Campgrounds near Fabens, Texas
Fabens is a small community in El Paso County, roughly 30 miles southeast of El Paso along the Rio Grande and Interstate 10. Its position on I-10 makes it a practical staging point for RV renters heading through far West Texas, whether the trip is a stopover between Big Bend and New Mexico or a base for exploring the greater El Paso area.
The surrounding valley sits at roughly 3,600 feet in elevation and has an arid climate, with hot summers and cool winters. Local RV options range from quiet, orchard-set retreats to standard full-hookup parks close to the interstate. Named parks in the area include HideAway Lakes, Mission RV Park, Mission Trail Motorhome Park and RV Park, El Paso Roadrunner RV Park, and Mountain Hut.
HideAway Lakes sits just outside Fabens near Tornillo and markets itself as a quiet RV campground with fishing at what it describes as the only oxbow lakes in West Texas. The El Paso metro parks add urban conveniences, while Franklin Mountains State Park anchors the region for renters who want a taste of the Chihuahuan Desert.
Things to do near Fabens
Fishing and low-key relaxation define the Fabens side of the valley. HideAway Lakes offers on-site fishing, RV camping, and tent camping in a pecan-orchard setting along the Rio Grande floodplain, with catch-and-cook ponds popular with families.
For hiking and mountain biking, Franklin Mountains State Park is the regional draw. It covers over 26,000 acres and is known for rugged terrain, extensive hiking and mountain biking trails, and scenic vistas. Rock climbers can access established climbs in McKelligon Canyon and routes in the Tom Mays Unit.
Other day trips include the Mission Trail historic churches in San Elizario and Socorro, the Wyler Aerial Tramway area, and El Paso's museums and Mexican-influenced food scene. Guadalupe Mountains National Park and White Sands National Park are both within a half-day drive for renters willing to reposition.

Spring and fall are the strongest windows for RV travel in the Fabens area. Both are typically mild with sunny days and cool nights, which suits desert hiking, biking, and long driving days without heat stress on rigs or pets.
Summer brings genuine heat. Most summer afternoons sit in the 90s Fahrenheit with many climbing even higher, and typically 27 days a year see the temperature peak at 100 degrees Fahrenheit or more. This is also monsoon season, with thunderstorm activity peaking in July and August, so afternoon storms and flash-flood advisories are common in the arroyos and along the Rio Grande valley.
Winters are short and generally mild by day but cold at night. El Paso averages around 42 freezing nights a year, including many nights in December and January, and most of these colder nights hover just below 32 degrees Fahrenheit and are followed by daytime temperatures above freezing. Snow is rare but possible, and Franklin Mountains State Park stays open year-round.
Booking and reservations
Private RV parks in the Fabens and El Paso corridor generally take reservations directly through their websites or by phone. HideAway Lakes describes itself as a peaceful, family-run, reservation-based park, and its site notes that requests are reviewed and approved based on capacity and availability, so plan ahead rather than driving in unannounced.
For public land, Franklin Mountains State Park uses the Texas State Parks reservation system, which accepts bookings up to five months in advance. The park often reaches capacity and highly recommends reservations for both camping and day use, and passes can be reserved online or by calling the customer service center. If you do not check in by noon of the day after your scheduled arrival date, the rest of your reservation will be cancelled.
What to expect on the ground
Expect a desert-valley RV experience: wide skies, dry air, hard-packed sites, and long sightlines to the Franklin and Hueco mountains. Elevation is around 3,600 feet, so nights cool quickly even after hot days, and hookups, dump stations, and fuel are easier to find on the El Paso side of the corridor than in Fabens proper.
Public campsites can be spartan. At Franklin Mountains State Park, the five RV sites in the Tom Mays Unit have no water or electrical hookups, so campers should bring enough water for drinking, cooking, and cleaning and be fully prepared for dry camping.
Cell coverage is generally reliable along I-10 and in metro El Paso but can drop in the mountains. Summer travelers should plan for afternoon thunderstorms, and winter travelers should prepare for freezing overnight lows and occasional wind events.

Frequently asked questions about campgrounds near Fabens, TX
How much does it cost to rent an RV in Fabens, TX?
