Campgrounds and RV parks near Bristol, VA

Bristol sits on the Virginia-Tennessee state line in the southern Appalachians, with the city split down State Street between the two states. The area combines short-track motorsports culture with mountain and lake recreation, and most RV campgrounds are clustered along the I-81 corridor and around South Holston Lake to the south. RV renters generally choose between two types of stays. Private parks near the speedway and the interstate offer full hookups, pull-through sites, and event-focused amenities, useful for race weekends or as a base for touring Abingdon and the Virginia Creeper Trail. Copperhead Ridge Glamping & RV Park, Shadrack Campground, Peaceful Valley Campground, Cherokee Trails Campground and Stables, and Appalachian Caverns Campground all fit this pattern and sit within a short drive of downtown Bristol. South of town, Cherokee National Forest surrounds South Holston Lake, a 7,580-acre TVA reservoir with shoreline camping, boat ramps, and hiking access. Federal campgrounds here are more rustic and typically non-electric, so they suit renters comfortable running on battery and fresh-water tanks.

Private RV parks in the Bristol area, including Shadrack Campground, Copperhead Ridge Glamping & RV Park, Peaceful Valley Campground, Cherokee Trails Campground and Stables, and Appalachian Caverns Campground, book directly through their own websites or by phone. For NASCAR race weekends in April and September, reserve as far ahead as possible; sites near the speedway commonly fill months out and some parks require multi-night minimums. Campgrounds inside Cherokee National Forest, such as Little Oak on South Holston Lake, book through Recreation.gov or 1-877-444-6777, with a rolling booking window of up to six months in advance. Virginia state parks in the region, including Natural Tunnel and Hungry Mother, book through the Virginia State Parks reservation system up to 11 months out.
