Camping near Allyn, Washington
Allyn sits on the North Bay of Case Inlet on Washington's Kitsap Peninsula, putting RV travelers within a short drive of Hood Canal's southern shoreline and the trail networks of Tahuya State Forest. The closest developed campground is Belfair State Park, a 94-acre year-round camping park on 3,720 feet of saltwater shoreline at the southern end of Hood Canal. The campground has 184 campsites in three loop areas, including 41 full hookup sites, one electric site, 17 standard sites, and about 120 tent sites, plus eight reservable cabins.
A second waterfront option, Twanoh State Park, is a 188-acre marine camping park on the south shore of Hood Canal near Union, built in the classic style of the Civilian Conservation Corps in the 1930s. The campground has 25 standard sites and 22 full hookup sites, with a maximum site length of 35 feet (limited availability).
West of Belfair, the Tahuya State Forest holds primitive DNR campgrounds at Kammenga Canyon Campground and the Elfendahl Pass Staging Area (Tahuya O RV Park), plus the private Tahuya Adventure Resort for travelers who want hookups closer to the trail system.
Things to do near Allyn
Hood Canal is the main draw. The saltwater beach at Twanoh is known as one of the warmest in Washington and is popular for swimming, and shellfish harvesting along the canal is a regional tradition. Clam, mussel, and oyster seasons are set by the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife and vary by beach, and a WDFW license is required.
Land-based recreation centers on Tahuya State Forest, which offers about 170 miles of multiple-use deep-woods trails for ORV, motorcycle, mountain bike, horse and hiking use, with the Elfendahl Pass Staging Area serving as a main trail hub. For a quieter outing, Twanoh has about 2.5 miles of forested trails along a creek. Belfair State Park adds beachcombing, kite flying, biking, a playground, and a large grassy field for kids.

Summer is the prime window. Long daylight, warmer Hood Canal water and dry weather draw heavy visitation from late June through early September, and waterfront state-park sites book up well in advance. Reservations open up to nine months ahead, and weekend dates at Belfair and Twanoh routinely sell out for the entire summer.
Shoulder seasons work well for RV travelers who want quieter campgrounds. Spring brings cool, damp trails and forest blooms; fall delivers chum salmon runs in local creeks and crisp hiking weather. Belfair stays open year-round, though some loops and amenities scale back outside the peak months.
Winter is wet and dark on the Kitsap Peninsula. Belfair is open year-round for camping with limited water service in winter, and the launch docks at Twanoh are removed for the season. In Tahuya State Forest, Kammenga Canyon is open for drive-in access only on weekends from Memorial Day through Labor Day, with non-motorized day-use access the rest of the year, while Elfendahl Pass Staging Area stays accessible year-round.

Don and his wife were great hosts! The RV was in great condition, ran well, and they were both easy to communicate with. We were happy to see they even provided amenities such as kitchen appliances, plates, utensils, chairs and a BBQ. We would definitely go through them on our next trip if the RV is available!

The Leggs were really great and we appreciated the supplies that were included. There were camp chairs and even an outdoor grill.

How to book campsites near Allyn
Belfair State Park and Twanoh State Park are reserved through Washington State Parks. Reservable facilities are available online or by calling the central reservation line, and bookings can typically be made up to nine months ahead of arrival. A Discover Pass is required for day-use parking at state parks.
Note that campsite reservations at Twanoh State Park are closed from June 1, 2026 through spring 2027 for a shoreline restoration project, so confirm status before planning a stay there.
The DNR campgrounds in Tahuya State Forest, including Kammenga Canyon Campground and Elfendahl Pass Staging Area, are first-come, first-served with self-registration. The camping stay limit is 5 consecutive days and 15 total days per calendar year, and a Discover Pass is required. Tahuya Adventure Resort takes reservations directly through the resort.
What to expect at campgrounds near Allyn
Expect a mix of developed waterfront state parks and rustic forest campgrounds. Belfair offers full hookups, flush toilets and hot showers, with sites split between the open Beach Loop, a year-round Main Loop, and a seasonal Tree Loop. Check-in is 2:30 p.m. and check-out is 1 p.m. Maximum site length is 60 feet (limited availability). Twanoh is more compact, with closely spaced sites under tall second-growth forest and a 35-foot site length cap.
The DNR campgrounds are different in character. Kammenga Canyon is a primarily motorized and rustic campground near the Tahuya River and Tahuya River Trail, with sites that can accommodate up to a 30-foot RV, though size may vary by site. Expect noise from off-road vehicles on busy weekends.
