Campgrounds and RV parks near Agua Dulce, TX

Hueco Tanks State Park and Historic Site is the closest public land draw. Hueco Tanks is a world-class bouldering destination, and the park also protects extensive rock art, so pictograph tours and ranger orientations are as much of a draw as the climbing. Franklin Mountains State Park sits on the north edge of El Paso and is one of the largest urban wilderness parks in the country. It offers more than 100 miles of trails popular with hikers and mountain bikers, plus designated rock climbing in McKelligon Canyon and at Sneed's Cory in the Tom Mays Unit. In town, families can visit the El Paso Zoo, catch a Triple-A baseball game, and drive the historic Mission Trail. Guadalupe Mountains National Park and White Sands National Park are both within day-trip range for a longer stay.

El Paso sits in the Chihuahuan Desert and runs on a classic hot-desert calendar. Per Texas Parks and Wildlife, winter temperatures at Franklin Mountains State Park range from about 32 to 60 degrees, summer highs run 68 to 95 degrees, and spring and fall are mild with sunny days and cool nights. That makes spring and fall the sweet spot for RV travel, with pleasant days for hiking and cool nights for sleeping without heavy air conditioning. Summer brings the wet season. Average rainfall in the park ranges from 7 to 10 inches per year, with thunderstorm activity peaking during July and August. Afternoon storms can be intense but usually pass quickly, and afternoon highs above 100 degrees are common enough that hikes are best planned for early morning. Winter is the peak season for one specific use case: bouldering at Hueco Tanks. During the busy climbing season, roughly mid November through mid March, the 60 daily reservation spots on North Mountain fill quickly, so book early. Snowbird RVers also cluster in El Paso from November through March for the mild, dry conditions.

Agua Dulce itself is a small residential community without commercial campgrounds inside its boundaries, so RVers stage from parks along I-10 in El Paso. Expect flat, gravel or paved sites, full hookups, and desert landscaping rather than shade trees. Access off I-10 is easy, laundry facilities and dog parks are common, and freeway noise is a real factor at parks near the interstate. At the Texas state parks, conditions are more primitive. Franklin Mountains has 14 walk-in tent sites and five self-contained RV sites in the Tom Mays Unit, with no water or electricity, so bring enough water for drinking, cooking, and cleaning. Hueco Tanks offers 16 sites with electricity and four water-only sites, all limited to short stays. Cell coverage is strong in and around El Paso and weaker inside the state parks. Wind, dust, and intense sun are the three most consistent surprises for first-time desert campers.
