Campgrounds near Cisco, Texas
Cisco sits in Eastland County along Interstate 20, roughly halfway between Fort Worth and Abilene in the Cross Timbers region of north-central Texas. The town serves as a practical basecamp for RV travelers heading to Lake Leon, a 28,000 acre-foot reservoir with great fishing located seven miles southeast of Eastland, as well as smaller Lake Cisco just north of town.
Local RV options range from full-hookup parks in town to lakeside sites. The Tired Traveler RV Park and Wandering Oaks RV Park serve travelers pulling off I-20, while Inez Spring Riverfront Park and Riverside RV Park cater to families wanting water access. Solid Rock RV Park in Eastland is located right on Lake Leon and offers 50 amp electric, sewer, and water hookups.
The area draws anglers, boaters, and road-trippers rather than a heavy tourism crowd, so weekday sites are generally available outside major holidays. Lake Leon offers some of the area's best bass fishing and is most commonly known for its largemouth bass fishing tournaments, while the reservoir also supports excellent populations of channel catfish, sunfish, and white bass.
Things to do near Cisco
Fishing anchors most trips. Anglers at Lake Leon can fish from the shore or from their boats, with access to boat docks, rocky shore areas, forested areas, aquatic vegetation, and fallen brush, which are popular spots for catfish to hide. The dam itself has a concrete boat ramp, and a Texas fishing license is required for anyone over the state age threshold.
Beyond fishing, Texas campers are able to swim, ski, wakeboard, and boat on the lake in warmer months. Eastland Lake is located northwest of downtown Eastland on FM 3101, with one gravel boat launch area near the bridge and several angler access points, and at 100 acres it supports a variety of good sport fish populations, including largemouth bass, crappie, catfish, and white bass. Inez Spring Riverfront Park offers direct access to the Leon River for kayaking and shore fishing.
Historic downtown Cisco, the restored Mobley Hotel, and the ruins of the old Lake Cisco concrete swimming pool and WPA-era stone structures give families non-water options on hot afternoons or rainy days.

Peak RV season runs from mid-spring through early fall. Summers are hot and humid and winters are short, cold, and windy, with the temperature typically varying from 35°F to 95°F over the year. July and August regularly push into the mid-90s, which shifts most outdoor activity to early morning and evening. Weekends around Memorial Day, Independence Day, and Labor Day fill fastest at lakefront parks.
Spring is the sweet spot for weather and fishing, though it also brings the region's peak thunderstorm and tornado risk. The month of May experiences the highest amount of precipitation, with an average value of 94 mm or 3.7 inch, and severe weather watches are common from April through May. Fire bans and burn restrictions are also issued periodically during dry stretches.
Fall offers mild days, cooler nights, and thinner crowds, making it a good window for longer stays. Winter camping is possible for self-contained rigs, but overnight lows can drop below freezing and some seasonal amenities such as pools close after Labor Day.
How to book a site
Most RV parks around Cisco are privately operated and take reservations directly by phone or through their own websites rather than through a central system like Recreation.gov. Booking two to four weeks ahead is typically sufficient outside holiday weekends, when a longer lead time is safer for lakefront sites.
Inez Spring Riverfront Park lists availability on its own site and takes phone bookings. Solid Rock RV Park, Riverside RV Park, Wandering Oaks RV Park, and The Tired Traveler RV Park each manage their own calendars, so confirm rig length, slide clearance, and hookup amps when reserving.
Lake Leon has two public boat ramps with camping areas, and four private camping and recreational areas, so travelers should confirm whether a specific site is public-agency or privately managed before assuming walk-up availability.
What to expect on arrival
Expect a rural, working-Texas feel rather than a resort atmosphere. In-town parks off I-20 offer paved or gravel pads, 30 and 50 amp service, water, sewer, Wi-Fi of varying reliability, and quick access to fuel and groceries. Lakefront sites tend to be more spread out with tree cover and gravel roads that can rut after heavy rain.
Cell service is generally usable on major carriers near I-20 and thins out on back roads toward Lake Leon. Bring insect repellent for warm months, and plan for chiggers, ticks, and the occasional snake in tall grass near the water.
Skies in Eastland County are darker than around major Texas metros, so a flashlight is useful at night and stargazing is a genuine draw on clear evenings.

Frequently asked questions about campgrounds near Cisco, TX
How much does it cost to rent an RV in Cisco, TX?
