Campgrounds and RV parks near Stinnett, TX

Lake Meredith is the main draw. The reservoir supports boating year-round, and anglers target bass, catfish, crappie, and walleye from shore and boat. Multiple public launches ring the lake, and swim beaches see use in the warm months. On land, the recreation area maintains hiking and mountain-biking routes through the breaks, plus horseback and off-highway-vehicle areas. The adjacent Alibates Flint Quarries National Monument offers ranger-led tours of prehistoric quarry sites. Wildlife viewing is productive at dawn and dusk, with mule deer, pronghorn, and abundant birdlife across the grasslands. Day trips from a Stinnett base include Palo Duro Canyon State Park to the south and the Panhandle-Plains Historical Museum in Canyon.

Spring and fall are the most comfortable windows for RV travel in the Panhandle. Daytime highs sit in the seventies, nights cool off, and the lake stays open. Spring can bring severe thunderstorms and hail, so travelers should monitor watches and warnings and plan awnings and slide-outs accordingly. Summer runs hot, with afternoon highs regularly in the low nineties and strong sun. Lake use peaks from Memorial Day through Labor Day, and holiday weekends see the heaviest turnout at Sanford-Yake and the developed shore campgrounds. Wind is a constant factor across the plains and campers should stake down anything loose. Winters are cold and dry, with hard freezes routine and occasional snow. Most Lake Meredith campgrounds remain open year-round, but water systems may be shut off during freezes and services at private parks can run on reduced schedules. Hunting seasons in the fall and early winter add camper traffic on weekends.

Expect wide-open sky, few trees, and steady wind. Campgrounds inside Lake Meredith are primitive: picnic tables, shade shelters, and grills, with restrooms that have potable water, showers, and flush toilets at the developed sites, and limited or no hookups outside the small hookup loop at Sanford-Yake. Cell coverage is spotty away from the highway. Roads to the shoreline campgrounds are paved to the main areas but include steep grades into the canyons; drivers of long trailers and Class A motorhomes should scout turnarounds before committing. Blowing dust after storms is common. Bring extra water, sun protection, and a plan for shade. Fire bans are used at Lake Meredith National Recreational Area during dry stretches, so check current conditions with the National Park Service before arrival and pack a stove that meets any active restriction.
