Campgrounds and RV parks near Fillmore, UT

Fillmore was Utah's first territorial capital, and the Territorial Statehouse State Park Museum in town preserves the original sandstone building from the 1850s. West of town, the Pahvant Butte and Tabernacle Hill lava flows offer easy off-highway exploration of recent volcanic terrain, and Meadow Hot Springs sits a short drive south. East of Fillmore, the Pahvant Range and Fishlake National Forest provide cooler-elevation hiking, dispersed camping, and fall aspen viewing. Chalk Creek Canyon is a common day-use route into the range. At Fremont Indian State Park, roughly an hour southeast, visitors can walk short interpretive trails past extensive rock art panels and tour a museum built around artifacts recovered from what was once the largest known Fremont village site.

Central Utah has a high-desert climate with four distinct seasons. Summers are hot and dry at valley elevations, with July highs near 90°F, while nights cool sharply thanks to the roughly 5,100-foot elevation. Thunderstorms build over the Pahvant Range from mid-July through August during the North American Monsoon, occasionally producing flash flooding in canyons and washes. Spring and fall are the most comfortable windows for RV travel. May through mid-June and September through mid-October bring mild days, cool nights, and lighter interstate traffic. Higher-elevation roads and dispersed sites in Fishlake National Forest typically clear of snow by late May and become impassable again after the first heavy November storms. Winter brings freezing temperatures, snow, and occasional icy stretches on I-15 through the Scipio and Cove Fort passes. Some private RV parks remain open year-round with limited services, while higher-elevation forest campgrounds generally close or reduce services from late fall through spring. Sam Stowe at Fremont Indian State Park is listed as open year-round, though winter conditions can affect access.

Fillmore is a small town with fuel, groceries, propane, and basic RV supplies clustered along the I-15 business route. Cell coverage is reliable in town and along the interstate but drops off quickly in the Pahvant Range and side canyons. Sites at the KOA properties and Venture RV Park Richfield are generally level and graveled, sized for larger rigs and slide-outs. Sam Stowe at Fremont Indian State Park is smaller and more rustic, with a handful of full-hookup sites offering 30/50-amp power, water, and sewer, plus coin-operated showers and flush toilets. The one-mile campground access road is unpaved, and freeway noise from nearby I-70 reaches some sites. Elevation matters here. Days can be hot while nights drop into the 40s or 50s even in midsummer, so RVers should plan for both air conditioning and a warm layer.
