near South Pittsburg
State-park sites use Tennessee's online reservation system at reserve.tnstateparks.com. Reservations are required for Foster Falls and for the backcountry campsites, and can be made up to one year in advance online or by phone, with a non-refundable advance reservation fee per site. Check-in for camping is 12:00 pm Central and check-out is 10:00 am Central.
Private parks book directly. Hales Bar Marina and Resort handles RV park, marina slips, and floating cabins separately by phone or through its website. Lookout Mountain / Chattanooga West KOA Holiday takes reservations through the KOA website or app, and smaller operators like Sasquatch Farm RV Park and Cow Creek Camping typically respond fastest to a direct call.
For holiday weekends and the peak June to August window, plan to book roughly two to three months out for private parks and as much as a year out for Foster Falls.
What to expect on arrival
Expect a mix of full-hookup RV resorts and rustic state-park sites. At Foster Falls, no water or electrical hookups are available, and gas generators are not permitted, so RV campers should plan accordingly. The rustic campsites can accommodate tents, trailers, and small RVs up to about 25 feet, with drinking water, flush toilets, and heated showers on site. Larger rigs will be more comfortable at Hales Bar Marina or the KOA, which handle big rigs on paved pads.
Cell coverage is uneven on the plateau, and Wi-Fi at more remote spots can be spotty.
Bringing untreated firewood in from outside the park is prohibited to protect against invasive pests, and gathering is limited to dead material already on the ground. Black bears are present in the region, so food should be stored inside the RV overnight.

The one area to take slowly is Monteagle Mountain on I-24, a well-known steep grade where low gear and steady braking are essential, especially in larger Class A rigs. Watch for fog in low-lying river areas during early mornings. Many also offer delivery and setup if you'd rather skip driving. Pickup is typically from the host's driveway in South Pittsburg, Jasper, or Kimball, with a 30 to 60 minute walkthrough. Mileage policies vary by listing, from 100 free miles a night to unlimited mileage, so check before booking. rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=South%20Pittsburg%2C%20TennesseeHow does payment and the security deposit work on RVezy?
Booking is simple and secure: you pay through the RVezy platform with a credit card, and the host never handles your payment directly. A refundable security deposit is pre-authorized on your card before pickup and released after drop-off, assuming the RV comes back in the same condition it left. The protection plan you select at checkout covers most accidental damage, so the deposit is really there as a backstop. Pro tip: take date-stamped photos and a quick video at both pickup and return, it's the easiest way to keep your South Pittsburg RV rental deposit issue-free.
