Campgrounds and RV parks near West Mountain, UT

Utah Lake is the main draw. The lake provides year-round fishing for channel catfish, walleye, white bass, black bass, and several different species of panfish, along with swimming, boating, and paddleboarding. Boat ramps and a marina operate out of Utah Lake State Park on the opposite shore. On land, the Wasatch foothills east of the valley offer hiking, mountain biking, and scenic drives. The Mount Nebo Scenic Byway climbs south of Payson through the Uinta-Wasatch-Cache National Forest, and Payson Lakes and Maple Lake provide day-use picnicking and small-lake fishing. Provo Canyon, a short drive north, adds Bridal Veil Falls, the Provo River Parkway trail, and access to Sundance. Golfers can play the course at Gladstan RV Park, and families often pair a lake day with the shops, restaurants, and attractions in Provo and Orem.

The main RV season runs late spring through early fall. Utah Lake State Park's peak season runs April 1 through October 31, with a 14-day stay limit. Shoulder months (April, May, September, October) are cooler and quieter but reliable for lake access. Summer is peak season. Days are hot and dry, afternoons can bring thunderstorms off the Wasatch, and bug spray proves essential during peak mosquito season, typically late spring through early fall. Weekends and holidays fill early at both state-park and private sites. Booking well ahead is important for July 4, Pioneer Day (July 24), and Labor Day. Winter closes most lake-adjacent campgrounds and brings snow, freezing overnight lows, and icy access roads. The state park campground closes for the season after October 31, with day-use access remaining open year-round until the campground reopens in spring. Full-service private parks along the I-15 corridor stay open year-round for travelers passing through, though hookup availability and amenities may be reduced.

Sites near Utah Lake tend to be flat and open with limited natural shade. The Utah Lake State Park campground has 31 reservable sites in the Lakeshore Loop with water and electric hookups, and each site has a paved parking spur of 40 to 50 feet, a table, fire ring, and grate. Bug repellent is essential in early summer; mosquitoes and biting flies are common lakeside. Gladstan RV Park in Payson offers hookups on a golf-course property, though some sites can be narrow and less than perfectly level, so bring leveling blocks. Springville/Provo KOA Holiday and Lakeside RV Campground are set up for larger rigs and full-service stays close to I-15 amenities. Cell service is good in the area. Groceries, propane, dump stations, and RV repair are readily available in Payson, Spanish Fork, Springville, and Provo, so restocking mid-trip is straightforward.
