Campgrounds and RV parks near Elwood, UT

Golden Spike National Historical Park at Promontory Summit commemorates the completion of the first Transcontinental Railroad, where the Central Pacific and Union Pacific met on May 10, 1869. Two short auto tour routes run through the park: the West Grade tour follows the stretch where the Central Pacific set a record for track laid in a single day, and the East Grade tour begins several miles east of the visitor center along the Union Pacific grade. Bear River Migratory Bird Refuge covers roughly 74,000 acres of wetlands at the mouth of the Bear River, sits on the Pacific Flyway, and hosts a 12-mile one-way auto tour route open during daylight hours year-round, weather and road conditions permitting. Mantua Reservoir is just one mile from Box Elder Campground, offering fishing, boating, canoeing and swimming. Horseback riding and hiking on local trails are also popular activities. Willard Bay State Park adds a large freshwater bay for boating and beach use west of Brigham City.

Northern Utah runs on a strong four-season rhythm. Summers are dry and hot, with July averaging highs near 29.8°C (85.6°F), and winters are cold and snowy, with January lows near -7.9°C (17.8°F). The least amount of rainfall occurs in July, averaging about 13 mm, while the most falls in April, with an average of 73 mm. Most public forest campgrounds in the area operate on a spring-to-fall calendar. Box Elder Campground, for example, operates April 24 through October 4, with reservations through Recreation.gov and some first-come, first-served sites. Private parks such as Aspen Grove RV Park, Golden Spike RV Park, and Brigham City / Perry South KOA Journey typically stay open longer, though some services scale back in the coldest months. Shoulder seasons are strong for touring. Spring brings peak wetland birding at Bear River, and fall delivers cool nights, foliage in the canyons, and thinner crowds at Golden Spike and Mantua Reservoir. Note that the Utah Division of Water Quality has issued a Harmful Algal Bloom advisory for Mantua Reservoir, with guidance to avoid swimming, water skiing, and areas of visible algae. Check current status before entering the water.

Elwood-area private parks generally offer full hookups, level pads, Wi-Fi of varying quality, and easy interstate access. Belmont Hot Springs RV Park and Resort adds mineral pools, and Mantua Waterfront RV Resort places sites near a reservoir with mountain views. Expect open sky and limited natural shade at some Box Elder County parks, so awnings and window covers matter in summer. Forest campgrounds such as Box Elder accommodate tents, RVs, and trailers up to 40 feet on gravel driveways with back-in access, with flush toilets and drinking water provided. Bear country rules apply with mandatory food and trash storage. Cell service is generally strong near I-15 but thins out fast in the canyons and on the Promontory peninsula. Reception at Golden Spike is spotty, so download maps before heading west of Corinne.
