Campgrounds near Bristol, Texas
Bristol is a small census-designated place in northeastern Ellis County, sitting along Farm to Market Road 660 about eighteen miles northeast of Waxahachie and part of the greater Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex. The surrounding Blackland Prairie is rural and flat, with farmland, wildflower fields, and small lakes defining the landscape. Elevation sits near 489 feet.
RV travelers use Bristol as a quiet base for exploring Ennis, the official Bluebonnet City of Texas, and Bardwell Lake, a U.S. Army Corps of Engineers reservoir southwest of Ennis. Dallas is roughly 45 minutes north by Interstate 45, putting major-city attractions within an easy day trip while sites stay outside the city rush.
Nearby private options range from boutique to full-service. The Range Vintage Trailer Resort and Rockett RV Ranch offer smaller, character-driven stays, while Ennis Luxury RV Resort, Dallas Shady Oaks RV Park, and Rusted Rail RV Park cover longer-term and larger-rig needs. Corps-managed parks around Bardwell Lake add public lakefront camping to the mix.
Things to do near Bristol
Spring visitors come for the Ennis Bluebonnet Trail, a mapped route of more than 40 miles of driving through wildflower fields, active from April 1 through April 30 and sponsored by the Ennis Garden Club. Trail maps are available at the Ennis Welcome Center. The National Polka Festival, held each Memorial Day weekend in May at Ennis fraternal halls and historic downtown, adds live music, Czech food, dancing, and a Saturday parade.
Bardwell Lake, southwest of Ennis, is the main outdoor hub. Anglers target bass, crappie, and catfish, and the lake has boat ramps, swim areas, and picnic grounds. The Ennis Railroad and Cultural Heritage Museum, historic downtown Ennis, and Dallas-area attractions such as the Dallas Arboretum round out rainy-day and family options.

April is the peak window. The Ennis Bluebonnet Trail runs the full month, drawing tens of thousands of visitors, with blooms typically peaking around the third week of April. Campgrounds within an hour of the trails book out weeks ahead, so plan early and confirm bloom status with the Ennis Garden Club, which drives the routes weekly starting in late March.
Summer is hot and humid, with August daytime highs averaging in the mid-90s Fahrenheit. Lake camping at Bardwell remains popular for swimming and fishing, though shaded sites are limited and afternoon thunderstorms are common. Fall brings the wettest month, October, along with cooler evenings, making it a comfortable shoulder season for touring.
Winters are mild but variable, with occasional freezes and rare light snow. Most private RV parks stay open year-round, and Corps campgrounds at Bardwell Lake are reservable through Recreation.gov, though facilities and staffing scale back outside the main season.

Our experience with Yeehaw rentals and the owner Darren was great. There was a lot of good communication. We understood what needed to be done. He delivered as requested in a timely manner and we were able to meet with him. Do a walk-through of the Trailer and ensure that everything was in good working order. Him and his partner showed us all the different working aspects of the inside of the trailer and the outside I would definitely rent with them again

How to book campgrounds near Bristol
Public campgrounds at Bardwell Lake, including High View Park, Mott Park, and Waxahachie Creek Park, are managed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and are reservable through Recreation.gov or by phone at 1-877-444-6777. Stays are capped at 14 days within any consecutive 30-day period across the entire Bardwell Lake project. Card payment is required at Bardwell Lake parks.
Private parks such as The Range Vintage Trailer Resort, Rockett RV Ranch, Ennis Luxury RV Resort, Dallas Shady Oaks RV Park, and Rusted Rail RV Park book directly through their own websites or by phone. For April bluebonnet weekends and Polka Festival weekend in May, reserve as early as possible, ideally several months out.
What to expect on-site
Sites near Bristol tend to be open and grassy with limited mature shade, typical of the Blackland Prairie. Corps parks at Bardwell Lake provide water and electric hookups in both 30-amp and 50-amp configurations; dump stations are available on-site. Adapters between 30 and 50 amp (dog bones) are not permitted at Bardwell, so rigs need matching service.
Private resorts in the area generally offer full hookups, laundry, showers, and Wi-Fi, with some providing pools and pull-through sites for larger rigs. Cell coverage is generally solid closer to Ennis and Waxahachie and can be spottier at lakeside sites.
Expect mosquitoes and ticks in warmer months, strong sun with limited natural shade, and occasional severe thunderstorms in spring. Firewood should be bought locally to avoid transporting pests.
