Campgrounds and RV parks near Paragonah, UT

The main draw is Cedar Breaks itself. Two short rim trails, Spectra Point and Alpine Pond, both run under two miles and are accessible directly from the scenic drive, though the 10,000-foot elevation makes them feel harder than the distance suggests. Rangers run wildflower walks in July and August and star parties on summer weekends, since the monument is certified as an International Dark Sky Park. Panguitch Lake is the anchor for fishing, kayaking, and small-boat use, with rainbow, brown, and brook trout stocked regularly. The surrounding Dixie National Forest has an extensive OHV trail system, and Brian Head Resort adds lift-served mountain biking in summer and skiing in winter. Bryce Canyon National Park is roughly an hour east, and Zion is within day-trip range for a committed early start.

The high country around Paragonah is strongly seasonal. Cedar Breaks National Monument is open year-round on paper, but the scenic drive on Highway 148 and the visitor center are typically closed from mid-October to late May because of snow. Point Supreme Campground generally opens in mid-June and closes in late September, and heavy snowpack years can push the opening into late June. Snow can accumulate on the rim as early as late October and linger into early June. Summer in the valley near Paragonah is warm and dry, while the plateau above stays cool: Point Supreme highs typically run in the 60s Fahrenheit with nights dropping into the 30s. July and August bring afternoon monsoon thunderstorms and the peak wildflower bloom. September delivers the most stable weather and thinner crowds before high-elevation campgrounds close for the season. Winter shifts activity to Brian Head Resort and snowmobile access into the monument. Fire restrictions on the Dixie National Forest are common in mid to late summer and can prohibit campfires even at developed sites, so check the current stage before arrival.

Expect a real elevation gradient. Paragonah sits near 5,800 feet, Panguitch Lake near 8,200 feet, and Point Supreme near 10,300 feet. Larger RVs should plan for slow climbs on Highway 143 and cooler overnight temperatures on the plateau, even in July. Altitude can also cause shortness of breath and fatigue for guests coming from sea level. Hookups vary widely. Panguitch Lake Resort offers full hookups with 30 and 50 amp service, laundry, and showers. Point Supreme has potable water, flush toilets, and coded warm-water showers but no hookups, and the nearest dump station is at Duck Creek on Highway 14. Cell coverage on the plateau is poor to nonexistent, so download maps and reservations before leaving Cedar City or Parowan. Brian Head has the nearest fuel, groceries, and restaurants for anyone camped inside the monument.