RV rental in Cisco is affordable compared to Texas metros like Dallas or Austin. Most travel trailers start around $80 to $130 per night, Class C motorhomes typically range from $150 to $250 per night, and larger Class A coaches or fifth wheels run $250 to $400 nightly in peak season. To find a cheap RV rental in Cisco, book mid-week, target shoulder months like March or October, and look for hosts offering weekly discounts. Cisco sits right off Interstate 20, and many local hosts price below the DFW market. Pair that with delivery to a nearby lake campground for excellent trip value.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Cisco%2C%20TexasWhat license do I need to rent an RV in Cisco, Texas?
Great news: a regular Class C driver's license, the standard license most Texans and visitors already carry, is all you need to rent an RV in Cisco. The Texas Department of Public Safety only requires a non-commercial Class A or B license for personal RVs over 26,000 pounds gross vehicle weight rating, which is well above what almost every rental on RVezy weighs. No commercial driver's license (CDL) is required for personal recreational use. You must be 25 or older to book on RVezy, and ID verification happens right inside the platform. International visitors are welcome too, just bring an International Driving Permit (IDP) alongside your home license. From there, your Cisco RV trip is ready to roll.
dps.texas.gov/section/driver-license/classes-driver-licensesWhat protection and roadside assistance come with my Cisco RV rental?
Every booking on RVezy includes a renter protection plan plus 24/7 roadside assistance, so you can travel around Cisco knowing help is one phone call away. The protection plan covers physical damage to the RV during your trip, and you choose your coverage level at checkout, not the host. Roadside support handles flat tires, lockouts, jump-starts, and towing, whether you are parked at a Cisco-area lake or driving a rural stretch of US-183 toward Brownwood. Review the coverage tiers carefully at booking so you can match the package to your rig size and the kind of Cisco RV trip you are planning.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat is the cancellation policy when I rent an RV in Cisco?
You can book with confidence. RVezy applies a consistent cancellation policy across bookings, so hosts do not set their own rules. There is a short grace period right after booking during which you can cancel for a full refund, and additional refund tiers apply based on how far out from your trip start date you cancel. If a host cancels, RVezy refunds the guest or provides travel credit. The most current terms are shown in your booking confirmation and the RVezy Help Center, so locking in your Cisco RV rental early is low risk and lets you secure a prime lake weekend.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037736674-Understanding-the-cancellation-policy-for-guestsCan I bring my dog on a Cisco RV rental?
Yes, and Cisco is a great place to road-trip with your pup. Many hosts list pet-friendly RV rentals in Cisco, and the easiest way to find one is to use the Pet-Friendly filter on RVezy before browsing. Some hosts charge a small pet cleaning fee, which is shown upfront on the listing. Once you arrive, dogs are welcome on-leash at Texas state parks like Possum Kingdom and Lake Brownwood, and at most public lake areas in the region. Pack a tie-out stake and a collapsible water bowl for hot afternoons, since Cisco summer highs regularly hit the mid-90s.
tpwd.texas.gov/state-parks/park-information/petsCan the RV be delivered to my campsite in Cisco?
Yes, RV delivery in Cisco is one of the most popular options on RVezy and a great choice if it is your first time renting an RV. Many local hosts will deliver the rig directly to a Cisco-area campground or a private property along Interstate 20, then level it, hook up water and power, and walk you through every system before they leave. Filter by Delivery on RVezy and message the host to confirm the destination and fee, which is usually based on round-trip mileage. Delivery is ideal for towable travel trailers and fifth wheels, since you skip the towing learning curve and start your Cisco RV trip already set up at the campsite.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Cisco%2C%20TexasHow far can I drive on an RV rental from Cisco, and what about mileage limits?
Cisco sits on Interstate 20, making it an ideal launchpad for a Texas RV road trip. Most listings include 100 to 150 free miles per day, with extra miles available at roughly $0.35 to $0.50 each, and some hosts offer unlimited mileage packages. Easy distances from Cisco include Abilene (about 50 miles west), Fort Worth (about 110 miles east), Possum Kingdom Lake (about 55 miles north), Lake Brownwood State Park (about 65 miles south), and Mineral Wells (about 70 miles east). If you are planning a longer RV road trip toward Big Bend or the Hill Country, message the host before booking to discuss a higher mileage cap. RVezy shows each host's mileage policy clearly on the listing.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/categories/360002339654-Booking-an-RVWhere are the best campgrounds near Cisco, TX for an RV?