Leashed pets are welcome at the state parks and DNR sites. Cell service is patchy once you leave Highway 3.

Frequently asked questions about campgrounds near Allyn, WA
How much does it cost to rent an RV in Allyn, WA?
RV rental in Allyn is approachable for most budgets. Travel trailers typically run $90 to $160 per night, Class C motorhomes range from $175 to $275, and larger Class A rigs can reach $300 or more nightly. Shoulder seasons (April to May and September to October) are the sweet spot for cheap RV rental Allyn options, with prices often dropping versus peak July and August rates. You will also see add-ons like generators, camp chairs, and bedding kits priced separately. Tip: book mid-week for the best deals on weekend escapes to Hood Canal, and use the RVezy price filter to sort listings by your budget. Many Allyn-area hosts offer multi-night discounts for longer stays.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Allyn%2C%20WashingtonWhat license do I need to rent an RV in Allyn, Washington?
Good news: your regular driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in Allyn, WA. Washington State does not require a special RV license or Commercial Driver's License (CDL) for any RV on the RVezy platform, including big Class A motorhomes and fifth wheels. You'll just need to be 25 or older, and RVezy verifies your ID quickly through the platform during booking. Visiting from outside the US? Bring your home country license along with an International Driving Permit (IDP), which you can grab from your local auto association for under $25. Most first-time renters are surprised how straightforward the licensing side is, so you can focus on planning your Puget Sound adventure.
dol.wa.gov/driver-licenses-and-permitsWhat protection is included when I book an RV in Allyn?
Every RVezy booking in Allyn includes a renter protection plan plus 24/7 roadside assistance, so you can hit Highway 3 with confidence. The protection plan helps cover physical damage to the RV during your trip, giving you financial peace of mind without arranging your own coverage. During checkout, you choose your protection tier, so you control the level of coverage (not the host). Review the protection options carefully if you are planning to drive winding roads around the Olympic Peninsula or tow into forested campgrounds, where extra coverage adds extra calm. Full details are available on the RVezy insurance and protection page before you confirm your booking.
rvezy.com/insurance-and-protectionWhat if I need to cancel my Allyn RV rental?
Booking your Allyn RV trip is low-risk: RVezy (not individual hosts) sets the cancellation policy, and it includes a money-back grace period right after you book. That means if your plans shift soon after reservation, you are protected. Beyond the grace window, refunds depend on how far out you cancel and qualifying circumstances. You can review the full cancellation details on the RVezy Help Center before confirming. Tip: book early for August weekends when Hood Canal and Lake Cushman fill up fast, knowing flexibility is built in if life changes. The RVezy support team is also available to help if something unexpected comes up.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037736674-Understanding-the-cancellation-policy-for-guestsCan I bring my dog on an Allyn RV rental?
Absolutely, pet-friendly RV rental Allyn options are plentiful. Just use the Pet-Friendly filter on RVezy to instantly see hosts who welcome dogs (and sometimes cats). Many Allyn-area hosts are pet owners themselves and provide little extras like floor mats or outdoor tie-outs. Your pup will love the area too: Belfair State Park has shoreline trails dogs can explore on leash, and Twanoh State Park along Hood Canal is a favorite for off-leash-friendly forest walks on quieter weekdays. Pro tip: message the host before booking to confirm any pet fees and share your dog's size and breed. Bring a long leash for beach exploration since Washington State Parks require pets to stay leashed on developed grounds.
parks.wa.gov/know-before-you-go/rules-regulations/pets-parksCan the RV be delivered to my campsite near Allyn?
Yes, RV delivery Allyn is one of the most popular options on RVezy, especially for first-timers. Many hosts will drive the RV to your chosen campground, like Belfair State Park or a Lake Cushman area site, level it, hook up water and power, and walk you through everything before they leave. That means you can skip the stress of towing or driving a big rig through the winding roads around Mason County. Delivery fees usually depend on distance (Allyn to Belfair is about 6 miles, Allyn to Shelton is around 12 miles). Use the Delivery filter on RVezy to find hosts who offer this service. It is the easiest way to enjoy RV camping Allyn has to offer without ever touching the steering wheel.
parks.state.wa.us/487/BelfairHow far can I drive on an Allyn RV rental?
