Campgrounds near Huntington, Utah
Huntington sits in Emery County between the Wasatch Plateau and the San Rafael Swell, on Utah Highway 10 about 140 miles southeast of Salt Lake City. The park sits between the mountains of the Wasatch Plateau and the desert of the San Rafael Swell and makes a great base for watersports, fishing, quiet camping, and exploring the surrounding area on foot, bike or OHV, including the San Rafael Swell and Manti La-Sal National Forest.
The closest developed camping is at Huntington State Park, on the reservoir just north of town. Facilities include 25 camp sites, numerous picnic sites, modern restrooms, showers, sewage disposal station, boat launching and a large covered group-use pavilion. Buckhorn RV Park and Resort and Legacy Inn and RV Park serve travelers who want full-service hookups in or near town.
For a quieter option, Millsite State Park sits roughly 20 miles south near Ferron, and Nine Mile Ranch offers rustic sites at the mouth of Nine Mile Canyon to the north. Nine Mile Ranch provides cabin, RV, and tent camping with a dump station, hot showers, restrooms, fire rings, picnic tables, and drinking water, and is the primary authorized camping location along the Nine Mile Canyon rock-art corridor.
Things to do near Huntington
The Huntington Reservoir is the local hub for water recreation. This warm-water reservoir is ideal for waterskiing, fishing, and crawdad catching. The boat ramp also supports kayaking and paddleboarding, and anglers target bass, catfish, and trout.
East of town, the San Rafael Swell opens up backcountry driving and rock-art viewing. Options include the view from the Wedge Overlook and the drive into Buckhorn Wash to see the petroglyphs and suspension bridge, though travel in the San Rafael Swell is on improved dirt BLM roads, which may become impassable when wet. The Cleveland-Lloyd Dinosaur Quarry is another popular day trip from the reservoir.
North of town, Nine Mile Canyon is known for its dense concentration of pictographs and petroglyphs, and Ferron Canyon near Millsite offers hiking, ATV routes, and mountain biking.

The main camping season runs spring through fall. Regular camping facilities are available for reservation April 1st through September 30th, and the campground is open from October 1st through March 31st on a first come first serve basis. Cold winter conditions may exist from November through February.
Summer brings the warmest lake temperatures and the busiest weekends. Holiday weekends fill quickly, and reservable sites at both Huntington State Park and Millsite State Park should be locked in well in advance. Afternoon thunderstorms are common in July and August, and dirt roads across the Swell can become impassable after rain.
Spring and fall are the most comfortable seasons for hiking, rock-art tours, and OHV use, with mild days and cool nights. Ferron Canyon near Millsite is a good shoulder-season target for hiking and fishing. Winter camping is limited: reservations pause, some services shut down, and reservoir levels and access can shift with drought and snowpack.
How to book a campsite
Camping reservations for Huntington State Park are made through Reserve America, not through the state park office phone line, and can be made 4 months in advance but not within 48 hours of arrival. Millsite State Park uses the same Utah State Parks reservation system.
Walk-in fees can be paid by fee envelope at the entrance station or by using Park Pass online. Group sites are available for reservation on an 11-month rolling basis. Private options like Buckhorn RV Park and Resort, Legacy Inn and RV Park, and Nine Mile Ranch are booked directly with the operator.
RV renters should confirm site length and slide-out clearance when booking, since some older pull-through sites at Huntington State Park are tight for larger trailers, fifth wheels, and motorhomes with slide-outs.
What to expect on the ground
Huntington State Park has a grassy campground on the reservoir with cinnamon-colored buttes as a backdrop. Electrical and water hookups were added to every site in the campground in 2017. Modern restrooms, hot showers, and a dump station round out the facilities, and highway noise carries across the open terrain.
Millsite is quieter and more remote, with a campground, day-use beach, boat launch, and courtesy docks on a small reservoir at the mouth of Ferron Canyon. Sites include a mix of tent and RV spots with electric hookups, drinking water, restrooms, showers, and a dump station, plus covered group pavilions.
Nine Mile Ranch is rustic and off-grid, with limited or no cell service and no grid power at the sites. Come prepared with cash, water, and supplies from Price or Huntington, and expect long dirt-road drives to reach canyon rock-art panels.

