Camping near Kilgore, Texas
Kilgore sits in East Texas between Longview and Tyler, in the Piney Woods region along Interstate 20 and U.S. 259. The town is known for its 1930s oil-boom history, with restored derricks that mark the downtown skyline and preserved historic buildings, making it a compact base for road-trippers exploring East Texas.
RV travelers typically choose between private parks close to town and a state park campground on a nearby lake. Twisted Pines RV Park and Antique Capital RV Park sit within easy reach of Kilgore's museums and downtown, while Stillwater RV Resort and Logan's Way Tiny Home & RV Park offer additional options for full hookups. Fernbrook Park rounds out the closest cluster of sites.
For lakefront camping, Martin Creek Lake State Park lies southwest of Tatum in Rusk County, managed by the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department. The park offers year-round fishing, camping, paddling, lake swimming, hiking and cycling, and it is the closest state park to Kilgore and a common weekend destination for local RVers.
Things to do around Kilgore
The East Texas Oil Museum on the Kilgore College campus recreates oil discovery and production from the early 1930s in what was then the largest oil field inside U.S. boundaries. Downtown, visitors can photograph the restored derricks at the World's Richest Acre Park, where the block once held the highest concentration of oil wells in the world. The Texas Museum of Broadcasting and Communications is also downtown.
Outdoor activities center on the region's lakes. At Martin Creek Lake State Park, visitors fish for largemouth bass, crappie and catfish, paddle, swim and hike wooded shoreline trails, including a footbridge to a small island. There are no lifeguards, so swimming is at your own risk.
Day trips reach Tyler's Municipal Rose Garden and Caldwell Zoo, the antique shops of Gladewater, and Caddo Lake's cypress sloughs to the east.

Spring and fall are the most comfortable seasons for RV travel in East Texas. Daytime highs run in the seventies with cool nights, and warm-weather months are the busiest at Martin Creek Lake State Park, so weekend sites should be booked ahead. Wildflowers and dogwoods bloom through March and April, and spring thunderstorms can be intense, so campers should watch the forecast for severe-weather alerts.
Summer brings hot, humid conditions. August is typically the warmest month, with average highs in the mid-nineties, and shaded, hookup sites with 50-amp service become important for running air conditioning. Afternoon storms are common. The lake stays warm year-round because of the adjacent power plant, which extends the fishing season.
Winters are short and mild, with occasional freezes. December in Kilgore averages a high near 56°F and a low near 41°F, and most private RV parks in the area stay open year-round. Snow is rare and typically light when it does fall.

How to book campgrounds near Kilgore
State park campsites in the area are booked through the Texas Parks and Wildlife reservation system, online or by phone. At Martin Creek Lake State Park, reservations can be made for today and up to five months in advance, and the park often reaches capacity on weekends and holidays, so reserving both camping and day-use passes ahead is recommended. Late arrivals should call the park office before the office closes on the arrival date to obtain the gate code, since the gate is locked from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m.
Private RV parks around Kilgore, including Twisted Pines RV Park, Antique Capital RV Park, Stillwater RV Resort, Fernbrook Park and Logan's Way Tiny Home & RV Park, take direct bookings by phone or through their own websites. For spring weekends, holidays and Kilgore College events, reserving several weeks ahead is advisable, especially for pull-through and 50-amp sites.
What to expect on-site
Private RV parks near Kilgore generally offer full hookups with water, sewer and 30/50-amp electric on level pads, and several advertise big-rig-friendly concrete pads with private picnic areas. Antique Capital RV Park is one example of the newer style of park in the area.
State park sites at Martin Creek Lake mix developed and primitive options. Developed sites include water and electric hookups, and some also offer sewer connections for RVs, while primitive sites lack water or electricity but are more secluded. The park gate is open from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m., and late arrivals must contact the office ahead of time for the gate code. Expect pine shade, biting insects in summer, and note that the park has reported invasive Argentine ants at some campsites, so inspect gear before leaving.