You have plenty of range for an epic Allyn RV trip. Most hosts include 100 to 150 free miles per night, with reasonable per-mile fees beyond that, and some listings offer RV rental with unlimited mileage (look for it in the listing details). From Allyn, you are well positioned: Olympic National Park's Staircase entrance is roughly 30 miles away, Seattle is about 60 miles north, Mount Rainier National Park is around 110 miles southeast, and the Pacific coast at Ocean Shores is roughly 90 miles west. Tip: if you are planning a longer loop around the Olympic Peninsula (about 330 miles), filter for unlimited-mileage listings or message hosts directly to discuss a flat mileage package. Always confirm the policy before you book.
nps.gov/olym/planyourvisit/directions.htmWhere are the best campgrounds near Allyn, WA?
You are spoiled for choice with the best campgrounds near Allyn. Belfair State Park (about 6 miles away) offers waterfront sites on Hood Canal with utility hookups and saltwater beach access. Twanoh State Park (around 15 miles) is a Hood Canal classic with forested sites and a swimming beach. Lake Cushman area campgrounds (about 30 miles) put you close to one of Washington's most scenic lakes. Jarrell Cove State Park on Harstine Island (about 15 miles) is a quieter, boat-friendly spot. Tip: Washington State Parks reservations open 9 months in advance via the official site, and summer weekends sell out fast, so set a calendar reminder.
parks.state.wa.us/When is the best time of year to rent an RV in Allyn?
July through September is the sweet spot for RV camping Allyn, with warm, dry days (typically 70 to 80 F) and classic Pacific Northwest summer sunshine. June can still be drizzly, and October brings fall colors with crisp 50 to 60 F days. Winter rentals are doable here too: Allyn's mild coastal climate (lows averaging in the mid-30s F) means you can enjoy quiet Hood Canal beaches and storm-watching without heavy snow concerns. Spring brings rhododendron blooms and fewer crowds. Tip: book August dates 4 to 6 months ahead, as Allyn sits in the partial rain shadow of the Olympics, making it a popular summer escape for locals.
weather.gov/sew/I've never rented an RV before. Is Allyn a good place to start?
Allyn is one of the friendliest spots in Washington for first time renting an RV. The roads are calm (no Seattle traffic chaos), distances to top campgrounds are short, and many local hosts specialize in welcoming beginners. Every host provides a hands-on walkthrough at pickup, covering the water system, propane, slide-outs, dump procedure, and driving tips, so you'll never feel left in the dark. If driving still feels intimidating, just choose a host who offers delivery and setup. Pro tip: start with a 2-night stay at Belfair State Park (just 10 minutes away), where you can practice hookups and systems before any longer adventure. Hosts are usually a quick text away during your trip, and RVezy support is 24/7.
parks.wa.gov/know-before-you-go/campingWhat happens if something goes wrong with the RV during my trip?
You are covered around the clock. Every RVezy booking includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the renter protection plan, so a flat tire on Highway 3 or a battery issue near Lake Cushman is just a phone call away. Your host is also a direct lifeline (most Allyn-area hosts are responsive and live locally in Mason or Kitsap County). For mechanical issues, mobile RV technicians serve the Olympic Peninsula and can typically reach the Allyn area within a few hours. Tip: save the RVezy support number, your host's number, and the nearest hospital's address (Mason General Hospital in Shelton, about 12 miles away) in your phone before you depart.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailCan I take my Allyn RV rental across state or country borders?
Yes, an RV road trip from Allyn opens up a lot of options. Many hosts allow travel throughout Washington, Oregon, and Idaho, and some allow trips into British Columbia, Canada, with advance approval. Crossing into Canada requires confirmation from your host and you will need your passport, vehicle registration, and a host-signed cross-border letter. Travel to Mexico is not permitted on RVezy rentals. Always message the host before booking to confirm your route. Tip: popular cross-border itineraries from Allyn include the Sea-to-Sky Highway up to Whistler and the Vancouver Island ferry loop via Port Angeles, both memorable Pacific Northwest experiences.
cbp.gov/travel/us-citizens/know-before-you-goWhat should I budget for fuel on an Allyn RV trip?
Fuel is one of the biggest variables, but here's a realistic picture. Most Class C motorhomes in the Allyn area average 8-12 MPG, Class A rigs run 6-10 MPG, and travel trailers will drop your tow vehicle to 10-14 MPG. Washington gas prices typically run higher than the national average ($4.20-$4.80/gallon recently), and diesel can be 30-50¢ more. For a 3-night trip around Hood Canal (roughly 200 miles total), budget $80-$150 in fuel. Pro tip: fill up in Shelton or Belfair before heading deeper into the Olympic Peninsula, where stations get sparse and prices climb. The Costco in Silverdale (20 miles north) is the regional fuel-cost champion if you have a membership.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book a campground near Allyn?