You have great options within a short drive. Lake Cisco sits just north of downtown and offers shoreline camping with access to the historic Old Zoo trails. Possum Kingdom State Park, about 55 miles north, has more than 100 sites with water and electric hookups, lakeside views, and famously clear blue water for swimming and fishing. Lake Brownwood State Park to the south is another favorite, with full-hookup sites set among pecan trees. Lake Leon, a short drive east, also offers RV camping along its shoreline. Book Texas state parks through Texas Parks and Wildlife as early as you can, since waterfront sites disappear fast.
tpwd.texas.gov/state-parks/possum-kingdom/fees-facilities/campsitesWhen is the best time to take an RV trip in Cisco, TX?
The sweet spot for RV camping in Cisco is mid-March through May and again from late September through early November, when daytime highs sit comfortably in the 70s and low 80s and overnight lows are perfect for sleeping with the windows open. Summer (June to August) gets hot fast, with highs near 95 degrees Fahrenheit and occasional days topping 100, so plan for early-morning hikes and an RV with strong air conditioning. Winters are short and mild, with January averaging around 46 degrees, making it a quiet, low-cost shoulder season. Pro tip: April is peak wildflower season in this part of Central Texas, and bluebonnets pop up along the back roads around Eastland County, making it the most photogenic time for a Cisco RV trip.
weather.gov/fwd/I've never driven an RV before. Will I be okay starting in Cisco?
You'll do great, and Cisco is honestly one of the easier places in Texas to learn. The roads around town are wide and rural, Interstate 20 is straight and flat, and traffic is light compared to Dallas or Austin. Every RVezy host gives you a hands-on walkthrough at pickup covering generator, slide-outs, water systems, dumping, and driving tips, so you're never left guessing. If a motorhome still feels intimidating, choose a travel trailer with delivery, so the rig is already parked and set up when you arrive. Pro tip for first time renting an RV: do a slow loop around the parking lot of the Cisco Walmart on Conrad Hilton Avenue right after pickup to get a feel for braking distance and mirror sightlines before hitting the highway.
txdot.gov/safety/driving-laws.htmlWhat happens if something goes wrong with the RV during my trip?
Help is always one call away. Every Cisco RV rental on RVezy comes with 24/7 roadside assistance built into the protection package, covering tire changes, towing, lockouts, jump-starts, and fuel delivery, whether you're sitting on the shoulder of US-183 or parked deep in Possum Kingdom State Park. Your host is also your first line of support and usually responds within minutes via the RVezy in-app messenger for quick questions about the awning, generator, or water pump. For anything bigger, RVezy customer support is available before, during, and after the trip. Pro tip: snap photos of the dash, mileage, and any pre-existing scuffs at pickup, so any future conversation about damage is fast and easy.
dps.texas.gov/section/highway-patrolCan I take my Cisco RV rental on a road trip across state lines or to Mexico?
Cross-state RV road trips from Cisco are popular, since you sit a short drive from New Mexico, Oklahoma, Louisiana, and Arkansas. Many guests run Interstate 20 east to Shreveport (about 240 miles) or west through Abilene toward Carlsbad Caverns (about 350 miles) without issue. Travel into Mexico is not permitted on RVezy rentals because the protection plan and roadside coverage do not extend across that border. Trips into Canada may be possible on certain listings, but only with explicit host approval, so message before booking. A great regional option is Cisco to Palo Duro Canyon State Park, about 280 miles northwest, often called the Grand Canyon of Texas.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validityHow much should I budget for fuel on my Cisco RV trip?
Fuel is usually the second-biggest line item after the rental itself, but it's easy to plan for. Expect 7 to 10 miles per gallon on a Class C motorhome, 6 to 8 MPG on a Class A, and 12 to 15 MPG for a truck pulling a small travel trailer. Texas gas prices are typically among the lowest in the country, and several stations right off Cisco's I-20 Exit 332 (including the Pilot and Love's truck stops nearby) consistently sit under the national average. For a typical 300-mile weekend loop to Possum Kingdom Lake and back, budget roughly $90 to $140 in fuel. Pro tip: use the GasBuddy app and fill up in Cisco or Eastland before driving deeper into the countryside, where prices climb.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book campgrounds near Cisco?
For Texas state parks, book as early as possible. Texas Parks and Wildlife opens campsite reservations up to five months in advance, and prime spring and summer weekends at Possum Kingdom State Park and Lake Brownwood State Park can sell out within hours of release. Private parks around Cisco are typically more flexible and bookable a few weeks out, though holiday weekends still fill quickly. Set a calendar reminder for exactly five months before your trip date and log in to the Texas State Parks reservation site at 8 a.m. Central to grab the best lakefront site near Cisco.
texasstateparks.reserveamerica.com/What are local driving conditions like around Cisco, TX?
