Campgrounds and RV parks near Farwell, TX

Most sightseeing happens across the line in Clovis. The Norman Petty Recording Studio tours and the Blackwater Draw Archaeological Site anchor the local itinerary, with Blackwater Draw of particular interest to families given its role in early North American archaeology. For kids and shorter stops, Hillcrest Park in Clovis offers picnic tables, a swimming pool, and a small zoo. Downtown Clovis has restored theaters, antique shops, and casual restaurants within a compact walkable area. Day trips extend the range. Lubbock, Amarillo, and the Muleshoe National Wildlife Refuge south of Farwell are all within a couple of hours by RV, and Palo Duro Canyon State Park is a reasonable overnight side trip east through the Texas Panhandle.

The Farwell and Clovis area has a semi-arid, mid-latitude steppe climate with hot summers, mild to cool winters, and moderately low rainfall throughout the year. That translates to a long shoulder season and a short, intense summer travel window. Spring and early fall are the most comfortable stretches for RV travel. March, April, May, September, and October see average temperatures in a pleasant range and are well suited to sightseeing and exploring. Spring can bring strong wind and blowing dust, so awnings and slide toppers deserve attention. Summer runs hot with afternoon thunderstorms during the North American monsoon, when most of the yearly rainfall arrives. Winter is quiet, with light occasional snowfall. Nights fall below freezing in winter and cold snaps can freeze hookups, so heated hoses and tank warmers are useful. Most private RV parks in the area stay open year-round, which makes Farwell a viable stop for cross-country winter travelers moving between Texas and the desert Southwest.

Parks in the Farwell and Clovis area are utilitarian rather than scenic. Sites are generally level gravel or concrete pads on open ground, with full hookups, 30 and 50 amp service, and pull-through options that accommodate larger rigs. Amenities typically include laundry, private showers, Wi-Fi, and a shared lounge or clubhouse. Clovis is a railroad hub, so proximity to BNSF tracks varies by park and is worth checking before booking if train noise is a concern. Shade is limited on the Llano Estacado, so plan for sun exposure and wind. Grocery stores, fuel, propane, and RV supplies are all easy to reach within Clovis city limits, and Farwell itself has a small selection of basic services.