For summer weekends (mid-June through Labor Day), book 6 to 9 months ahead. Washington State Parks releases reservations 9 months out via the official reservation site, and prime spots at Belfair, Twanoh, and Jarrell Cove State Parks can disappear quickly. Federal sites in Olympic National Forest are bookable on Recreation.gov six months ahead. For shoulder seasons (April to May, September to October), 2 to 4 weeks of lead time usually works. Mid-week stays are far easier to score last minute. Tip: create your Washington State Parks reservation account ahead of time, save your vehicle and payment info, and set an alarm for the release window. Booking-day prep is the single biggest factor in landing a waterfront Hood Canal site.
washington.goingtocamp.com/What are driving conditions like around Allyn?
Driving around Allyn is refreshingly relaxed compared to the Seattle metro. State Route 3 is the main artery (two lanes, gentle curves, occasional slow tractors), and SR 106 along Hood Canal is one of the most scenic drives in Washington with manageable RV-friendly grades. Watch for fog in early mornings near the water and the occasional deer, especially at dusk. Heading west into the Olympics, US-101 has a few steeper climbs but nothing technical. Avoid downtown Seattle entirely in a big RV (low bridges, tight streets). Pro tip: the Tacoma Narrows Bridge toll (about $7 eastbound) catches RVers off guard if you're heading toward I-5; download the Good To Go app or pay online within 80 hours to avoid extra fees.
wsdot.wa.gov/travel/real-time/mapWhat amenities can I expect at campgrounds near Allyn?
Most campgrounds near Allyn are well-equipped for a comfortable stay. Belfair State Park has utility sites with water and electric, hot showers, and a dump station. Twanoh State Park offers utility sites and a dump station. Lake Cushman area campgrounds typically have hookups and small camp stores. For dispersed Olympic National Forest sites, expect vault toilets and no hookups (true PNW camping). Low-cost dump stations are available at most state parks for non-campers. Tip: fill your fresh water tank in Allyn or Belfair before heading deep into the Olympics, as potable water gets harder to find past Hoodsport.
parks.state.wa.us/487/BelfairWhat's inside a typical RV rental in Allyn?
Allyn-area RV rentals come remarkably well-stocked. Expect a real bed (queen or king in larger rigs, plus convertible dinettes and bunks), a working kitchen with fridge, stove, microwave, and often an oven, and a full bathroom with shower and toilet. Most Class C and Class A rentals include a TV, some with rooftop antennas for local channels, and many travel trailers now offer solar-charged batteries. Wi-Fi isn't usually built-in (signal is spotty around Hood Canal anyway), but Verizon and T-Mobile work well in Allyn proper. Generators are standard in Class A/C rigs, and seatbelts are installed for all designated travel seats. Pro tip: confirm sleeping capacity with seatbelt count if you're traveling with kids, as legal travel seats are often fewer than sleeping spots.
nhtsa.gov/road-safety/child-safetyWhat add-ons and pickup options can I expect when I rent an RV in Allyn?
Hosts in the Allyn area offer a great range of add-ons to customize your trip: bedding and linen packages ($30-$60), kitchen kits ($20-$40), camp chairs and tables ($10-$25), portable BBQs, kayaks and SUPs (perfect for Case Inlet), generators ($15-$30/day), and even bikes. For pickup, most hosts are based within 15 miles of Allyn (Belfair, Shelton, Bremerton), and many offer delivery to campgrounds or your home. Mileage policies usually run 100-150 free miles per night, with $0.30-$0.45 per additional mile. Pro tip: if you're planning a Hood Canal kayaking weekend, filter for hosts who include paddle gear; it can save you $200+ versus renting separately and means everything is loaded and ready when you arrive.
parks.wa.gov/find-parks/recreation/water-recreationHow do payments and security deposits work for an Allyn RV rental?
Payment is simple and secure: RVezy handles everything through the platform, so you never exchange cash or wire money to a host. You pay at booking through RVezy's secure checkout. A refundable security deposit (typically several hundred to a couple thousand dollars depending on the RV class) is pre-authorized on your card before pickup, not actually charged. As long as you return the RV in the same condition, the hold is released after dropoff. Tip: do a thorough walk-through with your host at both pickup and return and take date-stamped photos of the exterior and interior to help avoid any deposit disputes.
