Campgrounds and RV parks near Colville, WA

The Colville National Forest anchors most trip planning, with hundreds of miles of trails for hiking, mountain biking, and horseback riding, plus lakes and rivers for fishing and paddling. Sherman Pass Scenic Byway, the highest maintained pass in Washington, crosses the forest on State Route 20 and links Colville with Republic. Wildlife viewing is a common draw, with moose, deer, black bear, osprey, and bald eagles regularly seen in the region. Rocky Lake is a good pick for canoeing and lake kayaking on calm water, while the Little Pend Oreille Trail System near Sherry Creek offers roughly 78 miles of routes used by ORV riders. Winter visitors head to 49 Degrees North Mountain Resort near Chewelah for downhill skiing and cross-country trails, with mountain-bike routes in warmer months.

Peak camping season around Colville runs from late spring through early fall, and most DNR and Forest Service campgrounds operate on this window. Rocky Lake typically sees use from late April through October, matching the WDFW fishing season on the lake. July and August bring the warmest, driest, and sunniest conditions, with clear skies a large share of the time and daytime highs commonly in the 80s. Spring is wetter than summer. Northeastern Washington receives more spring precipitation than the western side of the state, and rainfall stays relatively steady from March through June. Snowmelt on gravel access roads can make shoulder-season arrivals messy. Late spring and early September are quieter alternatives with mild weather. Fall brings cool nights, changing larch color, and hunting activity across state forest lands. Winter closes most campgrounds; snow typically falls from November through March, and higher-elevation Forest Service sites are inaccessible. Wildfire and smoke are ongoing summer risks in this lightning-prone corner of the state, and active fires have closed Flodelle Creek Campground and nearby DNR roads and trails in recent seasons.

Most public campgrounds in the Colville area are rustic. DNR sites typically provide picnic tables, fire rings, and vault toilets, but no potable water and no hookups, so RVs need to arrive with full fresh-water tanks and use a generator or solar for power. Trailer length limits vary by site: DNR lists Rocky Lake and Flodelle Creek at about 26 feet, while Sherry Creek accommodates up to a 35-foot trailer, though the specific site can be shorter. Access roads are often narrow, single-lane gravel with limited pull-outs, which matters for larger rigs. Cell service is spotty across the forest and DNR lands, and some campgrounds have no reception at all. Black bears and cougars are present, so food storage and standard bear-country practices apply. For full hookups, showers, and laundry, private parks near Kettle Falls and Chewelah are the more practical choice.
