Campgrounds near Hideaway, Texas
Hideaway sits in Smith County in the Piney Woods of East Texas, just north of Tyler and a short drive from Lindale and Interstate 20. The area works well as a base for RV travelers because it combines dense pine forest, small spring-fed lakes, and easy highway access between Dallas and Shreveport.
Most RV options within a short drive fall into two groups: private full-hookup resorts near I-20 and Highway 69, and a public state park with reservable sites. Three Oaks RV Community sits in the rural countryside near Lindale, offering a quiet setting off the main roads with generously spaced sites that fit RVs of all sizes. Patriot Escapes RV Resort and Field of Dreams RV Resort are also within easy reach, with Field of Dreams operating as a gated community near Interstate 20 outside Lindale.
Closer to central Tyler, Tyler Oaks RV Resort sits along the U.S. Highway 69 corridor, a convenient staging point for trips east into Louisiana or west toward First Monday in Canton. We RV Champions of Tyler rounds out the nearby options for travelers who want a hardwood-shaded lot within minutes of downtown Tyler.
Things to do near Hideaway
Tyler State Park is the main outdoor draw: visitors can boat, fish, swim in the lake, hike, mountain bike, picnic, bird watch, and study nature across more than 13 miles of trails through the Pineywoods. Anglers try for crappie, perch, catfish, or bass from the park's fishing pier or boat ramp.
In town, the Tyler Rose Garden, the Caldwell Zoo, and the Discovery Science Place give families rainy-day options. Timing a visit for the Azalea Trail in March or the Rose Festival in October adds a seasonal draw, and First Monday Trade Days in nearby Canton is a regional highlight.
For day trips, Lake Palestine, Lake Tyler, and the Texas State Railroad in Rusk are all within about an hour, and Dallas is roughly two hours west by I-20.

Spring and fall are the sweet spot for RV travel in East Texas. Daytime highs in March through May sit in the 70s and 80s Fahrenheit, wildflowers and dogwoods bloom, and lake temperatures warm enough for paddling by late April. Fall brings drier air and comfortable evenings from late September through November, with the fewest bugs of the year.
Summer is hot and humid. The average low in January at Tyler State Park is 32 degrees, the average high in July is 97 degrees, and the first freeze of the season typically arrives in late November. Afternoon thunderstorms are common in May and June, and shaded, full-hookup sites with strong 50-amp service are worth booking early for July and August so air conditioning can keep up.
Winter is mild but variable. Hard freezes are brief, most private parks operate year round, and winter Texans routinely stay in the Tyler area from December through February. Expect occasional cold rain and short cold snaps that can drop overnight lows into the 20s.

How to book a campground near Hideaway
For state park sites, reservations go through the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department. Tyler State Park bookings can be made online or by phone, with options including electric, water-only, full-hookup, and cabin sites. Most overnight camping or lodging reservations may be reserved up to five months in advance, and the five-month reservation window opens at 8 a.m. Day pass entrance permits may be reserved up to one month before your visit.
A 2-night minimum stay applies for all Friday and Saturday night reservations, and holiday weekends require a 3-night minimum. Call the park or the Customer Service Center if a late arrival is likely.
Private resorts such as Three Oaks RV Community, Patriot Escapes RV Resort, Field of Dreams RV Resort, Tyler Oaks RV Resort, and We RV Champions of Tyler book directly through their own websites or by phone, and typically require a deposit at reservation.
What to expect on arrival
Sites in this area are generally level with full hookups at private resorts, and water-and-electric or full-hookup options at Tyler State Park. The Lakeview Camping Area offers full-hookup RV sites, each equipped with a picnic table, lantern post, and fire ring, with an RV dump station, shower room, and restrooms at the center of the camping area. Narrow interior roads in some sections can challenge larger RVs, with tight maneuvering required for back-in sites.
Campers receive a four-digit gate code for after-hours entry, and if arriving after hours a camping reservation listing is posted at the Headquarters Late Arrival Board. To help prevent the spread of invasive species, purchase firewood at the park store or from local vendors rather than transporting it from home.
Raccoons are active around the campgrounds, and reviewers note persistent nighttime visits from raccoon families looking for food. Store food inside the RV rather than on picnic tables, and keep coolers latched overnight.
