Campgrounds near Ferron, Utah
Ferron sits in Castle Valley in Emery County, along Utah State Route 10 between the Wasatch Plateau to the west and the San Rafael Swell to the east. The town is a practical base for RV travelers who want reservoir camping, off-highway vehicle access, and a quieter alternative to Utah's busier national-park corridors. Salt Lake City lies roughly 165 miles to the northwest, and Capitol Reef National Park is about 85 miles away.
The closest developed campground is Millsite State Park, at the mouth of Ferron Canyon on a 435-acre reservoir west of town. Huntington State Park sits about 20 miles north near the town of Huntington, and Buckhorn RV Park and Resort operates in Huntington with pull-through RV sites and 30/50-amp service. Farther afield, Pleasant Creek RV Resort in the Sanpete Valley and the Wakara loop at Palisade State Park near Sterling both put RV travelers within reach of the Arapeen OHV trail system.
Expect high-desert scenery, cottonwood-lined reservoirs, and easy access to BLM land.
Things to do near Ferron
Water recreation is the anchor. Millsite Reservoir is stocked with trout and is popular for fishing year-round, and Huntington Reservoir is a warm-water fishery that supports boating, waterskiing, and crawdad catching. Palisade Reservoir near Sterling is popular for paddling and family fishing. Trails ring each reservoir, and short walking loops connect the Huntington campground with the shoreline.
Off-highway vehicle riding is a major draw. The Arapeen OHV trail system is accessible from the Sanpete side near Palisade, and the San Rafael Swell offers dispersed exploration to the east. Day trips from Ferron reach the Wedge Overlook, Buckhorn Wash petroglyphs, and the Cleveland-Lloyd Dinosaur Quarry. Golf courses sit adjacent to Millsite and Palisade State Parks.

Millsite State Park is open year-round, with the campground reservable through a four-month rolling window. Huntington State Park keeps its campground reservable from April 1 through September 30; from October 1 through March 31 the campground remains open but operates on a first-come, first-served basis. Palisade State Park is open year-round, though facilities scale down in the off-season.
Summer is peak season for reservoir camping, water sports, and OHV trips into the Manti-La Sal National Forest and San Rafael Swell. Fire restrictions are common in dry stretches, and Utah State Parks posts current stage-level rules on stateparks.utah.gov. Refunds are not issued for fire bans or changing water levels. Spring runoff can raise flows in Ferron Canyon when snowmelt fills the reservoirs.
Buckhorn RV Park and Resort in Huntington and Pleasant Creek RV Resort book directly through their operators, and travelers should confirm current seasonal hours before arrival.
Booking and reservations
Utah State Parks handles reservations for Millsite State Park, Huntington State Park, and the Wakara loop at Palisade State Park through the Utah State Parks reservation system on ReserveAmerica. Individual campsites and yurts are released on a four-month rolling window, and reservations cannot be made within 48 hours of arrival. Group-use areas can be booked up to 11 months out.
Huntington accepts online reservations April 1 through September 30 and shifts to first-come, first-served the rest of the year. Buckhorn RV Park and Resort books directly through the operator at buckhornrv.com. Pleasant Creek RV Resort also books through the operator. Reserve summer weekends early: sites at the state-park reservoirs fill quickly once the four-month window opens.
What to expect on site

Huntington State Park has 25 sites with electric and water, some with sewer, and can accommodate larger rigs; amenities include modern restrooms, showers, a sewage dump station, and a boat launch.
Buckhorn RV Park and Resort offers pull-through RV sites with 30- and 50-amp service, cable TV, WiFi, showers, card-operated laundry, propane, and family amenities including pickleball courts, batting cages, and a playground. Sites at Millsite and Huntington are open with limited shade, and highway noise can carry into the Huntington campground.

Frequently asked questions about campgrounds near Ferron, UT
How much does it cost to rent an RV in Ferron, UT?
