Camping near Cedar Point, Texas
Cedar Point sits on the eastern shore of Lake Livingston in Polk County, Texas, roughly 75 miles north of Houston in the East Texas Pineywoods. The community is a lakefront neighborhood between Livingston and Onalaska, and the surrounding area is one of the more popular RV destinations in the region thanks to a large reservoir ringed by pine forest, marinas, and full-service RV resorts.
RV travelers base themselves at private parks strung along the shoreline. Waterfront Lodge Marina and RV Park and North Shore RV Resort put anglers and boaters within walking distance of the water, while Two Creeks Crossing Resort and On The Lake RV Resort cater to longer stays with resort-style amenities. Lake Livingston RV Park rounds out the closest options for travelers who want full hookups without straying far from Highway 190 or Highway 59.
Lake Livingston State Park sits on the opposite shore off FM 3126, providing a public alternative with hookup loops, screened shelters, and multiple boat ramps.
Things to do around Cedar Point
The lake is the main draw. Fishing is a year-round activity, with white bass, catfish, crappie, and largemouth on most anglers' lists. Boat ramps, marinas, and fish-cleaning stations are common at private resorts and inside Lake Livingston State Park, which also has three boat ramps, two fish-cleaning stations, a fishing pier, and bank fishing.
Families typically split time between swimming, kayaking in sheltered coves, and short hikes on pine-shaded trails at Lake Livingston State Park. Alligators live in the surrounding area, so children and pets should be kept back from the shoreline and away from vegetation at the water's edge.
Off the water, Livingston has grocery stores, an 18-hole golf course, a museum, and the annual Alabama-Coushatta Powwow each June. Sam Houston National Forest and Huntsville State Park are within a short drive for day trips.

Spring and fall are the sweet spots for RV travel in this part of East Texas. March through May brings warm days, blooming dogwoods, and a strong fishing bite, though May is also the wettest month of the year and thunderstorms roll through regularly. September through November delivers cooler evenings and thinner weekend crowds at the private resorts, though October is often a wet month as well.
Summer is peak family season. Days routinely climb into the mid-90s with high humidity, and lakefront sites at parks like Waterfront Lodge Marina and RV Park and On The Lake RV Resort book out weeks ahead of major holidays. Atlantic hurricane season runs June through November, and remnants of Gulf storms can push heavy rain inland.
Winters are short and mild. Freezes are brief, most private parks stay open year-round, and Lake Livingston State Park is undergoing improvements that may close some camping loops through the following autumn.
Booking an RV site near Cedar Point
Private resorts around Cedar Point take reservations directly through their own websites or by phone, and most require a deposit at booking. Waterfront sites at North Shore RV Resort, Two Creeks Crossing Resort, and Lake Livingston RV Park fill first for spring break, Memorial Day, Independence Day, and Labor Day weekends. Booking six to eight weeks ahead is realistic for summer holidays, and shoulder-season weekends are usually available closer in.
Lake Livingston State Park uses the Texas Parks and Wildlife reservation system, and most overnight sites can be booked up to five months in advance. Friday or Saturday nights require a two-night minimum. A per-person daily entrance fee applies on top of the campsite. No-shows are cancelled at noon the day after the scheduled arrival, so late arrivals should call ahead to the park or customer service.
What to expect on arrival
Most private RV parks on this stretch of Lake Livingston offer 30 and 50 amp full hookups, concrete or gravel pads, laundry, and a camp store. Shade is generous under the East Texas pines and hardwoods, which helps in summer but means checking site dimensions before booking a larger rig with slide-outs.
Cell service is reliable across the Cedar Point area on major carriers, and Wi-Fi is standard at resorts like Two Creeks Crossing Resort and Lake Livingston RV Park. Groceries, fuel, propane, and boat supplies are available in Livingston and Onalaska, both within a short drive.
A few practical notes: mosquitoes and biting flies are active from late spring through early fall, alligators are present in the lake and connected sloughs, and severe thunderstorms can arrive quickly. Check the forecast before launching a boat and secure awnings when leaving the site.