Frequently asked questions about campgrounds near Huntington, UT
How much does an RV rental in Huntington, UT cost?
RV rental in Huntington, UT is one of the most affordable ways to explore Utah's rugged Castle Country. On RVezy, travel trailers typically start around $90 to $150 per night, Class C motorhomes range from $175 to $275 per night, and larger Class A coaches run $250 to $400 per night. Because Huntington sits off the main tourist corridor, you'll often find cheaper RV rental Huntington options than in Moab or Salt Lake City. Pro tip: book midweek in May or September for the best rates, and filter by Instant Book to lock in your dates immediately. Many hosts offer weekly discounts that can shave 10 to 20 percent off your total.
utah.com/destinations/cities-towns/huntington/What license do I need to rent an RV in Huntington, Utah?
Good news: a regular driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in Huntington, Utah. The state of Utah does not require a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) or any special endorsement for personal-use RVs, no matter the size. You'll need to be 25 or older to book on RVezy, and we'll verify your ID securely through the platform during checkout, so there's no paperwork to mail or notarize. Visiting from outside the US? Bring your home country license plus an International Driving Permit (IDP) from your local auto club. That's it: you're cleared to roll out toward the San Rafael Swell.
dld.utah.gov/Is my RV rental protected if something goes wrong?
Absolutely: every RV rental in Huntington, UT booked through RVezy includes a renter protection plan and 24/7 roadside assistance, so you can hit Highway 10 with peace of mind. You choose your protection level during booking (not the host), and coverage helps protect you financially against most physical damage to the RV during your trip. While it is not traditional auto insurance, it provides meaningful coverage if a rock kicks up on Route 31 or a tree branch scrapes the awning at camp. Pro tip: pick a higher-tier plan for canyon trips. Roads near the Wedge Overlook have narrow turnouts and unpredictable desert weather.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat if I need to cancel my Huntington RV rental?
You are covered. RVezy sets the cancellation policy for every booking (not individual hosts), so the rules are consistent across listings rather than displayed per RV. Your refund amount depends on how far in advance of your trip start date you cancel, and details are explained on the RVezy Help Center before you confirm. If a host has to cancel on you, RVezy will help you get a refund or rebooking credit. Pro tip: book early for prime September aspen-viewing weekends on the Wasatch Plateau, knowing the platform policy gives you a clear framework if plans shift.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037736674-Understanding-the-cancellation-policy-for-guestsCan I bring my dog on a Huntington RV trip?
Yes, your pup is welcome on plenty of trips. Use the Pet-Friendly filter on RVezy to instantly see every pet-friendly RV rental Huntington has available. Huntington is a fantastic dog-friendly base: leashed pets are allowed at Huntington State Park's day-use area and campground, on most trails in the Manti-La Sal National Forest, and on BLM lands across the San Rafael Swell, which give dogs plenty of room to explore off the main roads. Pro tip: pack extra water bowls. Castle Country summers can hit the mid-90s and shade is sparse on the desert side of Highway 10.
stateparks.utah.gov/parks/huntington/Can the RV be delivered to my campsite in Huntington?
Yes, RV delivery Huntington is one of the easiest ways to start your trip, especially if it's your first time renting an RV. Many RVezy hosts will deliver and set up the motorhome or travel trailer directly at Huntington State Park, Old Folks Flat Campground, or even a private property in town. They'll level it, connect the hookups, prime the water system, and walk you through every switch and valve before they leave. Just use the Delivery filter when searching, or message a host to confirm. Pro tip: delivery is a smart pick for big travel trailers if you don't want to back into a tight site at the reservoir.
stateparks.utah.gov/parks/huntington/How far can I drive on a Huntington RV rental?
You've got serious range to play with. Mileage policies are set by each host on RVezy, but many Huntington-area listings include 100 to 150 free miles per night, and you'll find RV rental with unlimited mileage options too. From Huntington, you can reach Goblin Valley State Park in about 90 minutes (75 miles), Arches National Park in roughly 2.5 hours (135 miles), Capitol Reef National Park in about 2 hours 15 minutes (130 miles), and Moab in 2.5 hours (140 miles). Salt Lake City is around 2 hours 15 minutes north (130 miles). Pro tip: filter for unlimited-mileage listings if you're planning a multi-park Utah RV trip loop.
nps.gov/arch/planyourvisit/directions.htmWhere are the best campgrounds near Huntington, UT?
