Campgrounds and RV parks near Floydada, TX

The main regional draw is Caprock Canyons State Park near Quitaque, about an hour east of Floydada. The park is known for its scenic canyons, rugged trails, and a bison herd that roams freely within the park boundaries. Wildlife in the park includes bats, gray foxes, roadrunners, bobcats, coyotes, prairie rattlesnakes, collared lizards, and pronghorn antelope. The Caprock Canyons Trailway, a rail-to-trail conversion, adds miles of hiking, biking, and equestrian route outside the main park. Closer to town, Floydada itself hosts the annual Punkin Days festival in October, and Lake Mackenzie sits within a short drive for fishing. Lubbock and Amarillo, both about an hour away, provide museums, restaurants, and supply runs for anything not available locally.

Summers in Floydada are hot and mostly clear, and winters are short, cold, windy, and sometimes snowy. Spring and fall are the most comfortable windows for RV travel, with mild days and cool nights. Spring can bring strong wind and occasional severe thunderstorms typical of the South Plains, so watch forecasts for hail and tornado watches from April into June. The area receives moderate precipitation annually, with a strong seasonal pattern that makes summers wetter and winters the driest time of year. September brings the most rainfall in a typical year, with rain falling roughly 13 days and accumulating around 2.6 inches. Fall temperatures drop quickly after mid-October, and freezes are common by early November. The last spring freeze falls near early April and the first fall freeze near early November, which brackets the reliably frost-free camping season. Winter travelers should expect cold nights, wind, and occasional snow, but private RV parks in Floydada generally stay open year-round.

Expect open, flat terrain with big skies and steady wind rather than shaded forest sites. Most RV parks in and around Floydada are compact roadside operations built for practical overnight stops and longer stays, with full hookups, laundry, and basic bathhouses. WinGen RV Park is big-rig friendly with sewer hookups, on-site laundry, and a pet-friendly policy. At Caprock Canyons, sites are more rustic. Honey Flat Camping Area has water and electric hookups, picnic tables, fire rings, shade shelters, lantern posts, restrooms, hot showers, and a dump station. All roads to the park and inside the park are paved all-weather surfaces, but unpaved roads outside Caprock Canyons can be very muddy and slippery after heavy rain, and driving on them until they dry is not recommended. Cell service is spotty in the canyons.
