Campgrounds and RV parks near Atlantic, VA

Atlantic sits on Virginia's Eastern Shore in Accomack County, a few miles inland from Chincoteague and Assateague Islands. The town is a practical base for RV travelers heading to the barrier-island beaches, and most nearby campgrounds cluster along the bay side of the mainland or on Chincoteague Island itself. Options within a short drive include Tall Pines Harbor Waterfront Campground on Pocomoke Sound, offering full-hookup RV sites along with cabins and other rentals, Trails End Campground Resort, and Sun Outdoors Chincoteague Bay. On the island, Jellystone Park Chincoteague Island and Tom's Cove Park provide developed camping on Chincoteague, close to the south entrance of Assateague Island National Seashore at the end of Route 175. Camping on Assateague Island itself is only available in the Maryland District; there is no camping in the Virginia section of the national seashore, so mainland and Chincoteague campgrounds serve as the base for visiting the Virginia end of the refuge.

Private campgrounds near Atlantic take reservations directly through their own websites or by phone, and most require a deposit at booking. Trails End Campground Resort, Sun Outdoors Chincoteague Bay, Tall Pines Harbor Waterfront Campground, Tom's Cove Park, and Jellystone Park Chincoteague Island each handle bookings on their own operator sites. For peak dates, especially Pony Penning week, holidays, and July weekends, reserve as early as the calendar opens. During summer and holidays, campsites around Chincoteague fill quickly, so travelers should book well ahead to get a spot. Waterfront sites are typically the first to sell out. The Assateague Island National Seashore campgrounds are on the Maryland end; there is no camping in the Virginia section, and reservations for the Maryland-side sites are made up to six months in advance through Recreation.gov.