RV rental in Fabens, TX is surprisingly affordable compared to most U.S. markets, with travel trailers often starting around $80 to $120 per night, campervans from $125 to $175, and larger Class A or Class C motorhomes typically $175 to $300 per night. Because Fabens sits in the El Paso metro area just off I-10, you'll find a broader selection (and better prices) by searching the wider region. For a cheap RV rental in Fabens, book midweek, travel during shoulder seasons like March or October, and look for hosts offering unlimited mileage. Pro tip: filter by Instant Book to lock in the best-priced rigs before snowbird season ramps up.
visitelpaso.com/What license do I need to rent an RV in Fabens, Texas?
Good news: a regular driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in Fabens, Texas. Texas does not require a commercial driver's license (CDL) or any special RV endorsement for personal-use motorhomes or travel trailers under 26,001 pounds, which covers virtually every rig on RVezy. You'll need to be at least 25 years old, and we'll confirm your ID right through the platform during booking, no paperwork trips required. Visiting from abroad? Pick up an International Driving Permit (IDP) from your home country's auto association before you fly in. Most first-timers are pleasantly surprised at how quickly the verification process wraps up.
txdmv.gov/motoristsIs insurance and roadside assistance included with my Fabens RV rental?
Yes, every RV rental in Fabens, TX booked through RVezy includes a renter protection plan plus 24/7 roadside assistance, so you can hit I-10 toward Big Bend or the Guadalupe Mountains with real peace of mind. You choose your protection level (Standard, Special, or Supreme) at checkout, and each plan provides coverage for damage to the RV during your trip. If you get a flat near Hueco Tanks or need a jump in the desert, one call to RVezy support gets help dispatched, day or night. Review each plan's details before booking so you can match the coverage to your comfort level.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat happens if I need to cancel my Fabens RV trip?
Booking is low-risk: RVezy sets the cancellation policy for every reservation (not individual hosts), and there is a grace period right after booking during which you can cancel for a full refund. After that window, your refund amount depends on how far in advance you cancel relative to your trip start date. You will see the exact policy details on the checkout page and in your booking confirmation email. If severe weather such as a West Texas dust storm or flash flood watch affects your trip, contact RVezy support right away, the team is available before, during, and after every trip to help.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037736674-Understanding-the-cancellation-policy-for-guestsCan I bring my dog on a pet-friendly RV rental in Fabens?
Absolutely, pet-friendly RV rental in Fabens is easy to find on RVezy, just tick the Pet-Friendly filter and you'll see rigs whose hosts welcome four-legged co-pilots. Many Fabens-area hosts allow dogs with a small cleaning fee, and the region is genuinely dog-friendly: nearby Ascarate Park in El Paso has shaded walking loops, and Franklin Mountains State Park allows leashed pets on most trails. Bring extra water, since summer pavement in the Chihuahuan Desert can hit 140°F by midday. Pro tip: message the host before booking to mention your dog's size and breed, hosts appreciate the heads-up and often share their favorite local pet-friendly stops.
tpwd.texas.gov/state-parks/franklin-mountainsCan the RV be delivered to my campground or home in Fabens?
Yes, RV delivery in Fabens is offered by many RVezy hosts, and it is hands-down the easiest way to start your trip, especially if you are a first-timer who would rather skip the towing or backing-in part. Your host can drive the RV to your campsite, driveway, or a nearby RV park such as Mission RV Park in El Paso, level it, hook up water and power, and walk you through every system before handing over the keys. Use the Delivery filter when searching to see hosts who offer this service, and check each listing for the delivery fee, which is typically based on distance from the host's location.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037947453-Delivery-options-explainedHow far can I drive on a Fabens RV trip? Are there mileage limits?
You've got plenty of range for a great Fabens RV trip. Most RVezy hosts include 100 to 150 free miles per day, and some offer RV rental with unlimited mileage, perfect for the long desert highways out here. From Fabens you can reach Carlsbad Caverns in about 2.5 hours (150 miles), Guadalupe Mountains National Park in 2 hours (110 miles), White Sands National Park in about 1.5 hours (95 miles), and Big Bend National Park in around 4.5 hours (300 miles). Pro tip: if you're planning a longer loop, message the host before booking to negotiate a mileage package, many will offer a flat-rate add-on that's cheaper than paying per-mile overage.
nps.gov/cave/index.htmWhere can I stay overnight in an RV near Fabens, TX?
