Campgrounds near Wartrace, Tennessee
Wartrace sits in Bedford County in southern Middle Tennessee, roughly an hour southeast of Nashville and a short drive from Manchester, Shelbyville, and Tullahoma. The area is anchored by the Duck River and the Normandy Reservoir, a TVA-managed lake that supplies most of the region's water-based camping.
RV travelers have a mix of options within a short drive. Cedar Point Campground and Barton Springs Campground sit on Normandy Lake and are managed under a TVA partnership. Old Stone Fort State Archaeological Park in Manchester sits along the Duck River, with wooded campsites near the park's trails, waterfalls, and river views. Crossing Creeks Farm and The Broken Banjo RV Park round out the private options nearby.
The location works well as a base for the Jack Daniel's Distillery in Lynchburg, the Tennessee Walking Horse country around Shelbyville, and day trips into Nashville. Sites range from full-hookup pads suited to larger rigs to primitive tent spaces.
Things to do near Wartrace
Normandy Lake is the main draw for on-water activity, with public boat access sites at Wards Chapel, Barton Springs, Boyds Branch, and Normandy Dam. Public fishing piers are located at the Barton Springs access, with bank fishing available near Normandy Dam. Early spring is a strong time to bass fish on Normandy Reservoir.
Old Stone Fort State Park protects a roughly 2,000-year-old Native American earthwork and has a loop trail along the Duck River past several waterfalls. Shelbyville hosts the Tennessee Walking Horse National Celebration in late summer, and the Jack Daniel's Distillery in Lynchburg is roughly a 30-minute drive south. Families staying at Cedar Point Campground have access to a day-use area, swim beach, and boat ramp.

The TVA lake campgrounds operate on a defined season. Cedar Point and Barton Springs typically open in mid-spring and close in mid-fall, so winter RV trips route to Old Stone Fort or private parks that stay open year-round.
Spring brings mild temperatures, wildflowers along the Duck River, and strong bass fishing on Normandy. Summer is peak season, with warm days, long evenings, and heavier weekend demand on lake sites. Humidity is high and afternoon thunderstorms are common, so families should plan shaded activities or morning outings.
Reservations in advance are advisable, especially during peak seasons like fall when changing leaves attract more visitors. At Old Stone Fort, showers are not available in December, January, and February because that restroom building is not open during the off-season, so cold-weather campers should plan accordingly.
