Campgrounds near Brewster, Washington
Brewster sits at the confluence of the Columbia and Okanogan Rivers in north-central Washington, in high-desert country where the eastern Cascades give way to the Columbia Plateau. RV travelers use the town as a base for camping along the Columbia, Rufus Woods Lake, and the smaller trout lakes tucked into the surrounding Loup Loup and Loomis State Forests.
The closest developed option is Bridgeport State Park, a 622-acre camping park with 7,500 feet of freshwater shoreline on Rufus Woods Lake, tucked behind Chief Joseph Dam. A short drive north lands campers at Alta Lake State Park, a camping and day-use park where mountainous pine forests meet the desert, with a 2-mile-long lake that offers trout fishing, water skiing and windsurfing during the summer months.
More rustic sites lie farther out. Leader Lake, in the Loup Loup State Forest, is reached from the junction with US Highway 97 at Okanogan by going west on SR-20 for 8.4 miles, then right on Leader Lake Road for .4 miles. Black Canyon Sno-Park and Sportsmans Camp, both DNR sites, round out the primitive options.
Things to do around Brewster
Water recreation dominates. The Columbia River and Chief Joseph Dam offer opportunities for fishing and boating, and Bridgeport State Park is home to four miles of hiking trails, 240 feet of dock, two launch pads for boats, and wildlife to watch. Fishing licenses matter here: shore fishing requires a Colville Tribe fishing license in addition to a state license if fishing off of state park property, and tribal licenses can be purchased at the park or in the cities of Bridgeport or Brewster.
At Alta Lake State Park, families swim, paddle, and fish, and the adjacent Alta Lake Golf Course is open to campers. Leader Lake holds a diverse population of spiny rays (bass, bluegills, crappie, yellow perch) and rainbow trout, with trout in the 11 to 14 inch range in late spring and early summer.
The town of Winthrop and Lake Chelan are both within roughly a 30- to 45-minute drive for day trips.

December - February
32° / 19°F 30 mmCold and snowy; Alta Lake closed, Bridgeport open year-round
The camping calendar splits sharply by park. Alta Lake State Park keeps summer hours of 6:30 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. and is closed November 1 through March 30, with the park open April through October. Bridgeport State Park, by contrast, operates year-round, though campsites are reservable May 15 through September 15, with first-come, first-served camping available outside the reservation window.
DNR sites follow their own rhythm. Leader Lake, near Okanogan, is now open year round, though the road in can be rough in winter. Wildfire is the dominant summer concern in Okanogan County: wildfire season brings burn restrictions, approximately 85 percent of Washington's wildfires are caused by people, and visitors should check park alerts and burn restrictions before lighting any fires. Level 1 burn bans are common, limiting campfires to designated fire pits and grills.
Spring brings wildflowers and cool nights, fall brings larch color in the higher forests, and summer weekends fill fastest along the Columbia.
How to book a site near Brewster
Washington State Parks manages reservations for Bridgeport and Alta Lake through its central booking system. Reservations for Alta Lake State Park can be made online through the Washington State Parks reservation system, and reservations can be booked up to 9 months in advance. For Bridgeport, note the May 15 to September 15 reservation window; outside that, sites are first-come, first-served.
Leader Lake operates on a first-come, first-served basis with no advance reservations available, as do Black Canyon Sno-Park and Sportsmans Camp. Arrive early on Friday afternoons in summer to secure a spot.
A Washington Discover Pass is required for vehicle access, and camping at DNR campgrounds like Leader Lake is free with the pass. Confirm RV length limits before booking: maximum site length at Bridgeport is 45 feet, and Alta Lake sites accommodate RVs up to 38 feet.
What to expect on arrival
Expect a high-desert setting with intense sun, limited shade outside of maintained lawns, and warm river or lake water in summer. Bridgeport State Park has 34 sites including 14 tent spaces and 20 utility sites with hookups, all situated on the signature 18-acre lawn, while Alta Lake has 115 campsites (32 with full hookups), accommodating tents, trailers and RVs up to 38 feet, with each site including a table, fire ring and grill.
DNR sites are primitive. Leader Lake has 14 primitive campsites, each equipped with a picnic table, fire ring, and grill, plus drinking water and vault toilets. Cell service is spotty at the more remote sites, and afternoon winds off the water can be strong.
Black bear, mule deer, and rattlesnake are all part of the local wildlife, so food storage and awareness matter, especially at forested sites.

Every RVezy booking in Brewster automatically includes a renter protection plan plus 24/7 roadside assistance, so you can head out on Highway 97 with real peace of mind. During checkout you'll choose your coverage tier based on how much extra cushion you want. Roadside assistance is included with every protection plan, covering things like tire issues, lockouts, and tows. If you're heading toward the twistier roads near the Methow Valley or planning a longer Washington RV trip, the higher-tier plans are worth considering.

You can book with confidence in Brewster because RVezy sets the cancellation policy, not individual hosts, so the rules are consistent across every listing. There's a money-back grace period right after booking, and the further out you cancel from your trip start date, the more flexible the refund. If a host cancels on you, RVezy will refund your booking or help you rebook with a credit, which matters in north-central Washington where wildfire smoke, US-97 closures, or sudden winter weather can sometimes affect plans. The full cancellation terms are shown during checkout before you pay. If your plans feel uncertain, message the host first to talk through date flexibility before booking.

Yes, pet-friendly RV rental in Brewster is one of the most common requests on RVezy. Use the Pet-Friendly filter on the search page and you'll see plenty of listings where dogs (and sometimes cats) are welcome. Brewster is a great dog destination: Columbia Cove Park along the waterfront has open lawns perfect for stretching paws, Bridgeport State Park just up the road offers easy on-leash walks, and the shoreline of Lake Pateros gives water-loving dogs room to splash. Most hosts ask that you keep pets off furniture and clean up after them. Message your host about any pet fee, and bring a portable water bowl since Okanogan summer heat can be intense.
parks.wa.gov/learn-discover/rules-policies/pets-state-parksCan the RV be delivered to my Brewster campsite?
Yes, RV delivery in Brewster is one of the easiest ways to start your trip stress-free. Many RVezy hosts in the Okanogan and Lake Chelan area will drive the RV to your campsite, vacation rental, or a spot like Columbia Cove RV Park, level it, hook up water and power, and walk you through every system before they leave. This is perfect if you're flying into Pangborn Memorial Airport in Wenatchee (about 75 miles south) or if you simply don't want to drive a large rig your first time out. Use the Delivery filter on RVezy and message hosts directly to confirm distance, fees, and setup details for your destination.