No Commercial Driver's License (CDL) or special endorsement is required for any motorhome or travel trailer available on RVezy, whether it's a compact campervan or a 32-foot Class C. You must be 25 or older with a valid driver's license, and RVezy verifies your ID through the platform during booking. Visiting from outside the US? Absolutely — pet-friendly RV rental in Kilgore is easy to find on RVezy. Just toggle the Pet-Friendly filter when searching and you'll see hosts who welcome dogs (and sometimes cats) in their rigs. Yes — RV delivery in Kilgore is one of the easiest ways to start your trip, especially if you're a first-time renter. Many RVezy hosts will drive the motorhome or travel trailer directly to your campground, lake house, or even your driveway, then level it, hook up water and power, and walk you through every system before they leave. This is a game-changer for travel trailers, which require proper hitching and weight distribution setup. Use the Delivery filter to find hosts offering this service, and popular drop-off spots include Martin Creek Lake State Park and Lake Cherokee. Pro tip: ask about delivery fees per mile up front — many Kilgore hosts deliver free within 20 miles.

weather.gov/shv/I've never rented an RV before. Will I get help figuring it out?
You're in great hands, even if it's your first time renting an RV. Every RVezy host in Kilgore provides a hands-on orientation at pickup, walking you through the generator, slide-outs, water and waste systems, propane, awning, and driving tips — no question is too basic. You can also message your host directly before booking to ask anything, and many hosts share a personalized walkthrough video so you can review on the road. RVezy customer support is available 24/7 throughout your trip. Pro tip: choose a Class C motorhome or campervan for your first Kilgore RV rental — they drive much more like a large SUV than the big Class A coaches.

RVezy's customer support team is available around the clock as well. Snap a photo of the RV's VIN and license plate at pickup and save your host's number, it makes any roadside call faster and easier.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailCan I take my Kilgore RV rental into Louisiana or other states?
Yes, interstate travel is widely allowed for RV rental in Texas, and Kilgore is well positioned for it. Most hosts welcome trips into Louisiana (Shreveport is just 65 miles east), Arkansas, Oklahoma, and across Texas to destinations like Big Bend or the Gulf Coast. Always confirm your route with the host through the listing before booking, since a few prefer to keep their rig closer to home. Travel into Mexico is not permitted on any RVezy rental because insurance coverage does not extend across the border. A popular RV road trip from Kilgore loops through Caddo Lake, Hot Springs National Park, and Texarkana, roughly 450 scenic miles total.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validityHow much should I budget for fuel on a Kilgore RV trip?
Fuel is one of the most predictable parts of your Kilgore RV trip budget. Class B campervans typically get 18 to 22 MPG, Class C motorhomes average 10 to 14 MPG, and Class A coaches run 7 to 10 MPG. Travel trailers depend on your tow vehicle but expect a 20 to 30% drop from its usual mileage. Gas in the Kilgore and Longview area typically runs 15 to 25 cents per gallon below the national average, which is a real perk of renting in East Texas. Pro tip: Buc-ee's in Terrell (90 minutes west on I-20) and Love's Travel Stops along US-259 are RV-friendly with high-flow diesel pumps and easy pull-throughs.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book a campground near Kilgore?
For Texas State Parks like Martin Creek Lake, Tyler, and Caddo Lake, book through the Texas Parks and Wildlife reservation system up to 5 months ahead, since weekends from April through October fill fast. Private parks like Shallow Creek RV Resort and Tall Pines typically book 4 to 8 weeks out, and you can often call directly for last-minute spots midweek. For major events like the Texas Rose Festival in Tyler (October) or Rangerette performances, aim for 2 to 3 months ahead. If everything looks booked, ask your RVezy host about overnight options, many Kilgore hosts know private RV pads on Lake Cherokee or quiet spots in the Sabine National Forest.
tpwd.texas.gov/state-parks/reservationsWhat are driving conditions like around Kilgore, TX?
Driving an RV around Kilgore is refreshingly easy compared to big-city Texas. Roads are flat to gently rolling, traffic is light outside of rush hour in nearby Longview, and I-20 (10 miles north) gives you fast access east and west with plenty of wide truck-friendly exits. Watch for spring thunderstorms from March to May (pull over if winds exceed 40 mph), summer afternoon downpours, and the occasional deer at dusk on US-259 and FM roads. Avoid downtown Kilgore's lower clearance railroad underpasses with taller Class A rigs. Pro tip: fuel up before leaving town — once you head into the Piney Woods or toward Caddo Lake, gas stations get smaller and RV-friendly pumps become less common.

