Campgrounds and RV parks near Pastoria, VA

Pastoria is a small community in Accomack County on Virginia's Eastern Shore, positioned between the Chesapeake Bay and the Atlantic. The area sits within easy driving range of Chincoteague Island and the Chincoteague National Wildlife Refuge, which protects beach, dune, marsh, and maritime forest habitats and is home to the wild Chincoteague ponies and the Assateague Lighthouse. RV travelers use Pastoria as a quieter base for exploring the barrier-island coast without staying on Chincoteague itself. Tall Pines Harbor Waterfront Campground and Sun Outdoors Chincoteague Bay sit on the mainland along Pocomoke Sound with bayfront sites, while Virginia Landing RV Campground offers oceanside access farther down the peninsula. Trails End Campground Resort provides a wooded inland option, and Tom's Cove Park places guests on Chincoteague Island near the refuge entrance. Most parks in the region cater to RVs with full hookups, dump stations, and bathhouses. The Eastern Shore stretches roughly 70 miles between the Chesapeake Bay and the Atlantic, so day trips from Pastoria can reach both bayside and oceanside beaches, working watermen's towns, and the NASA Wallops Flight Facility visitor center.

Private campgrounds around Pastoria, including Tall Pines Harbor Waterfront Campground, Sun Outdoors Chincoteague Bay, Trails End Campground Resort, Tom's Cove Park, and Virginia Landing RV Campground, are booked directly through each park's website or by phone. Availability and site types vary, and some parks require special reservation procedures for Pony Swim week along with multi-night minimums. Camping is not permitted inside the Chincoteague National Wildlife Refuge itself; refuge day-use passes and program reservations are handled through Recreation.gov. For summer weekends, especially in July, reserve as early as possible. Pony Swim week routinely sells out roughly a year ahead, and the refuge draws heavy visitation on holiday weekends and during spring and fall migration peaks.