You're spoiled for choice. The best campgrounds near Huntington include Huntington State Park Campground, right on the reservoir with 22 sites, electric hookups, and a sandy swimming beach. Old Folks Flat Campground sits 15 miles up Huntington Canyon at 7,400 feet, offering cool summer temps and creekside sites in the Manti-La Sal National Forest. Forks of Huntington Campground is another scenic forest option with shaded sites along the creek. Millsite State Park, 25 minutes south near Ferron, has full hookups and a golf course next door. For free dispersed RV camping Huntington adventures, the Wedge Overlook on BLM land delivers million-dollar canyon views. Pro tip: reserve state park sites early through Utah State Parks.
stateparks.utah.gov/parks/huntington/When is the best time of year for an RV trip from Huntington?
Late April through mid-October is prime time, with the absolute sweet spots being May, June, and September. Daytime highs in Huntington average 70 to 85 degrees Fahrenheit in spring and fall, climbing into the low 90s in July and August. The high country up Huntington Canyon stays 15 to 20 degrees cooler, which is why locals escape to Electric Lake and Cleveland Reservoir mid-summer. Winters are cold and snowy: December through February averages 20 to 40 degrees with road closures common above 8,000 feet. Pro tip: late September is magic. Aspens on the Wasatch Plateau turn gold, the crowds thin out, and reservoir camping is still warm enough for swimming.
weather.gov/slc/I've never rented an RV before. Will I be okay?
You will be in great hands. First time renting an RV in Huntington is genuinely easier than most people expect. Every RVezy host provides a full walkthrough at pickup: how to dump tanks, run the propane, deploy the awning, level the rig, and operate the generator. They will share their phone number so you can text questions mid-trip, and 24/7 roadside assistance is included with every protection plan. Huntington's quiet two-lane highways and lightly trafficked campgrounds make it one of the most forgiving places in Utah to learn. Pro tip: ask your host for a short parking practice in their driveway before you leave. Most are happy to coach you, and confidence builds fast.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat happens if my RV breaks down near Huntington?
Help is one phone call away. Every RVezy booking includes 24/7 roadside assistance with the renter protection plan, covering common issues like flat tires, dead batteries, lockouts, fuel delivery, and towing. Cell service is reliable along Highway 10 and US-6, though it gets patchy deep in Huntington Canyon and the San Rafael Swell, so download offline maps before you head out. Your host is also a direct lifeline: they know their RV's quirks and can usually troubleshoot small issues over text. The nearest full-service RV repair shops are in Price, about 20 minutes north. Pro tip: snap a photo of the propane tank, water pump, and fuse panel locations during your walkthrough.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailCan I take my Huntington RV rental across state lines or into Canada?
Cross-state travel is generally welcome with host approval. From Huntington, popular RV road trips include loops through Colorado (Mesa Verde and Black Canyon of the Gunnison), Arizona (Page, Antelope Canyon, and the Grand Canyon's North Rim), Nevada (Great Basin National Park), and Wyoming (Flaming Gorge and Yellowstone). Travel to Canada may be permitted with host approval and proper documentation, so message the host directly before booking if it is part of your plan. Travel to Mexico is not permitted on RVezy rentals because insurance coverage does not extend across that border. Pro tip: a Huntington to Moab to Mesa Verde loop is a stunning week-long red rock and canyon-country itinerary.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validityWhat should I budget for fuel on a Huntington RV trip?
Easy to plan for. Gas prices in Emery County typically run a few cents below the Utah state average, with stations in Huntington, Castle Dale, and Price (the nearest diesel-friendly stop). Class B campervans get 18 to 22 miles per gallon (MPG), Class C motorhomes around 8 to 12 MPG, Class A coaches 6 to 10 MPG, and travel trailers depend on your tow vehicle but often pull 10 to 14 MPG. For a 500-mile loop through Goblin Valley, Capitol Reef, and back, budget roughly $150 to $275 in fuel for a mid-size motorhome. Pro tip: fill up in Price before heading into the San Rafael Swell. The next pump can be 70 miles away.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far ahead should I book campgrounds near Huntington?