Campgrounds near Kilgore are well-equipped for a comfortable stay. Most Texas State Parks like Martin Creek Lake and Tyler offer full hookups (water, 30/50-amp electric, sewer) or water-and-electric sites, hot showers, dump stations, and potable water fill-ups. Private parks like Shallow Creek RV Resort in Gladewater add laundry, Wi-Fi, pools, and propane refills. If you need to dump tanks mid-trip, Martin Creek Lake State Park has a public dump station, and several Love's and Pilot stops along I-20 offer dumping for a small fee. Pro tip: bring a 25-foot drinking-water hose and a pressure regulator — East Texas water pressure can spike high enough to damage RV plumbing without one.

Expect a queen or king bed, convertible dinette or bunk beds (sleeping 4 to 8 depending on size), a full kitchen with fridge, stove, microwave, and sink, plus a wet bath or full bathroom with shower and toilet. Air conditioning and furnace are standard, essential for East Texas summers and cool winter nights. Many rigs include a generator, outdoor speakers, awning, TV, and onboard Wi-Fi or a cellular booster. Seatbelts are required for all passengers while driving. Check the listing for included kitchen kits and linens, many Kilgore hosts toss them in free, saving you a store run on day one.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Kilgore,TexasWhat add-ons and pickup options should I know about?
Kilgore RVezy hosts offer plenty of useful add-ons to customize your trip: camping chairs and tables ($5 to $15/day), bedding and kitchen kits ($25 to $75 flat), generators ($25 to $50/day if not included), bike racks, kayaks, and portable grills. Most hosts include 100 to 150 free miles per day, with extra miles at 35 to 50 cents each, and some offer RV rental with unlimited mileage for longer Texas loops. Pickup is usually at the host's home in Kilgore or Longview, but delivery to Martin Creek Lake, Lake Cherokee, or your driveway is common. Bundle delivery, generator, and a kitchen kit when booking, many hosts discount the package for first-time renters.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Kilgore,TexasHow does payment and the security deposit work on RVezy?
Payment for your Kilgore RV rental is handled entirely through RVezy's secure platform, with no cash, no checks, and no handoffs with the host. You pay with a credit or debit card when you book, and a refundable security deposit (typically $500 to $1,500 depending on the RV) is pre-authorized on your card a few days before pickup. As long as you return the rig in the same condition with the agreed fuel and tank levels, the hold is released after your trip. Take time-stamped photos and a quick walk-around video of the RV at pickup and drop-off, it is the easiest way to ensure a smooth deposit return on your Kilgore RV rental.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksIs a Kilgore RV rental good for a family trip?
A family RV trip from Kilgore is one of the best ways to experience East Texas together. Travel trailers and Class C motorhomes on RVezy comfortably sleep 4 to 8, with bunk beds the kids will fight over (in a good way). Spend mornings fishing or swimming at Martin Creek Lake State Park, afternoons exploring the East Texas Oil Museum in downtown Kilgore, and evenings roasting marshmallows under the Piney Woods stars. Caddo Lake's cypress swamp paddling tours are a hit with curious kids, and Tyler State Park has a designated swim beach. Pro tip: filter by Sleeps 6+ and Pet-Friendly to find family-perfect rigs, and message the host about kid-friendly extras like outdoor games or bikes.
