Camping near Godley, Texas
Godley sits in Johnson County, roughly 30 miles southwest of Fort Worth and a short drive from Cleburne, Granbury, and Lake Granbury. The area works well as an RV base for exploring North Texas: it offers open prairie, working ranch land, and easy access to state park camping loops south of town. Most private RV parks in the surrounding towns cater to travelers heading to Fort Worth attractions, Texas Motor Speedway, or the lakes along the Brazos River.
Close-in options include Fall Creek RV Park, Gallagher Acres RV Park, 377 RV Park, and Bison Hill Ranch, all reachable on rural highways from Godley. For lake camping, De Cordova Bend Park is managed by the Brazos River Authority and sits on the southeast end of Lake Granbury near the DeCordova Bend Dam.
Cleburne State Park, about 30 minutes southwest of Fort Worth, surrounds the 116-acre spring-fed Cedar Lake and adds a public option with electric and full-hookup sites. Together, these parks give RV renters a mix of full-hookup private stays and lower-cost primitive lake camping within about an hour's drive of the pickup point.
Things to do near Godley
Water is the main draw. Lake Granbury supports fishing, swimming, and no-wake boating, and the tailrace below the DeCordova Bend Dam is a well-known spot for bass and catfish. Cleburne State Park's Cedar Lake allows canoes, kayaks, and paddle boats and prohibits motorized craft, and it holds bass, crappie, and catfish.
On land, Cleburne State Park offers nearly 13 miles of trails for hiking and biking, including the Fossil Ridge Loop. Dinosaur Valley State Park in Glen Rose, about 40 minutes away, preserves dinosaur tracks along the Paluxy River and has more than 20 miles of trails.
Off-park, families head to the Fort Worth Stockyards for the twice-daily longhorn cattle drive, and Granbury's historic square offers shops and restaurants a short drive from the lakeside campgrounds.

North Central Texas has a humid subtropical climate with big seasonal swings. Spring (March through May) and fall (September through November) are the most comfortable stretches for RV camping, with mild days, cool nights, and wildflowers along the trails. Cleburne State Park campsites book up quickly, especially for summer and holiday weekends, so booking at least three months ahead is recommended.
Summer runs hot. The hottest month is August, with an average high of 96°F and average low of 72°F, and shade is limited at open lakefront sites such as De Cordova Bend, so campers often bring awnings or arrive early for a treed spot. Lake swimming and early-morning fishing are the standard summer routines.
Winter is generally mild but includes cold fronts and occasional freezes. Most private RV parks stay open year-round, and Cleburne State Park is open year-round with gates open 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily. Spring storms can bring heavy downpours and severe weather, so RV travelers should monitor forecasts for tornado and flash-flood watches.

We had such a great experience! Todd was wonderful to work with and the camper was super cute and cozy for our big family. We will definitely rent again with Todd.

Todd has the best camper we’ve ever rented. The master has alot of extra space and storage. The kids bunks are full of movies to watch. The extra half bathroom was so nice. Todd was on time with delivery.

How to book a site
Cleburne State Park uses the Texas State Parks reservation system through Texas Parks and Wildlife. Individual campsite reservations open five months in advance, while the group campsite can be booked up to 12 months in advance. The park often reaches capacity in spring and fall, so booking early is recommended for weekends. A daily entrance fee applies in addition to the site fee, and holders of the Texas State Park Pass enter free.
Brazos River Authority parks on Lake Granbury, including De Cordova Bend, operate first-come, first-served with no reservations. Overnight camping is free of charge for up to 10 days during a 30-consecutive-day period at the same reservoir.
Private parks such as Fall Creek RV Park, Gallagher Acres RV Park, 377 RV Park, and Bison Hill Ranch are booked directly with the operator or through the RV rental platform.
What to expect on the ground
Private parks around Godley tend to be small, level, and rural, with full hookups, gravel or paved pads, and open sky rather than dense tree cover. Cell coverage is generally reliable near town but can drop off inside the state park, where visitors are advised to download maps in advance.
At Cleburne State Park, all sites include water and electricity in 20/30 or 50 amp options, with 27 sites offering full hookups including sewer. Generator use is not allowed at any time in the park unless authorized by the Park Superintendent. Quiet hours are enforced, pets must be leashed, and firewood should be purchased on site or locally to prevent moving invasive species.
De Cordova Bend camping is primitive with no defined campsites and no water or electric: picnic tables, grills, restrooms, and a boat ramp are provided. Bring water, a generator or solar, and shade.

