Campgrounds and RV parks near Hyrum, UT

Hyrum Reservoir is the main draw for families. In the summer the park is an excellent place to participate in a variety of water sports, with a boat ramp for lake access, stocked fishing, and swimming areas. Situated at an elevation of 4,700 feet, the reservoir commonly freezes over during the winter months, providing opportunities for ice fishing and ice skating. Off the water, day trips run in every direction. Attractions less than 15 minutes from the park include Utah State University, Logan Mormon Temple, scenic mountains and year-round blue ribbon fishing streams, and Hardware Ranch, a winter feed elk ranch, is 16 miles from the park up Blacksmith Fork Canyon. Golden Spike National Historical Park sits west toward Promontory, giving riders and history travelers a full-day loop from the Brigham City side.

Cache Valley has four distinct seasons, and the camping window is driven mainly by snow and reservoir conditions. In Hyrum, the summers are hot, dry, and mostly clear and the winters are freezing, snowy, and partly cloudy. July and August are peak booking months at Hyrum State Park, when the reservoir is warm enough for swimming and waterskiing. Sites at Lakeview Campground fill weeks in advance for weekends. Spring is the wettest stretch, with runoff feeding the reservoir and cool nights that can still dip near freezing into May. The month with the most rainfall in Hyrum is January, when the rain falls for 10.1 days and typically aggregates up to 60mm of precipitation, and snow falls January through May and September through December. Shoulder-season RV travelers get quieter sites but should expect closed water hookups at some parks until frost risk passes. Fall brings comfortable daytime temperatures and fewer crowds. Hyrum State Park is a year-round fishing destination, so anglers can still book sites into late season, though the beach and boat traffic wind down after Labor Day.

Hyrum State Park's campground is small and family-oriented. The park like 32 site campground rests at the north end of the reservoir, and campsites allow only room for one vehicle (campers, trailers, motorhomes included) and one tent per campsite, eight people are allowed per campsite, and gates close at 10 p.m. Larger rigs should check site dimensions before booking. The park offers a developed campground located at a small reservoir in Cache Valley near Logan, with recreation opportunities including fishing, boating and camping, and is surrounded by tall, shady trees. Private parks in the corridor lean toward pull-through convenience for travelers on I-15 or US-89, with full-hookup sites, cabins, and tent options depending on the operator.
