Campgrounds near DeCordova, Texas
DeCordova sits on the southeast shore of Lake Granbury in Hood County, Texas, about six miles from downtown Granbury and roughly an hour southwest of Fort Worth. Lake Granbury is a man-made reservoir built by the Brazos River Authority, formed by the DeCordova Bend Dam, and the reservoir spans more than 8,200 acres within Hood and Parker counties. The area is a straightforward RV destination: flat terrain, easy highway access via US 377 and FM 4, and a mix of full-hookup private parks and primitive public shoreline camping.
RV renters have several options within a short drive. Fall Creek RV Park and 377 RV Park serve travelers looking for hookups and pull-through convenience, while Bennett's RV Ranch and Granbury RV Resort cater to longer stays with resort-style amenities. De Cordova Bend sits on the southeast end of Lake Granbury near the dam, with a boat ramp, fishing pier, and restrooms; camping is free of charge all year and first come first serve, and all campsites are considered primitive as there are no defined campsites and no water and electric at any site.
Most visitors come for the water. Lake Granbury runs long and narrow along the Brazos River channel, which keeps boat traffic spread out and gives shoreline sites steady lake views.
Things to do near DeCordova
Lake Granbury drives the itinerary. Boaters launch onto the lake for open water, swimmers use the designated swim areas, and anglers work the shoreline and open water for bass and catfish. The tailrace area below the dam is a prime spot for catching bass, catfish, and other freshwater species, and shore anglers can fish from the pier at De Cordova Bend without launching a boat.
Granbury's historic square is the main off-water draw, with restored 19th-century buildings, a restored opera house, restaurants, and shops around the courthouse. Families often pair a day on the lake with an evening in town. Golfers have several courses within the DeCordova Bend Estates area, and the Brazos River downstream of the dam offers additional paddling and fishing water when lake winds pick up.

The DeCordova area is a year-round destination, but the shoulder seasons are the most comfortable for RV travel. The best time of year to visit Granbury is March to May mid and October to November mid. Spring brings wildflowers and mild temperatures, though it is also the wettest stretch of the year and severe thunderstorms are common across North Texas from April into early June.
Summer is peak season on the lake. The busiest month for tourism in Granbury is June, followed by May and July, and weekends at both private RV parks and the free BRA shoreline fill quickly. The warmest month is typically August, with an average high of 96°F, while the coldest month is usually January, with average highs near 57°F. Full-hookup sites with 50-amp service and reliable shade become important in July and August.
Fall cools off gradually and opens up availability again. Winters are mild by RV standards, with occasional cold fronts and freezing nights, so RV renters should confirm that water systems and hoses are freeze-protected on overnight stays in January and February.

This was our first time renting a RV. It drove like a truck or van, super easy! They were flexible on picking up as they stated. Our family really enjoyed being able to relax as we drove. We will definitely be renting from them again.

How to book campgrounds near DeCordova
Booking rules split cleanly by operator. Private parks in the area, including Fall Creek RV Park, 377 RV Park, Bennett's RV Ranch, and Granbury RV Resort, take reservations directly through their own websites or by phone. Summer weekends and holiday periods around Memorial Day, Independence Day, and Labor Day book out earliest, so lock in dates several weeks ahead for peak months.
Public camping on Lake Granbury runs on a different system. Overnight camping is available free of charge on a first-come, first served basis for up to 10 days. Camping at a designated BRA public use area or designated RV site shall only be for a maximum period of ten days during a 30-consecutive-day period. Arrive early on weekends to secure a shaded spot.
What to expect on-site
Private RV parks in the DeCordova and Granbury area typically offer level pads, full hookups with 30/50-amp service, Wi-Fi, laundry, and access to the lake or river. Sites tend to be closer together than in state parks, and pet policies, pool access, and clubhouse hours vary by property, so confirm details when booking.
Expectations shift sharply at the free BRA park. All campsites are considered primitive as there are no defined campsites and no water and electric at any site. The campground features an open layout with picnic tables and grills scattered across the grounds, and shade comes at a premium here, with most sites receiving full sun exposure throughout the day. Expect to find this crowded on weekends, with parties going well into the night. Bring leveling blocks, extra fresh water, and a generator plan if renting a larger Class A or C rig.

Texas only requires a Non-Commercial Class A or B license for personal-use RVs with a Gross Vehicle Weight Rating above 26,000 pounds, and the vast majority of rigs listed locally fall well under that. RVezy approved drivers must be 25 or older with a valid license, and identity is verified during booking so there is no extra paperwork at pickup. Visiting from out of state or abroad? Yes, every RVezy booking in DeCordova includes a renter protection plan with 24/7 roadside assistance, so you can head out toward Lake Granbury with real peace of mind. Roadside help covers flats, jump-starts, lockouts, fuel delivery, and towing. Booking is low-risk because RVezy applies its own cancellation policy to every reservation, including a money-back grace period right after you book. Cancellation outcomes depend on how far out you are from your trip start date, and the policy is set by RVezy, not the host, so the experience is consistent across every listing in DeCordova. If your plans shift, message your host early and contact RVezy support, the team can often help rebook or adjust dates. If a host has to cancel on you, RVezy refunds your booking or provides travel credits so your Lake Granbury RV trip stays on track.

From DeCordova you can reach Austin in about 3 hours, Big Bend National Park in about 9 hours, New Orleans in about 8 hours, and Santa Fe in about 11 hours. Class B campervans average 18 to 22 miles per gallon, Class C motorhomes get 8 to 12 mpg, and Class A diesel pushers land around 7 to 10 mpg. For a 300-mile weekend loop through Glen Rose and Fort Worth in a Class C, budget roughly $90 to $130 in fuel. Pickup is usually at the host's home in DeCordova, Pecan Plantation, or Granbury, but many owners offer delivery to your campground or lake house for a per-mile fee. Drop-off windows are typically flexible by 1 to 2 hours, just coordinate through the RVezy chat. Mileage policies vary by host, so check before you book if you plan a longer Texas RV trip. Pro tip, bundling add-ons often unlocks a small discount.
txdmv.gov/motoristsHow does payment and the security deposit work for an RVezy rental in DeCordova?
Payment is straightforward and secure, you pay through the RVezy platform with a credit or debit card, never directly to the host, which keeps everything documented and protected. You will see the nightly rate, cleaning and prep fees, any delivery or mileage charges, and the protection plan you selected itemized at checkout. The security deposit is handled separately from your booking payment as a temporary hold on your card, and it is released after the trip once the host confirms the RV was returned in good shape and within mileage and generator limits. Pro tip, do a quick video walkaround at pickup and drop-off in DeCordova so any pre-existing condition is on the record from the start.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksHow do I handle the Texas summer heat in my DeCordova RV rental?
You can absolutely enjoy a summer RV camping DeCordova trip, you just need a heat-smart plan. July and August highs frequently hit 95 to 100 degrees with heat indexes over 105, so book a rental with rooftop AC (most have at least one unit, larger rigs have two) and confirm shore-power compatibility so you can run AC continuously at full-hookup parks like Bennett's RV Ranch. Park in shade when possible, use reflective windshield covers, and run the generator midday if you are boondocking at De Cordova Bend Park. Schedule lake swims, paddleboarding, and hikes for before 10 a.m. or after 6 p.m. Pro tip, shoulder seasons in April and October feel like Texas at its best and your AC bill stays tiny.