RV rental in Ferron, UT tends to be one of the better values in Utah because you're booking in a small Emery County town rather than a tourist hub like Moab or Salt Lake City. Expect roughly $90 to $175 per night for travel trailers, $125 to $225 for Class C motorhomes, and $200+ for larger Class A rigs, with hosts setting their own rates. To find a cheap RV rental Ferron travelers love, book midweek, target shoulder months like April or October, and use the price filter to sort by budget. Pro tip: many hosts offer weekly discounts for 5+ night stays, which stretches your budget for fuel and Millsite State Park day-use fees.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Ferron%2C%20UtahDo I need a special license to rent an RV in Ferron, Utah?
Good news: a standard driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in Ferron and drive anywhere in Utah. Under Utah Code 53-3-102, recreational vehicles used for personal travel are specifically exempt from Commercial Driver's License (CDL) requirements, no matter the size of the rig. You'll need to be 25 or older to book on RVezy, and ID verification happens right through the platform during checkout. Visiting from outside the US? Bring your home-country license plus an International Driving Permit (IDP) and you're set. Most first-time renters are surprised how simple it is to roll out of Ferron toward the San Rafael Swell with nothing more than the license already in their wallet.
dmv.utah.gov/register/vehicles/motor-homes/What protection and roadside help are included with my Ferron RV rental?
Every RVezy booking in Ferron includes a renter protection plan plus 24/7 roadside assistance, so you can head into remote country like the San Rafael Swell knowing help is a phone call away. You choose your protection level at checkout (Basic, Standard, or Premium), and each plan covers physical damage to the RV during your trip along with liability coverage. Roadside assistance handles tows, jump starts, lockouts, tire changes, and fuel delivery. Pick the coverage that matches your comfort level and focus on enjoying Ferron Canyon instead of worrying.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat if I need to cancel my Ferron RV trip?
Booking an RV rental in Ferron is lower-risk than most people think. RVezy sets the cancellation policy for every booking (not the host), and there is a money-back grace period right after you book so you can lock in dates with confidence. After that, refund eligibility depends on how far out your trip is, and if the host cancels you are refunded or issued credits. You will see the full policy details on the booking page before you confirm payment. Pro tip: book early to secure your dates at Millsite State Park, then relax knowing the RVezy cancellation framework has your back if plans change.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037736674-Understanding-the-cancellation-policy-for-guestsCan I bring my dog on a Ferron RV trip?
Yes, plenty of hosts offer pet-friendly RV rental Ferron travelers love, and your dog will thank you. Use the Pet-Friendly filter on RVezy to see rigs that welcome four-legged crew members. Millsite State Park, just west of town at the mouth of Ferron Canyon, allows leashed pets at campsites. The Manti-La Sal National Forest trails up Ferron Canyon are also leash-friendly and offer shade and water. Pro tip: message the host before booking to mention your dog's size, and pack a collapsible bowl, a long lead, and booties for hot summer slickrock.
stateparks.utah.gov/parks/millsite/Can the RV be delivered to my campsite in Ferron?
Many Ferron-area hosts offer RV delivery Ferron renters rely on, which is perfect if you don't want to drive a motorhome yourself or you're flying into the region. Filter listings by Delivery on RVezy and you will see hosts who will tow or drive the rig directly to Millsite State Park, a private property in Ferron Canyon, or other approved sites. They will level it, hook up power and water, and walk you through every system before handing over the keys. Delivery fees usually scale with distance, so a drop at Millsite is far cheaper than a setup near Goblin Valley. It is the easiest way to handle a first time renting an RV.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Ferron%2C%20UtahHow far can I drive on a Ferron RV trip, and is unlimited mileage available?
Ferron's central Utah location puts you within easy striking distance of multiple bucket-list destinations, so mileage matters. Many hosts include 100 to 150 free miles per night, and some offer RV rental with unlimited mileage, which is gold for a Ferron RV trip that loops through Capitol Reef (about 130 miles south) or Moab (about 130 miles east). Extra miles typically run $0.35 to $0.50 each if you exceed the allowance. Pro tip: filter by Unlimited Mileage if you're planning a big loop, or simply ask the host to quote a flat rate for your planned route. That single message can save you $50+ and lets you wander Buckhorn Wash and the Wedge Overlook without watching the odometer.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Ferron%2C%20UtahWhere are the best campgrounds near Ferron to park an RV?
