Campgrounds and RV parks near Chewelah, WA

Lake recreation drives most summer trips. Silver Beach Resort, Winona Beach Resort, and Waitts Lake RV Resort all offer direct access to Waitts Lake for swimming, boating, and trout fishing, and Deer Lake Resort opens onto a deep lake known for kokanee, mackinaw, and rainbow trout. Anglers also head west to Lake Roosevelt on the Columbia River, which holds walleye, kokanee, and rainbow trout. On land, 49 Degrees North Mountain Resort east of town offers hiking and mountain biking on ski-area service roads in summer, with downhill skiing and snowboarding in winter. Golfers can stay and play at Chewelah Golf and Country Club, which has 27 holes. Day trips reach Mount Spokane State Park to the south for hiking and mountain biking, and the surrounding Colville National Forest for forest-road exploring and dispersed camping.

Chewelah has a warm-summer continental climate with cold, snowy winters and short, dry, warm summers. The wettest months run from November through January, and snow typically begins in November and ends by March, with December bringing the heaviest snowfall. Most private RV resorts on Waitts Lake and Deer Lake operate on a seasonal schedule, generally opening in spring and closing in fall once nights turn cold and water lines are shut down. Memorial Day through Labor Day is the peak window for lakeside sites, and summer weekends fill weeks in advance at the most popular waterfront spots. Spring weather is variable: April and May can still bring measurable rain and even late snow at higher elevations like 49 Degrees North. Late summer brings wildfire risk across northeastern Washington. Burn bans and air-quality advisories are common from July through early September, and travelers should check current restrictions before lighting campfires.

Expect a quieter, small-town pace than the busier corridors around Spokane or Coeur d'Alene. Cell coverage along US-395 in the valley is generally reliable, but drops quickly on side roads into the Huckleberry and Selkirk foothills. Stock up on groceries and propane in Chewelah, Colville, or Deer Park, since smaller lake communities have limited services. Most lakeside RV resorts offer full hookups, but site spacing varies, and some older waterfront parks have tight interior roads better suited to mid-size rigs than large fifth-wheels. Bring layers year-round: summer days can climb into the 80s while nights at lake elevation often drop into the 40s. A Discover Pass is required to park at Washington State Parks day-use areas, though it is not needed when a registered camping permit is displayed on the dashboard.