Plan ahead and you'll snag the best sites. Huntington State Park, Millsite State Park, and Goblin Valley reservations open four months in advance through the Utah State Parks reservation system, and summer weekends from Memorial Day to Labor Day often book within 24 hours of the window opening. National Forest campgrounds up Huntington Canyon (Old Folks Flat, Forks of Huntington, Bear Creek) are bookable through Recreation.gov six months out. Pro tip: if you strike out on reservations, the BLM lands around the Wedge Overlook and Buckhorn Wash offer free dispersed camping with jaw-dropping San Rafael Swell views, no reservation needed.
recreation.gov/What are driving conditions like around Huntington?
Driving here is refreshingly mellow. Highway 10 through Huntington is a wide, well-maintained two-lane road with light traffic, perfect for getting comfortable in a bigger rig. The climb up Huntington Canyon on State Route 31 is scenic but steep, gaining 4,000 feet in elevation with switchbacks above Electric Lake, so take it slow and use lower gears on the descent. Watch for deer and elk at dawn and dusk, and check the Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) road conditions site in winter, when SR-31 over the Wasatch Plateau can close after storms. Pro tip: avoid the canyon during summer thunderstorms. Flash flooding in the side washes can briefly close lower stretches of the road.
udot.utah.gov/connect/public/road-weather/What amenities do campgrounds near Huntington offer?
You'll find a great mix. Huntington State Park has 22 sites with 30-amp electric hookups, modern restrooms with showers, potable water fill stations, and an on-site dump station ($10 for non-campers). Millsite State Park offers full hookups (water, electric, sewer). Old Folks Flat and Forks of Huntington in the Manti-La Sal National Forest are more rustic: vault toilets, drinking water in summer, no hookups, but stunning creekside sites. The closest large RV dump and freshwater fill outside state parks is at Maverik in Price. Pro tip: top off your fresh water tank before heading into the San Rafael Swell. Dispersed sites are bone dry and you'll want every gallon.
stateparks.utah.gov/parks/huntington/What equipment and amenities come with a Huntington RV rental?
Most rigs come fully road-trip ready. Expect a queen or king bed, additional sleeping for 2 to 6 people via convertible dinettes or bunks, a full kitchen with fridge, stove, microwave and sink, an indoor bathroom with shower and toilet, air conditioning, propane furnace, and seatbelts for every passenger required by Utah law. Many motorhome rental Huntington listings also include a generator, outdoor speakers, solar panels, backup camera, and sometimes a rooftop TV with antenna. WiFi is usually BYO hotspot since cell coverage is patchy in the canyons. Pro tip: filter for solar-equipped RVs if you want to camp off-grid at the Wedge Overlook for multiple nights without running a generator.
highwaysafety.utah.gov/seat-belts/What add-ons and pickup options should I know about?
Hosts make trips turnkey. Popular add-ons on Huntington RVezy listings include camp chairs and tables ($5 to $15 per trip), bedding and linen packages ($25 to $75), kitchen kits with pots, plates and utensils ($25 to $50), generators (sometimes included, sometimes $20 to $40 per night), bike racks, fishing gear for Huntington Reservoir, and propane top-ups. Pickup is usually at the host's home in Huntington, Castle Dale, Price, or Ferron, with delivery available for an extra fee that often scales with distance. Mileage is set per listing, with many offering 100 to 150 free miles per night. Pro tip: bundle delivery plus the kitchen and bedding kits if you're flying into Salt Lake City. You can Uber straight to the campground.
utah.gov/visiting/index.htmlHow does payment and the security deposit work?
It is straightforward and secure. When you book your campervan rental Huntington or motorhome on RVezy, the rental cost is charged through the platform at booking and held securely until your trip begins. The security deposit is separate from your booking payment and is typically placed as a pre-authorization hold on your card shortly before pickup, with the amount set by the host based on the RV's value. As long as you return the RV in the condition you received it, with the agreed fuel and tank levels, the hold is released after your trip ends. Pro tip: take date-stamped photos and a quick walk-around video at both pickup and drop-off. It is the easiest way to keep your deposit return smooth.
