Mabank sits on the northwest shore of Cedar Creek Lake in East Texas, roughly an hour southeast of the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex. The area draws RV travelers for lake recreation, warm-water fishing, and easy highway access via US 175. Cedar Creek Reservoir covers about 32,000 acres and offers a long shoreline with mixed private RV parks and one nearby state park.
Lakeside private parks handle most bookings around town. Chuck's RV Resort, Blue Sky at Cedar Creek Lake RV Park, Pine Gardens RV Park at Cedar Creek Lake, and Shiloh on the Lake sit on or near the water and cater to full-hookup rigs, from short trips to extended stays. Big-rig access varies by park, so confirm site length before booking.
For a public-land option, Main - Purtis Creek State Park lies a short drive east near Eustace and offers a quieter, more natural setting on a 355-acre lake. Together these give travelers a mix of resort-style and state-park camping within a compact radius of Mabank.

How to book
Main - Purtis Creek State Park is reserved through the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department. Campsite reservations open five months in advance on a rolling basis, and day-use entry passes can be booked up to one month ahead. A per-person daily entrance fee applies on top of camping fees, and site holds go quickly for summer and holiday weekends.
Private parks around Cedar Creek Lake, including Chuck's RV Resort, Blue Sky at Cedar Creek Lake RV Park, Pine Gardens RV Park at Cedar Creek Lake, and Shiloh on the Lake, book directly through their own websites or by phone. Lead times are shorter than the state park, but lakefront pull-throughs and 50-amp sites move first. For summer weekends, aim to reserve four to eight weeks out.
What to expect
Terrain is gently rolling with mixed oak, pine, and cedar. Cedar Creek Lake is shallow and warm, and its shoreline is a mix of residential development, marinas, and campgrounds. Cell coverage is generally reliable across Mabank, Gun Barrel City, and Seven Points, and grocery, fuel, and RV supplies are all within a short drive.
At Main - Purtis Creek State Park, expect a smaller, quieter lake with a strict no-wake, idle-only policy. Only 50 motorized boats are allowed on the lake at a time on a first-come, first-served basis, and the gate is open from 6am to 10pm.
Summer brings biting insects, so pack repellent. Storms can be intense, so watch forecasts and secure awnings when severe weather is possible.