You have solid options for RV camping in Fabens and the surrounding El Paso area. Mission RV Park in east El Paso offers full hookups, a pool, and easy I-10 access about 20 minutes from Fabens. American RV Park is another full-service spot with pull-throughs and laundry. For a more scenic stay, Franklin Mountains State Park's Tom Mays Unit has primitive RV sites with sweeping desert views, and Hueco Tanks State Park (about 40 miles north) offers electric sites surrounded by world-famous bouldering. Pro tip: overnight parking at some Walmart and Cracker Barrel locations in the El Paso area is often allowed, but always call the specific store first to confirm, and never park on a highway shoulder near the border.
tpwd.texas.gov/state-parks/hueco-tanksWhen is the best time to visit Fabens for an RV trip?
The sweet spot for RV camping in Fabens is October through April, when daytime highs sit in a comfortable 60 to 80°F range and nights cool off nicely for sleeping. Summer (June through August) regularly tops 100°F in the Chihuahuan Desert, so if you visit then, plan early-morning drives and campgrounds with shaded full hookups for the air conditioning. Spring brings desert wildflowers and is ideal for visiting Big Bend, while winter is mild compared to most of the country, making Fabens a popular snowbird destination. Pro tip: late September is a hidden gem, the monsoon humidity has faded, crowds are thin, and sunset light over the Franklin Mountains is unbeatable.
weather.gov/epz/climateI've never rented an RV before. How does the pickup process work in Fabens?
First time renting an RV? You're in great hands. Every RVezy host provides a hands-on orientation at pickup, walking you through how to operate the generator, slide-outs, water systems, propane, and dump valves before you drive a single mile. They'll answer every question (no matter how basic) and many leave you with a printed cheat sheet or a video link. If you'd rather skip driving altogether, choose a host who offers delivery to your campsite. Pro tip: arrive at pickup with at least 90 minutes to spare, take photos of every system during the walkthrough, and save the host's number, they're your first call if you need a quick refresher mid-trip.
fmcsa.dot.gov/safetyWhat happens if the RV breaks down during my trip?
You are covered. Every Fabens motorhome rental on RVezy includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the renter protection plan, so a flat tire on Highway 90, a dead battery at a Carlsbad pull-out, or a tow back to El Paso is one phone call away. You will also have your host's direct number, and many local owners can troubleshoot minor issues (like a tripped breaker or a finicky water pump) over the phone in minutes. RVezy's support team is available around the clock to coordinate help. Pro tip: cell service is solid along I-10 and US-62/180 toward Carlsbad but spotty in Big Bend, so download offline maps and screenshot your roadside number before heading into remote desert.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailCan I take my Fabens RV rental across state lines or into Mexico?
Yes to most state lines, no to Mexico. An RV road trip from Fabens into New Mexico (just 20 minutes away) or up through the Texas Panhandle is welcomed by most hosts, and popular cross-border-state routes include White Sands, Carlsbad Caverns, and the Gila National Forest. Travel into Mexico is not permitted on any RVezy rental because the protection package and roadside coverage do not extend across the international border, which sits literally minutes from Fabens. If you want to visit Juárez, park the RV at your campground and use a local shuttle or rideshare. Pro tip: confirm your planned route with the host when you message them so they can flag any vehicle-specific considerations.
cbp.gov/travel/us-citizens/know-before-you-goWhat kind of fuel economy and gas costs should I budget for?
Budgeting for a Fabens RV trip is straightforward. Campervans typically get 16 to 20 miles per gallon (MPG), Class C motorhomes 8 to 12 MPG, and Class A rigs 6 to 10 MPG. Travel trailers depend on your tow vehicle but expect 10 to 14 MPG combined. Texas consistently has some of the cheapest gas in the country, and Fabens-area stations along I-10 often run 30 to 60 cents below the national average. For a typical week-long loop of 700 to 900 miles, plan on $200 to $400 in fuel. Pro tip: fill up in Fabens or El Paso before heading into New Mexico, where prices jump, and use the GasBuddy app to spot the cheapest pumps along your route.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book campgrounds near Fabens?
