Campgrounds and RV parks near Earth, TX

The single biggest regional draw is Muleshoe National Wildlife Refuge, roughly 20 miles south of the town of Muleshoe on State Highway 214. Established in 1935, it is the oldest national wildlife refuge in Texas and hosts one of the largest concentrations of lesser sandhill cranes in North America. The refuge has short nature trails, primitive camping, and observation areas at Paul's Lake, White Lake, and Goose Lake. Lubbock, about an hour east, offers the Buddy Holly Center, the National Ranching Heritage Center, and reliable grocery and RV-supply resupply. Farther north, Palo Duro Canyon State Park near Canyon draws RV travelers for hiking, biking, and horseback riding through the second-largest canyon in the United States. Closer in, the flat farm roads around Earth are popular with cyclists, and West Texas sunsets are the reliable evening event at any campsite.

The South Plains around Earth sit in a semi-arid steppe zone. West Texas towns like Muleshoe experience hot summer days and cool summer nights, along with cool to warm winter days and harsh, cold winter nights. Annual rainfall is low, under 18 inches. Wind is a constant factor year round and can affect towing and awning use. Spring brings the most volatile weather. Thunderstorms, hail, and tornado risk peak from April into early June, and the region falls within Tornado Alley. Summer is hot with occasional strong afternoon storms and the highest monthly rainfall of the year. Camping near Muleshoe National Wildlife Refuge puts travelers in prime position to witness one of North America's largest concentrations of lesser sandhill cranes, which begin arriving around the end of September, with numbers peaking between December and mid-February. Expect freezing overnight lows and steady wind during this period.

Earth is a working farm town, not a resort destination. Services are basic: expect a general store, a fuel stop, and limited restaurant hours. Larger grocery runs, propane, and RV parts are easier to handle in Muleshoe, Littlefield, or Lubbock. Campground layouts in this area tend toward open, level gravel sites with full hookups on 30 and 50 amp service. Shade is limited in most parks, so awnings and window covers help in summer. Cell coverage is generally reliable near town and along US 70 and US 84, but drops off on ranch roads. Winds can gust hard in spring and fall, so choose site orientation with the prevailing wind in mind and stow loose gear before leaving the site.
