Campgrounds and RV parks near Elk Ridge, UT

Utah Lake is the dominant recreation draw, offering boating, paddleboarding, and year-round fishing for channel catfish, walleye, white bass, black bass, and panfish. Utah Lake State Park's marina includes four boat launch ramps, courtesy docks, a swim beach, and a fish-cleaning station. South of Elk Ridge, the Nebo Loop Scenic Byway climbs 37 miles through the Uinta-Wasatch-Cache National Forest, passing Payson Lakes and Devil's Kitchen Geological Area. The Payson Lakes Recreation Area supports canoeing, kayaking, and trout fishing at McClelland, Box, and Big East Lakes, plus a paved nature path around Big East Lake that works well for families. Provo Canyon adds Blue Ribbon trout fishing, tubing, and hiking, with Sundance Mountain Resort nearby for summer chairlift rides and winter skiing.

The camping season splits sharply by elevation. Valley campgrounds around Utah Lake, including Lakeside RV Campground and the state park, stay accessible much of the year, while mountain sites on the Nebo Loop and in the surrounding national forest typically close by mid-October and reopen as snow clears in late spring or early summer. Payson Lakes Campground, at 8,000 feet, is a seasonal concessionaire operation that generally opens around Memorial Day weekend and runs into mid-October, since the Nebo Loop road itself closes for winter. Summer is peak booking season. Utah Lake water temperatures average around 75 degrees Fahrenheit, drawing heavy weekend and holiday traffic to the marina and beach. Mosquitoes are a known issue at Utah Lake State Park from late spring through early fall, so screens and repellent matter. Fire restrictions are common in mid to late summer. Stage 1 and Stage 2 restrictions have been imposed across state and national forest lands in recent seasons, banning open fires and charcoal even in established rings. Check the park and forest websites before arrival.

Utah Lake State Park's campground has 31 reservable sites along the Lakeshore Loop with water and electric hookups, paved 40 to 50 foot spurs, tables, fire rings, flush toilets, hot showers, and an RV dump station. RVs up to 47 feet can be accommodated, and there are no full hookups on site. Cell service is generally reliable, and the Provo airport sits next door, so occasional aircraft noise is normal. Private parks fill the full-hookup gap. Springville/Provo KOA Holiday offers pull-throughs, a pool, and a recreation hall, and Lakeside RV Campground provides year-round full-service RV sites in a quieter setting just southeast of the state park. Mountain campgrounds like Payson Lakes have paved spurs, potable water in season, and vault or flush toilets but no hookups; nights can be significantly cooler than the valley.