For most Fabens-area campgrounds, two to four weeks ahead is plenty, but the best campgrounds near Fabens (especially state parks) fill faster during peak snowbird season. Texas State Parks like Franklin Mountains and Hueco Tanks open reservations five months in advance through the Texas Parks and Wildlife reservation system, and Hueco Tanks in particular books up fast on weekends because of the daily visitor cap. National parks like Carlsbad Caverns and Guadalupe Mountains use Recreation.gov with a six-month window. Private RV parks like Mission RV Park usually have same-week availability outside winter. Pro tip: if you're targeting a holiday weekend, book the campground first, then your RVezy rig, that's the bottleneck out here, not the RV.
tpwd.texas.gov/state-parks/park-information/reservationsWhat are the driving conditions like around Fabens?
Driving an RV around Fabens is genuinely beginner-friendly: I-10 runs flat and wide right through town, and the surrounding farm roads in the Rio Grande Valley have minimal traffic. The main things to watch for are sudden dust storms (called haboobs) in spring, which can drop visibility to zero in minutes, and afternoon monsoon downpours in July and August that create flash flood risk in arroyos. Crosswinds along I-10 west of Fabens can push high-profile rigs, so reduce speed when gusts pick up. Border Patrol checkpoints on US-62 and I-10 are routine and quick. Pro tip: if you see a dust wall approaching, pull completely off the road, turn off lights, and wait it out, this is the official Texas DOT recommendation.
txdot.gov/safety/severe-weather.htmlWhat amenities do campgrounds near Fabens typically offer?
Campgrounds around Fabens range from full-service resorts to bare-bones desert beauty. Private parks like Mission RV Park and American RV Park offer 30/50-amp electric, water, sewer hookups at every site, plus laundry, pools, and Wi-Fi. Texas State Parks generally have water and electric (no sewer at the site, but a dump station on the way out), restrooms with showers, and picnic shelters. For dumping and freshwater fill, Mission RV Park and the Flying J on I-10 in Anthony both offer dump stations to non-guests for a small fee. Pro tip: in summer, prioritize sites with 50-amp service so you can run two air conditioners simultaneously, your future self will thank you on a 105°F afternoon.
tpwd.texas.gov/state-parks/franklin-mountains/fees-facilitiesWhat's included inside a typical RVezy rental in Fabens?
Fabens motorhome and campervan rentals come ready for the road. Most rigs sleep four to eight people in a combination of queen beds, bunks, and convertible dinettes, and every motorhome and campervan has seatbelted seating for travel. Inside you'll find a full kitchen (fridge, stove, microwave, sink), a bathroom with shower and toilet, climate control with air conditioning and furnace, and typically a TV. Many hosts include a generator for off-grid AC, and some offer Wi-Fi hotspots as an add-on, useful since cell service drops in Big Bend. Listings detail every amenity with photos. Pro tip: in Fabens summers, confirm the AC has been recently serviced when you message the host, it's the single most important system out here.
energy.gov/energysaver/air-conditioningWhat add-ons and extras can I get with my Fabens RV rental?
RVezy hosts in the Fabens and El Paso area commonly offer add-ons that make your trip smoother: kitchen kits ($30 to $75), bedding and linen packages ($25 to $50 per bed), camping chairs and outdoor mats ($15 to $30), portable grills, generators, bike racks, and Wi-Fi hotspots. Pickup and dropoff are usually at the host's location, but delivery to campgrounds, Fort Bliss, or El Paso International Airport is available from many hosts for a per-mile or flat fee. Mileage policies vary by listing, with most including 100 to 150 free miles per day and overage at $0.30 to $0.45 per mile. Pro tip: bundle add-ons when booking to save versus piecing them together later, and ask the host about a generator package if you're heading to Big Bend.
nps.gov/bibe/planyourvisit/index.htmHow does payment and the security deposit work?
Payment is simple and secure: you pay through RVezy at the time of booking with a credit or debit card. A refundable security deposit (typically several hundred to a couple thousand dollars depending on the rig) is pre-authorized on your card a few days before pickup, not actually charged unless there is an issue. Once the RV is returned in the same condition, the hold is released, usually within a few business days depending on your bank. To avoid any deposit issues on your rent an RV in Fabens experience, take dated photos and a short video at pickup and dropoff, follow the host's fuel and dump-tank instructions, and stay within your mileage allotment. Pro tip: use a credit card (not debit) for the deposit so the hold does not tie up your spending money mid-trip.
