Campgrounds near Burley, Washington
Burley sits on the Kitsap Peninsula in western Washington, between Gig Harbor and Port Orchard on the southern shore of Puget Sound. The area works as a practical base for RV travelers: state park campgrounds, DNR-managed forest sites, and private RV resorts are all within a short drive, and most are reachable without a ferry crossing via SR-16 and the Tacoma Narrows Bridge.
Closest to town, Gig Harbor RV Resort offers a private, full-service option. Public campgrounds in the immediate area include Manchester State Park on Rich Passage and Illahee State Park on Port Orchard Bay, both managed by Washington State Parks. Penrose Point State Park, on the Key Peninsula across Carr Inlet, adds another saltwater option with a large wooded campground.
For a more rustic, equestrian-friendly experience, Green Mountain Horse Camp - Department of Natural Resources sits in the Green Mountain State Forest west of Bremerton. Together these sites cover the full range from hookup RV resorts to first-come, first-served forest camps.
Things to do near Burley
Saltwater shoreline defines most trips here. Manchester State Park preserves a former coastal artillery site with a historic brick torpedo warehouse and remnants of Battery Mitchell, plus beach access on Rich Passage. Illahee State Park has a 356-foot moorage dock, a fishing pier, and the last stand of old-growth timber in Kitsap County, including some of the largest Pacific yew trees in the country.
Penrose Point State Park offers nearly two miles of saltwater frontage on Mayo Cove and Carr Inlet, with clamming, oystering, and crabbing subject to seasonal regulations. Inland, the Green Mountain State Forest carries a multi-use trail network used by hikers, mountain bikers, equestrians, and motorized riders, with summit views of Puget Sound, Seattle, and Mount Rainier on clear days.

We had such a great weekend camping in the Memory Maker! Danielle has thought of everything when it comes to making life easy while you are “roughing it”. We felt cozy and comfortable sleeping as a family of 5. It was easy to pull behind our Tahoe as well. Great experience all around, we already have our next trip booked!
Phil G. - Aug 2025

How to book a campsite
Washington State Parks sites, including Manchester, Illahee, and Penrose Point, are booked through the state's central reservation system at washington.goingtocamp.com or by phone at 888-226-7688. Reservations open up to nine months in advance, and summer weekends at all three parks fill quickly once the booking window opens.
Green Mountain Horse Camp - Department of Natural Resources does not take reservations. Sites are first-come, first-served, and a Discover Pass is required for vehicle access to Washington State Parks and most DNR recreation lands. Gig Harbor RV Resort and other private parks book directly through their own websites or phone lines.
If preferred dates are sold out, cancellation-alert services scan for openings, and midweek arrivals usually find more availability than Friday or Saturday check-ins.
What to expect on arrival
Most state park sites in the area are wooded, with paved or gravel pads under mature fir, cedar, and maple. Hookups are limited: Manchester State Park has 15 partial-hookup sites and accommodates RVs up to 60 feet on some sites, while Penrose Point has no electric hookups and a 35-foot length limit on most sites with narrow, winding interior roads. Illahee has one full-hookup site and 23 standard sites, with most accommodating RVs in the 20 to 30 foot range.
Check-in at the state parks is typically 2:30 p.m. with checkout at 1 p.m. Tree cover is dense, so satellite reception and solar charging can be limited. Coin- or token-operated showers are standard. Burn bans are common in summer; gas and propane stoves are usually allowed even when wood and charcoal fires are not.

Hard to beat that for a stress-free Burley RV trip.

rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Burley%2C%20WashingtonWhere are the best campgrounds near Burley, WA?
You are spoiled for choice. Manchester State Park (about 20 minutes north) offers wooded sites overlooking Puget Sound with shoreline trails. Belfair State Park (around 25 minutes west) has full-hookup sites along Hood Canal and is well known for its tidal saltwater swimming area. Penrose Point State Park (about 30 minutes south on the Key Peninsula) is quieter, with beach access and standard sites. Illahee State Park near Bremerton offers waterfront sites just 30 minutes away. Book Washington State Parks through the official reservation system up to nine months in advance, especially for summer weekends. Tip: midweek arrivals in June often score the best waterfront spots.
washington.goingtocamp.com/When is the best time of year for a Burley RV trip?
July through early September is the sweet spot. Burley sits in the rain shadow of the Olympics, so summers are typically dry with highs in the mid-70s°F and cool 50s°F nights, comfortable for sleeping in an RV. Late May and June bring lush green scenery and fewer crowds, with daytime temps in the 60s°F. October ushers in fall colors and storm-watching season on the coast, with frequent rain but cozy RV vibes. Winters are mild (40s°F) but wet and dark, so most renters target May through September. Tip: book your July 4th week trip by March, since Kitsap-area campgrounds fill fast.
weather.gov/sew/I've never driven an RV before. Will I be okay starting in Burley?
You have picked a great launchpad. Burley sits on quiet rural roads off Highway 16, so you can ease into driving without the chaos of Seattle traffic. Every RVezy host gives you a full walkthrough at pickup, covering propane, slide-outs, water systems, and tank dumping, and you can text them with questions throughout your trip. For your first time renting an RV, start with a travel trailer if you are comfortable towing, or pick a Class C motorhome (drives like a big truck). Practice a few right turns and backups in a quiet lot before heading to your campground. Within an hour, most first-timers feel surprisingly confident.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/categories/360002448713-For-RentersWhat happens if something goes wrong with the RV during my trip?
You are never on your own. Every RV rental in Burley booked through RVezy includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the protection plan, so a dead battery on the Southworth ferry line or a flat tire on Highway 302 is one phone call away from being handled. For non-emergency questions (how does the awning retract, why won't the fridge cool), message your host directly through the app; most Kitsap-area hosts respond within minutes. RVezy customer support is also available before, during, and after your trip. Tip: snap photos of every system during your pickup walkthrough so you have a quick reference if anything acts up later.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat are the best road trip destinations from Burley, WA?
Burley's location on the Kitsap Peninsula puts you within easy reach of legendary Pacific Northwest destinations. Olympic National Park's Hurricane Ridge is about 2.5 hours northwest, with alpine meadows and big-mountain views. Mount Rainier's Paradise area is around 2 hours southeast, with glaciers and wildflowers. Pacific Coast beaches at Kalaloch are about 3 hours west for storm-watching and tide pools. Closer to home, Port Townsend (Victorian seaport vibes) is roughly 90 minutes north. An RV road trip from Burley to the San Juan Islands is doable with a drive to Anacortes plus a ferry. Note: cross-border trips into Canada may be allowed by some hosts; message the host first to confirm.
nps.gov/olym/index.htmWhat should I budget for fuel on a Burley RV trip?
Washington gas prices are typically among the higher in the country, so fuel is a real part of your budget but very manageable with smart planning. Travel trailers don't burn extra fuel themselves (your tow vehicle does the work), and a Class C motorhome averages 8 to 12 MPG, while a Class B campervan rental that Burley travelers love can hit 16 to 20 MPG. For a 3-night trip staying at Manchester State Park (short round trip), you will spend very little on gas. A bigger loop to Mount Rainier and back from Burley (roughly 200 miles) often runs $80 to $150 in a Class C depending on current prices. Tip: fill up in Port Orchard or Gorst before heading out, where prices tend to beat in-park stations.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far ahead should I book campgrounds near Burley?
For summer weekends, book as early as you can. Washington State Parks open reservations up to nine months in advance through the official Washington State Parks reservation portal, and waterfront sites at Belfair, Manchester, and Penrose Point often fully book within hours for July and August. Weekdays and shoulder-season trips (May, September, October) are much easier and can often be grabbed two to four weeks out. Private RV parks in Port Orchard and Gig Harbor are usually more flexible. Tip: if everything looks booked, check the reservation site again midweek, when cancellations are sometimes released. Plenty of last-minute RV camping Burley adventures are made possible by that small habit.
washington.goingtocamp.com/What are driving conditions like around Burley, WA?
Driving around Burley is refreshingly easy: it is a small unincorporated community on the south end of the Kitsap Peninsula, with rural two-lane roads and SR-16 connecting you to Tacoma (via the Tacoma Narrows Bridge) and Bremerton. The Tacoma Narrows Bridge has a toll for eastbound (southbound) travel, so factor that into your budget. Winter brings rain and occasional wind, especially November through February, so check WSDOT cameras before crossing the Hood Canal Bridge. Avoid taking large Class A RVs through downtown Gig Harbor's narrow waterfront streets; stick to SR-16. Tip: ferry travel from Southworth (about 15 minutes north) to Seattle is RV-friendly and a fun way to skip I-5 traffic.
wsdot.wa.gov/travel/real-time/mapWhat amenities will I find at campgrounds near Burley?
You will find well-equipped campgrounds throughout Kitsap and the Olympic Peninsula. Belfair State Park offers utility (water and electric) sites plus showers, a dump station, and potable water. Manchester State Park has standard sites with restrooms and a dump station but no individual hookups, so a self-contained RV works best there. Penrose Point and Illahee both have dump stations and potable water. For dumping between trips, private RV parks around Gig Harbor and Port Orchard can be convenient options. Tip: arrive with fresh water tanks topped off if you are heading to Manchester, since hookup sites are not available. Most local campgrounds welcome generators during daytime quiet-hours windows only.
parks.wa.gov/find-parks/state-parks/belfair-state-parkWhat's included inside a typical RV rental in Burley?
You are getting a home on wheels. Most RV rentals in Burley come fully equipped with sleeping for 4 to 8 (queen beds, bunks, convertible dinettes), a kitchen with stove, microwave, fridge, and basic cookware, a bathroom with toilet and shower, climate control (furnace plus roof AC), and seatbelts for every passenger you are booking for. Many hosts include linens, towels, camp chairs, and outdoor mats; some offer a generator for off-grid trips or Wi-Fi hotspots for staying connected. Check the listing's amenities list before booking, and message the host to confirm specifics (coffee maker, TV with streaming, etc.). Tip: ask hosts about their delivery and setup options if you want a truly hands-off trip.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Burley%2C%20WashingtonWhat add-ons and pickup options are available for RV rental Washington trips from Burley?
Hosts offer plenty of extras to customize your trip. Popular add-ons include bedding and towel packages, camp chair and table kits, bike racks, kayak and SUP rentals, generators, Wi-Fi hotspots, and pet packages. Pickup is typically at the host's home in Burley, Port Orchard, or Gig Harbor; many hosts hand over keys in the early afternoon and ask for return by late morning. Mileage policies are clearly shown on each listing, often 100 to 150 free miles per day. Tip: if you want a hands-off family RV trip in Burley, book delivery plus a bedding package and skip the hassle entirely. Just bring food and sunscreen.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Burley%2C%20WashingtonHow does payment and the security deposit work when I rent an RV in Burley?
Payment is simple and secure. You pay through RVezy at the time of booking using a credit or debit card, and your money is held safely until your trip starts (so hosts only get paid after you have picked up the RV). A refundable security deposit is placed on your card a few days before pickup, typically a few hundred to a couple thousand dollars depending on the rig. As long as you return the RV in the same condition with tanks empty and fuel topped off, the hold is released within a few days of trip end. Tip: snap a quick video walkaround at pickup and dropoff. It is the easiest way to keep your full deposit and avoid any surprises.