Frequently asked questions about campgrounds near Godley, TX
How much does it cost to rent an RV in Godley, TX?
An RV rental in Godley, TX is one of the more affordable ways to explore North Texas. On RVezy you will typically find travel trailers from about $90 to $175 per night, Class C motorhomes from $150 to $250, and larger Class A coaches from $200 to $350 plus per night. Weekday stays from Sunday through Thursday are noticeably cheaper than Texas Motor Speedway race weekends. Pro tip: filter by Instant Book and stack a weekly discount (many Godley hosts offer 10 to 15 percent off seven plus nights) to keep your trip well under budget.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Godley%2C%20TexasWhat license do I need to rent an RV in Godley, Texas?
Great news for first-time renters: a regular Class C driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in Godley and drive virtually every motorhome or travel trailer on RVezy. Texas only requires a non-commercial Class A or B license for personal RVs over 26,000 pounds, and the vast majority of rentals in the Godley and Johnson County area come in well under that. You must be 25 or older to book on RVezy, and your ID is verified through the platform during checkout. Visiting from abroad? Bring your home country license plus an International Driving Permit (IDP) and you're set to roll.
dps.texas.gov/section/driver-license/requirementsIs RV rental insurance and roadside help included in Godley?
Yes, every RVezy booking in Godley includes a renter protection plan plus 24/7 roadside assistance, so you can hit the road with real peace of mind. The protection plan covers most damage to the RV during your trip, and you choose your coverage level (not the host) during checkout, so you can dial up extra protection for a Texas Motor Speedway weekend or a longer Hill Country loop. If a tire blows on Highway 171 or you need a jump at your campsite, one call to the 24/7 roadside line gets help dispatched. It removes most of the financial worry for first-time renters.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat is the cancellation policy if my Godley RV trip plans change?
Booking is low-risk: RVezy sets a clear cancellation policy on every reservation, including a money-back grace period right after you book so you can lock in your dates with confidence. The exact refund depends on how far out you cancel relative to your trip start date. Cancellation terms are managed by RVezy, not the individual host, so the rules are consistent across every listing. If a host ever cancels on you, RVezy will refund you or provide travel credits. Pro tip: book early for spring race weekends at Texas Motor Speedway, then relax knowing the grace period and 24/7 support have your back.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037736674-Understanding-the-cancellation-policy-for-guestsCan I bring my dog on a pet-friendly RV rental in Godley?
Absolutely, dogs are welcome on tons of Godley trips. Use the Pet-Friendly filter on RVezy to instantly see pet-friendly RV rental Godley listings, and you'll find everything from cozy campervans to big bunkhouse travel trailers that welcome pups. Once you land, you've got great options nearby: Cleburne State Park (about 15 miles south) allows leashed pets on all trails and at campsites, and Dinosaur Valley State Park in Glen Rose is a favorite for dogs who love river wading. Pro tip: message the host before booking to confirm any pet fee (usually $25 to $75 per stay) and bring a long lead, since Texas summer pavement gets hot fast.
tpwd.texas.gov/state-parks/cleburneCan the RV be delivered to my campsite in Godley?
Yes, RV delivery in Godley is one of the most popular ways to book, especially if it is your first time renting an RV. Many Godley and Johnson County hosts will tow the trailer or drive the motorhome straight to your campsite, set up the awning, level it, hook up power and water, and walk you through every system before they leave. Common drop spots include Cleburne State Park and Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park in Burleson. Pro tip: filter by Delivery on RVezy and message the host with your campsite number and arrival window so they can plan the easiest route off Highway 171.
tpwd.texas.gov/state-parks/cleburneHow far can I drive on a Godley RV rental and are there mileage limits?
You've got real freedom to roam. Most Godley hosts include 100 to 150 free miles per night, with additional miles available for around $0.35 to $0.50 each, and a growing number of listings offer RV rental with unlimited mileage, perfect for a longer RV road trip from Godley. From Godley you can reach Fort Worth Stockyards in about 35 minutes (30 miles), Waco and Magnolia Market in 90 minutes (85 miles), Austin in roughly 3 hours (190 miles), and the Gulf Coast at Galveston in about 5 hours (305 miles). Pro tip: if you're planning Big Bend or Padre Island, filter specifically for unlimited mileage to skip the math entirely.
txdot.gov/about/programs/travel.htmlWhere are the best campgrounds near Godley, TX for RV camping?
