Campgrounds and RV parks near Oak Trail Shores, TX

Lake Granbury anchors most trips. Granbury City Beach Park has a swim area on the lake, and the historic square in downtown Granbury offers shops, restaurants, and seasonal events. Acton Nature Center, just outside town, provides short walking trails and birdwatching close to camp. Day trips are easy. Dinosaur Valley State Park near Glen Rose is known for 113-million-year-old well-preserved theropod and sauropod tracks across five main tracksites, plus hiking and swimming when river conditions allow. Fossil Rim Wildlife Center offers a drive-through wildlife route, and Cleburne State Park and Lake Mineral Wells State Park are within roughly 30 to 45 miles for fishing, hiking, and rock climbing.

The area has hot, muggy summers and cool, occasionally windy winters. June through August is the busiest tourism season around Granbury, so lakeside sites and Dinosaur Valley State Park fill quickly on weekends and holidays. August is the hottest month, with an average high near 96 degrees Fahrenheit and an average low near 72, and thunderstorms can move through fast, so awnings and slide toppers benefit from being closed when leaving camp. Spring is a popular window for state-park camping. March through May brings warm days and the year's heaviest rainfall, with May typically the wettest month, averaging about four inches of precipitation. Trails and low-water crossings at Dinosaur Valley can close after storms. Fall cools gradually from September into November, tourism slows, and daytime conditions are comfortable for lake activities. Winter is the quietest season: January is the coldest month, with average highs near 57 and lows around 32, snowfall is rare, and most private RV parks stay open year-round, as does Dinosaur Valley State Park.

Private parks near Oak Trail Shores lean utilitarian rather than resort-style, with gravel or grass pads, full hookups, and quick access to Granbury's grocery stores, marinas, and the historic square. Cell service is generally reliable across the Granbury area. Larger rigs should confirm site length and turning radius, particularly at older lakeside parks. At Dinosaur Valley State Park, maximum trailer length in the electric camping area is 35 feet due to winding roads and trees. South Primitive sites are hike-in with no showers, restrooms, picnic tables, or on-site water, and campers must hike between a third and a half mile to reach them. Access to some sites requires wading the river, which can be unreachable when levels are too high, and trails may be closed due to wet conditions or weather.