You have excellent options for RV camping Ferron travelers rave about, all within a short drive. Millsite State Park, just west of town, has sites with electric and water hookups, a dump station, and direct access to Millsite Reservoir and Ferron Canyon. Joe's Valley Reservoir Campground (about 25 miles north, near Orangeville) offers cooler high-elevation sites loved by anglers. Huntington State Park (around 22 miles north) has hookup sites on another lake. For free dispersed camping, the Wedge Overlook and Buckhorn Wash in the San Rafael Swell offer epic Bureau of Land Management (BLM) sites with zero fees. Reserve Millsite well in advance through Utah State Parks because weekends fill fast.
stateparks.utah.gov/parks/millsite/When is the best time of year for an RV trip from Ferron?
Ferron's sweet spot for RV travel runs from mid-April through late October, with the peak being May, June, September, and early October. Summer highs in July average in the upper 80s and nights cool to the low 60s, comfortable for camping at around 5,900 feet elevation. Spring brings wildflowers in Ferron Canyon and high water for paddling Millsite Reservoir, while fall delivers crisp air and golden cottonwoods along Ferron Creek. Winter is genuinely cold with snow on the ground at times, but quiet and beautiful if your rental has a heated tank package. Pro tip: aim for the second half of September. Crowds thin, slot canyons are dry, and the light on the San Rafael Reef is unbeatable.
forecast.weather.gov/MapClick.php?lat=39.0913&lon=-111.1337I've never driven an RV before. Is Ferron a good place to start?
Ferron is one of the friendliest places in Utah for a first time renting an RV. Traffic on UT-10 (the main route through town) is light, the roads are wide, and you can practice on quiet stretches before tackling anything bigger. Every RVezy host gives you a full walkthrough at pickup covering propane, the awning, slide-outs, dumping, and leveling, so you are never left guessing. If you would rather skip the drive entirely, choose a host who delivers to Millsite State Park or your campsite. Pro tip: book a Class C motorhome or a small travel trailer for your first trip. They handle like a large van, and Ferron's flat valley roads make a confidence-building warm-up before you head into the canyon.
rvezy.com/rv-rentals/usa/utahWhat happens if my RV breaks down near Ferron or in the San Rafael Swell?
You are covered around the clock. Every RVezy rental includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the protection plan, so a flat tire on Moore Cutoff Road or a dead battery at the Wedge Overlook is a phone call away from getting sorted. Dispatch handles towing, jump starts, lockouts, tire changes, and fuel delivery. Because cell service drops fast once you leave UT-10 and head into the San Rafael Swell, download offline maps and note your nearest mile marker before exploring. Pro tip: the closest full-service auto help to Ferron is in Price (about 30 miles north on UT-10), so if you are heading deep into the Swell, top up fuel and water in Castle Dale first.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat are the best RV road trips from Ferron?
An RV road trip from Ferron drops you in the center of Utah's adventure country, so the routes are spectacular. Capitol Reef National Park sits about 130 miles south, Goblin Valley State Park is roughly 75 miles southeast, Moab and Arches National Park are around 130 miles east, Salt Lake City is about 140 miles northwest, and Bryce Canyon is roughly 200 miles southwest. Cross-border travel rules are set by individual hosts, so confirm international travel before booking. Pro tip: do a 5-day loop from Ferron through Capitol Reef, Hanksville, Goblin Valley, and back via I-70. It is the perfect Utah sampler.
nps.gov/care/index.htmWhat kind of fuel mileage and gas budget should I plan for around Ferron?
Realistic fuel planning makes a big difference. Class B campervans average 18-22 mpg, Class C motorhomes 8-12 mpg, and Class A rigs 6-9 mpg. Utah gas prices typically run a bit below the national average, often around $3.30 to $3.80 per gallon in Emery County (check GasBuddy day-of). Fill up in Ferron, Castle Dale, or Price because stations get sparse fast in the San Rafael Swell, and there is literally no fuel between Ferron and Hanksville on UT-10/UT-24. Pro tip: budget about $0.40 to $0.65 per mile for fuel on a Class C, and always top off before turning onto Moore Cutoff Road or any dirt route into the Swell. Running dry out there is not an experience you want.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far ahead should I book campgrounds near Ferron?