You are spoiled for choice. Some of the best campgrounds near Godley include Cleburne State Park about 15 miles south with shaded sites on Cedar Lake, Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park in Burleson (a family favorite with pools and activities), Loyd Park on Joe Pool Lake about 40 minutes northeast, and Cedar Hill State Park toward Dallas with hundreds of sites and miles of trails. For RV camping near Godley with hookups and a pool, Jellystone is a winner with kids. Pro tip: state park sites book through the Texas Parks and Wildlife reservation system up to five months in advance and weekends fill fast.
tpwd.texas.gov/state-parks/cleburneWhen is the best time of year to take an RV trip in Godley?
Spring and fall are the sweet spots for a Godley RV trip. Mid-March through May brings highs in the 70s and 80s, wildflowers (including Texas bluebonnets) along Farm Road 917, and comfortable nights perfect for campfires. Late September through early November offers highs in the 70s to low 80s, fewer crowds, and Texas Motor Speedway fall race events nearby. Summers (June through August) are hot, with August highs typically in the mid 90s Fahrenheit and heat index well over 100, so book a rental with strong air conditioning and a 30 or 50 amp shore power site. Winters are mild with January highs in the upper 50s, making a Godley RV trip a year-round option.
forecast.weather.gov/zipcity.php?inputstring=Godley%2CTXI've never driven an RV before. Will I be okay renting in Godley?
Yes, you'll be fine, and first time renting an RV in Godley is actually one of the easier places to start. The roads around Godley are wide, flat, and rural (think Highway 171 and FM 917), with very little tight urban driving until you get up toward Fort Worth or Dallas. Every RVezy host gives you a hands-on walkthrough at pickup: water systems, propane, slide-outs, awning, and dump procedure. You'll have their phone number for the whole trip plus 24/7 RVezy support. Pro tip: ask your host for a 10-minute parking-lot practice loop before you leave, and choose a Class C motorhome or a smaller travel trailer for your first trip; they drive much more like a large truck than a bus.
txdot.gov/safety/driving-laws.htmlWhat happens if I have a breakdown or issue during my Godley RV trip?
You are covered around the clock. Every RVezy booking includes 24/7 roadside assistance, so a flat tire on I-35W, a dead battery at Cleburne State Park, or a tow back from Dinosaur Valley is one phone call away. Common issues like a tripped breaker, a stuck slide, or a propane question are usually solved in minutes by messaging your host directly, since they know their RV inside and out. For anything bigger, the RVezy support team is reachable before, during, and after your trip. Pro tip: snap a photo of the RV's VIN, license plate, and propane tank certification date at pickup so any roadside dispatch can help you faster.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailCan I take my Godley RV rental across state lines or into Mexico?
Cross-state travel is welcome on most bookings. From Godley you can typically drive your RVezy rental across the continental US, with popular routes including Oklahoma's Lake Texoma (about 2.5 hours north), New Mexico's Carlsbad Caverns (about 9 hours west), and Louisiana's Cajun country (about 5 hours east). Travel into Mexico is not permitted because the RVezy protection plan and insurance do not extend across the border. If you want to drive into Canada, message the host before booking; some allow it with extra paperwork, but many do not. Pro tip: share your planned route with your host at booking so they can confirm mileage allowance and any add-ons.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validityWhat should I budget for fuel on a Godley RV trip?
Fuel is one of the friendlier line items in Texas. Gas prices around Godley typically run a bit below the US average, often $2.70 to $3.20 per gallon at the Buc-ee's and Love's along I-35W in Alvarado and Burleson. Expect roughly 8 to 10 miles per gallon (MPG) for a Class A, 10 to 14 MPG for a Class C, 18 to 22 MPG for a campervan, and 12 to 16 MPG for a truck pulling a travel trailer. A weekend Godley to Waco round trip (about 170 miles) in a Class C costs roughly $45 to $60 in fuel. Pro tip: fill up at the giant Buc-ee's in Alvarado just 15 minutes from Godley, the diesel pumps are RV-friendly and the brisket sandwiches are worth the stop.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book a campground near Godley?
Plan ahead and you'll get your pick. Texas State Parks open reservations exactly 5 months in advance at 8 a.m. Central through the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department system, and Cleburne State Park sites on Cedar Lake disappear within hours for spring and fall weekends. Private parks like North Texas Jellystone and Mockingbird Hill usually have availability 2 to 4 weeks out for weekdays, but holiday weekends (Memorial Day, July 4, Labor Day) need 2 to 3 months lead time. Pro tip: set a free notification alert in the Texas State Parks reservation system; cancellations are frequent in the 5 to 10 days before arrival because of the $10 cancellation fee.
tpwd.texas.gov/state-parks/park-reservation-information/faqWhat are local driving conditions like around Godley?
