Campgrounds and RV parks near Gunnison, UT

Water is the main draw. At Palisade Reservoir, only electric-motor and non-motorized boats are allowed, so paddling, fishing for rainbow, tiger, and cutthroat trout, and swimming from the sandy beach are the primary activities. The park also has an 18-hole desert canyon golf course and a walking loop over the dam and around the reservoir. Yuba Reservoir supports full motorized boating, water skiing, windsurfing, kayaking, and swimming, plus year-round fishing for walleye, northern pike, tiger muskie, catfish, and yellow perch. The park has added two zip lines just north of Oasis and offers boat-in and beach camping. Off-water, the Arapeen ATV trail system and Six-Mile Canyon are accessed near Palisade, while OHV trails and pictograph viewing by boat near Painted Rocks draw visitors to Yuba.

Palisade State Park is open year-round, though Sanpete Valley winters bring hard freezes and snow, and the water-based amenities effectively shut down from late fall through early spring. The Wakara hookup loop is the practical winter option for RVs when it is accessible, since most Oasis facilities including restrooms and the dump station close during winter months. Yuba's peak runs from Memorial Day through Labor Day, when the reservoir warms enough for swimming and the beaches fill on weekends. Water levels at Painted Rocks can drop through summer, and the boat ramp has been closed to motorized launching during low-water periods, so boaters should check current lake conditions before towing, especially after May. Spring runoff often brings the highest water and the greenest surroundings, but wind and cool nights are common. Shoulder months such as May, September, and early October usually offer the best balance for RV travel: mild days, cool nights, quieter campgrounds, and open reservation windows. Fishing continues year-round at Yuba, including ice fishing once the reservoir freezes.

Palisade's Wakara loop is developed: level paved pads, electric or full hookups on most sites, drinking water, flush toilets, hot showers, and an RV dump station. Showers close from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. to conserve water. Quiet hours run 10 p.m. to 7 a.m. and the entrance station closes at 10 p.m., though there is no gate. Yuba is more rustic. Painted Rocks has vault toilets, drinking water, covered picnic shelters on each site, a boat ramp, and electric and water hookups on many sites but no showers. Oasis has modern restrooms with showers, a few RV hookups, and its own boat launch, though winter closures affect restrooms and the dump station. Eagle View, on the east shore, is primitive and reached by boat or high-clearance 4x4. Cell service is spotty at both state parks. Bring shade, water, and firewood, and expect breezy afternoons on the reservoirs.