Reserve early, especially for Millsite State Park. Utah State Parks campsites are available on a four-month rolling reservation window through the Utah State Parks reservation system, meaning sites open about 4 months before your arrival date and weekend slots can disappear quickly during peak season. For Memorial Day, July 4th, and Labor Day weekends, set a calendar reminder for 4 months out and book the moment the window opens. Huntington State Park and Goblin Valley follow the same system. Pro tip: midweek availability is usually wide open even in summer, and dispersed BLM camping in the San Rafael Swell never requires a reservation, so a Tuesday-to-Thursday Ferron RV trip can be planned almost spontaneously.
stateparks.utah.gov/parks/millsite/What are the driving conditions like around Ferron?
Driving around Ferron is refreshingly straightforward. UT-10, the main north-south corridor connecting Price to I-70, is a wide, well-maintained two-lane highway with light traffic and gentle grades, which makes it ideal for motorhome rental Ferron drivers of any experience level. The terrain is high desert valley, 5,900 feet elevation, with the Wasatch Plateau rising to the west. Watch for sudden afternoon thunderstorms in July and August (flash floods can wash dirt roads in the San Rafael Swell), occasional crosswinds, and deer at dawn and dusk. Pro tip: avoid driving unpaved Swell roads like Buckhorn Draw after rain. They turn to gumbo clay fast. Stick to paved routes in an RV, then explore the backroads in a smaller vehicle or on foot.
udot.utah.gov/connect/public/traffic-cameras/What amenities will I find at campgrounds near Ferron?
Local campgrounds are well set up for RVers. Millsite State Park has paved, level sites with electric (most also with water), a dump station, drinking water, restrooms, and showers, plus covered pavilions for groups. Huntington State Park offers hookup sites. Joe's Valley has basic amenities and potable water spigots. For dumping and water fills between trips, Maverik stations along UT-10 in Castle Dale and Price have potable water. Pro tip: bring a 50-foot water hose and a 30-amp adapter. Millsite's hookup placement varies by site.
stateparks.utah.gov/parks/millsite/What features and amenities can I expect inside a Ferron RV rental?
Most RVs you'll find for rent around Ferron are turn-key ready for desert and canyon country. Expect a queen or king bed, a kitchen with fridge, stove, microwave, sink, and cookware, an indoor bathroom with shower and toilet, roof air conditioning, a furnace, and a propane water heater. Seatbelts for everyone riding (Utah law requires this), house batteries for boondocking, and an awning for shade are standard. Many rigs include a generator (great for dispersed camping at the Wedge Overlook), solar panels, an outdoor shower, and a TV. WiFi is rarely included since cell service vanishes in the Swell. Pro tip: filter listings by sleeps count and generator if you're planning off-grid nights, those two features make or break a San Rafael Swell adventure.
highwaysafety.utah.gov/seat-belts/What add-ons and pickup options should I expect when I rent an RV in Ferron?
Hosts in the Ferron area offer all the extras that make a campervan rental Ferron trip feel effortless. Common add-ons include linens and bedding packs ($30 to $75), kitchen kits, camp chairs and tables, bike racks, generators, propane fill-ups, portable grills, and stargazing telescopes (genuinely useful here, Ferron has some of Utah's darkest skies). Mileage policies typically range from 100 to 150 miles per night with options to prepay extra miles at a discount. Pickup usually happens at the host's home or a public meet-up point in Ferron or Castle Dale, and delivery is widely available. Pro tip: ask the host to throw in a Utah State Parks day-use pass if they have one. It pays for itself in two stops.
stateparks.utah.gov/passes/How does payment and the security deposit work for a Ferron RV rental?
Payment is simple and handled entirely through RVezy, never in cash to the host. You will pay for the rental, taxes, and your chosen protection plan by credit or debit card at booking, and a refundable security deposit is placed as a hold on your card before pickup (separate from the booking payment). The hold is released after the trip, assuming the RV comes back in the same shape it left. To avoid any deposit issues, take photos at pickup and drop-off, return the rig with the same fuel and propane level, and follow the host's dumping instructions. Pro tip: ask your host for a quick checklist at orientation. It keeps your full deposit safely on its way back to you.