Driving around Godley is genuinely easy for RVs. The town sits on flat North Texas prairie at the crossroads of Highway 171 and FM 917, with wide shoulders, light traffic, and no mountain grades. Watch for two things: spring severe weather (March through May can bring thunderstorms, hail, and the occasional tornado warning, so check the National Weather Service Fort Worth office before driving) and rush hour on I-35W between Burleson and Fort Worth from 7 to 9 a.m. and 4 to 6 p.m. Summer heat can stress tires, so check pressure every morning. Pro tip: if you're nervous about Dallas-Fort Worth metro driving, book delivery from a Godley host and skip the freeways entirely.
weather.gov/fwd/What amenities will I find at Godley-area campgrounds?
You will be comfortable. Most RV parks within 20 miles of Godley offer full hookups with 30 and 50 amp electric, fresh water, and sewer right at the site, plus dump stations, hot showers, laundry, and Wi-Fi at parks like Cowtown RV Park and Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park in Burleson. Cleburne State Park has water and electric sites plus a centralized dump station and potable water fill near the entrance. Pro tip: ask your host to top off the fresh water tank before delivery so you have a buffer if the campground spigot is a long hose run from your pad.
tpwd.texas.gov/state-parks/cleburne/fees-facilitiesWhat's actually inside a typical RV rental in Godley?
More than you'd think. A standard Godley motorhome rental or campervan rental Godley booking comes ready to camp: a queen or king bed, bunks or convertible dinette for kids, a full kitchen (fridge, stove, microwave, sink), a wet or dry bathroom with toilet and shower, roof air conditioning (a must in Texas), a furnace, fresh and waste water tanks, and seatbelts for travel. Most also include a TV, Bluetooth stereo, outdoor awning, and camp chairs. Many Godley hosts add a generator or solar setup for boondocking, and some include Wi-Fi hotspots. Pro tip: filter by Sleeps count and confirm seatbelt count in the listing description, especially for family RV trip Godley plans with kids in car seats.
nhtsa.gov/road-safety/recreational-vehiclesWhat add-ons and pickup options do Godley hosts offer?
Lots of helpful extras make life easier. Common Godley host add-ons include linen and towel packages ($25 to $75), kitchen kits, camp chairs, portable grills, generators ($25 to $50 per day), bike racks, and propane refills. Pickup is usually at the host's home in Godley, Joshua, Cleburne, or Burleson, with a 30 to 60 minute orientation included. Many hosts also offer delivery within 50 to 100 miles for a flat or per-mile fee, perfect if you'd rather meet the RV at Cleburne State Park or Dinosaur Valley. Pro tip: book the linen package on your first trip; it saves a Walmart run on arrival day and most Godley hosts launder them between every guest.
txdmv.gov/motorists/buying-or-selling-a-vehicle/recreational-vehiclesHow do payment and the security deposit work on RVezy?
Payment is simple and secure: you pay through RVezy with a credit or debit card, never directly to the host. The security deposit is separate from your booking payment and is a temporary hold (typically a few hundred to a couple thousand dollars depending on the RV class), authorized on your card before pickup and released after return assuming no damage. To keep your deposit smooth: take dated photos of the RV interior and exterior at pickup and dropoff, return with the same fuel and propane levels, and dump the tanks if your host requires it. Pro tip: use a credit card (not debit) so the deposit hold does not tie up your checking balance during your trip.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksWhat are the best road trip destinations from Godley?
Godley is a brilliant launch pad. Top RV road trip from Godley picks include Dinosaur Valley State Park in Glen Rose (40 miles, 45 minutes) where you can actually walk in dinosaur footprints along the Paluxy River; Fort Worth Stockyards (30 miles, 35 minutes) for daily cattle drives and honky-tonks; Waco and Magnolia Silos (85 miles, 90 minutes); Texas Hill Country and Fredericksburg (220 miles, 4 hours) for wineries and peach stands; and Big Bend National Park (530 miles, 8 hours) for the ultimate Texas adventure. Local insider tip: time your Glen Rose trip for a Friday night at Big Rocks Park, where locals swim in the Paluxy and the limestone bluffs glow gold at sunset. Book your Godley RV early and start mapping the route.