Driving an RV around Cisco is refreshingly stress-free. Interstate 20 runs straight through town with wide lanes, generous shoulders, and only light truck traffic outside rush hours. State highways like US-183 and TX-6 are mostly two-lane rural roads with rolling Cross Timbers terrain, gentle grades, and minimal congestion. Watch for occasional spring thunderstorms with high winds (mid-April through May), pop-up summer storms, and rare winter ice events. Deer are common at dusk on county roads, so slow down after sunset. Pro tip: avoid driving a tall Class A or fifth wheel during severe weather watches in Tornado Alley, and instead pull off at a sturdy truck stop until the storm clears. Otherwise, Cisco offers some of the easiest RV driving in all of Texas.
drivetexas.org/What amenities can I expect at campgrounds around Cisco?
Cisco-area campgrounds are well-equipped for RVers. Lake Cisco offers shoreline camping just north of town with access to hiking trails near the historic Old Zoo. Possum Kingdom State Park has water and electric sites, dump stations, potable water fill stations, a park store, a fish cleaning station, and clean restrooms with showers. Lake Brownwood State Park offers full-hookup and water and electric sites along with a swim beach and boat ramps. Confirm site length and hookup amperage on the official campground site map before booking, especially if you are driving a 35-foot-plus motorhome.
tpwd.texas.gov/state-parks/possum-kingdom/fees-facilitiesWhat's included inside a typical RV rental in Cisco?
Cisco RV rentals are typically well-equipped. Most motorhome rentals include a full kitchen with fridge, freezer, stove, microwave, and sink, a bathroom with toilet and shower, sleeping for 4 to 8 people, climate control with air conditioning and furnace, fresh, gray, and black water tanks, and seatbelted travel seating. Many include a generator for boondocking, an outdoor awning, and a Bluetooth stereo. Campervan rental Cisco options (Class B) are smaller but include the essentials. Check the listing's amenities list and message the host to confirm which kitchen items, bedding, and outdoor gear are included, so you only pack what is missing.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/categories/360002339654-Booking-an-RVWhat add-ons and pickup options should I know about for a motorhome rental Cisco?
Cisco hosts offer plenty of optional extras to make your trip easier. Common add-ons include linen and towel packages, camp kitchen kits, outdoor chairs and tables, bike racks, generators, and propane top-offs. Pickup is usually at the host's home in or near Cisco, often within a few minutes of I-20, and the orientation walkthrough typically takes 30 to 60 minutes. Many hosts offer delivery to nearby lakes or to your private property for a per-mile fee. Mileage policies vary by listing, with some including 100 free miles per day and others offering unlimited mileage, great for a longer RV road trip from Cisco. Bundle delivery, linens, and a camp kitchen at booking and you will arrive to a fully set-up rig.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Cisco%2C%20TexasHow does payment and the security deposit work on RVezy in Cisco?
Payment is handled fully through the RVezy platform, so you never hand cash to a host. When you book your RV rental in Cisco, the booking total is charged to your credit or debit card, and a refundable security deposit is held separately. Deposit amounts vary by rig, typically a few hundred to a couple of thousand dollars, and the hold is released after the trip ends, assuming there is no damage and the RV is returned with the agreed fuel and propane levels. Take a quick walk-around video at pickup and drop-off showing the exterior, tires, awning, interior, and odometer. It takes two minutes and is the best way to avoid any deposit dispute.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksWhat are the best road trip destinations from Cisco, TX by RV?
Cisco's spot on Interstate 20 makes it an excellent base for a Texas RV road trip. Top picks include Possum Kingdom State Park (about 55 miles north, roughly 1 hour) for clear-blue swimming and the famous Hells Gate cliffs; Lake Brownwood State Park (about 65 miles south, roughly 1 hour 15 minutes) for quiet pecan-shaded sites; Abilene (about 50 miles west, roughly 50 minutes) for the Abilene Zoo and Frontier Texas; the Fort Worth Stockyards (about 110 miles east, roughly 1 hour 45 minutes) for live rodeo and BBQ; and Palo Duro Canyon State Park (about 280 miles northwest, roughly 4 hours 30 minutes) for red-rock canyon hiking. A four-night loop hitting Possum Kingdom, Cisco, and Lake Brownwood makes a great family RV trip Cisco itinerary.
