Campgrounds near Garrett, Texas
Garrett is a small town in eastern Ellis County, Texas, bordered to the south by Ennis and sitting just off Interstate 45. The town lies about 32 miles south of downtown Dallas, making it an easy staging point for RV travelers moving between the Metroplex and Houston.
Most RV parks in the area cluster around Ennis and the surrounding farmland. Ennis Luxury RV Resort and Rockett RV Ranch sit closest to Garrett itself, while The Range Vintage Trailer Resort, Northside RV Resort, and Dallas Hi Ho RV Park serve travelers wanting quick access to the Dallas suburbs or Bardwell Lake.
The main outdoor draw is Bardwell Lake, a US Army Corps of Engineers reservoir located two miles southwest of Ennis off State Highway 34. Its public campgrounds and open shoreline supplement the private RV options, and the region is best known nationally as the home of the Official Texas Bluebonnet Trail, which peaks around the third week of April.
Things to do near Garrett
Bardwell Lake anchors the recreation options. The lake supports boating, fishing, and hiking, with bass, crappie, and catfish all common catches. Deer, armadillo, rabbits, squirrel, and a range of bird species live in the surrounding parks, and Waxahachie Creek Park is the trailhead for a multi-use trail with over 13 miles of routes for horseback riding, biking, and hiking.
In April, the Ennis Bluebonnet Trails cover more than 40 miles of mapped driving routes through the countryside, sponsored by the Ennis Garden Club. The Bluebonnet Trails Festival brings live music, food, and craft vendors to downtown Ennis in mid-April.
Other nearby stops include the Texas Motorplex drag strip, Big O Speedway dirt-track racing from March through October, historic downtown Ennis, and the Ennis Railroad and Cultural Heritage Museum. The National Polka Festival takes over Ennis every Memorial Day weekend.

Spring is the marquee season. Bluebonnets typically peak around the third week of April, and the Ennis Bluebonnet Trails are officially open with signage and maps from April 1 through April 30. Weekends during peak bloom draw heavy traffic on rural roads, and the Bluebonnet Trails Festival adds crowds downtown. Book RV sites well ahead for April.
Summer is hot and muggy, with August highs commonly in the mid-90s Fahrenheit. Lake use peaks around Memorial Day, Independence Day, and Labor Day, and Corps of Engineers sites at Bardwell fill quickly on holiday weekends. The National Polka Festival takes over Ennis every Memorial Day weekend.
Fall brings the region's wettest single month in October, but daytime temperatures ease into the 70s and 80s and campground pressure lightens. Winter is mild by North American standards, with occasional cold snaps and rare light snow, and it is the quietest season for reservations.

Our experience with Yeehaw rentals and the owner Darren was great. There was a lot of good communication. We understood what needed to be done. He delivered as requested in a timely manner and we were able to meet with him. Do a walk-through of the Trailer and ensure that everything was in good working order. Him and his partner showed us all the different working aspects of the inside of the trailer and the outside I would definitely rent with them again

How to book a campsite
Private RV parks around Garrett and Ennis, including Ennis Luxury RV Resort, Rockett RV Ranch, The Range Vintage Trailer Resort, Northside RV Resort, and Dallas Hi Ho RV Park, take reservations directly through their own websites or by phone. For April travel, contact them several months out; bluebonnet weekends are the tightest window of the year.
Bardwell Lake's Corps of Engineers campgrounds, including Mott, High View, and Waxahachie Creek, are reservation-only and booked through Recreation.gov or by calling 1-877-444-6777. Stays are capped at 14 days within any 30-day period across the lake's parks. Confirm hookup amperage before booking, as 30-amp and 50-amp services are only for matching campers and converters or dog bones are not allowed.
What to expect on your trip
The landscape is Blackland Prairie: gently rolling farmland, pasture, and scattered trees rather than dense forest. Expect flat, easy driving on I-45 and the surrounding farm-to-market roads, and be alert on Bluebonnet Trail routes in April, where cars pull over frequently and farm dogs roam near the roads.
Corps of Engineers parks at Bardwell Lake are grassy and partially forested with a mix of shade and open sites. Entrance stations run 6 a.m. to 10 p.m., swimming pools and inflatables are prohibited, and campfires must stay in grills or fire rings. Firewood should be bought locally to protect area trees.
Cell coverage is generally reliable along I-45 and in Ennis. Groceries, fuel, and RV supplies are easiest to source in Ennis or Waxahachie rather than in Garrett itself.
