Campgrounds near Dash Point
Dash Point sits on Puget Sound in western Washington, straddling the King County and Pierce County line between Federal Way and Tacoma. The shoreline is the main draw for RV travelers: sandy beaches, tide pools, and forested bluffs are all within a short drive of Interstate 5 and State Route 509.
The anchor campground is Dash Point State Park, a 461-acre park with more than 3,300 feet of saltwater shoreline whose campground accommodates RVs and combinations up to 32 feet. Just up the shoreline in Des Moines, Saltwater State Park is a 137-acre day-use destination on Puget Sound, though its campground is currently closed while the agency studies flooding and erosion impacts. Both parks are run by Washington State Parks and require a Discover Pass for day-use parking.
Across the Tacoma Narrows, Majestic Manor RV Park and Gig Harbor RV Resort provide full-hookup private-park alternatives, while Manchester State Park sits on the Kitsap Peninsula across the Sound.
Things to do around Dash Point
The beach is the focus. Dash Point State Park is known for its vast sand flats at low tide, with skimboarding, kite flying, and beachcombing for driftwood and shells. Plans tend to follow the tide chart: low water for tidepooling and skimboards, higher water for kayaks and paddleboards.
Saltwater State Park adds tide pools, a seasonal salmon run in McSorley Creek, and Puget Sound's only state-park underwater artificial reef, popular with scuba divers. Both parks have forested trail networks, with about 11 miles of hiking trails and 8 miles of mountain biking paths inside Dash Point State Park.
Off the water, Tacoma's Point Defiance Zoo and Aquarium, the Museum of Glass, and the shops at Gig Harbor are all within roughly 30 minutes by RV.

Summer is the prime season. Skies dry out from late June through early September, daytime highs sit comfortably in the 70s Fahrenheit, and the beach scene at Dash Point State Park peaks. Weekends and holidays book out fastest, and the Washington State Parks system opens reservations up to nine months ahead, so popular sites for July and August are typically taken weeks in advance.
Shoulder months in spring and fall bring cooler temperatures, more rain, and easier site availability. The Dash Point State Park campground stays open year round, while the Saltwater State Park campground is currently closed and not accepting reservations during ongoing planning and repair work.
Winter is the wettest stretch, with frequent rain, short daylight hours, and overnight lows often near freezing. Snow is uncommon at sea level but possible, and some private parks reduce services. RVers planning winter trips should pack for cold, damp conditions and verify that water service and dump stations are operational.

We had such a great weekend camping in the Memory Maker! Danielle has thought of everything when it comes to making life easy while you are “roughing it”. We felt cozy and comfortable sleeping as a family of 5. It was easy to pull behind our Tahoe as well. Great experience all around, we already have our next trip booked!
Phil G. - Aug 2025
Danielle is a great host! The trailer was wonderfully laid out and perfect for a family of four. It was very clean and everything worked perfectly! Our family had a great time and would definitely rent from Danielle again!

How to book a campsite near Dash Point
Dash Point State Park and Manchester State Park use the Washington State Parks reservation system at washington.goingtocamp.com or by phone at 888-226-7688. Reservations open up to nine months in advance, and same-day online bookings are now available until 2 p.m. on the arrival date at all reservable state-park campgrounds. A Discover Pass is required for day-use vehicle access and is included with overnight camping.
Saltwater State Park is currently not taking camping reservations while the park undergoes planning and development work. Private parks such as Majestic Manor RV Park and Gig Harbor RV Resort take reservations directly through their own websites and phones, and typically offer full hookups and fewer length restrictions than the state parks.
For peak-season weekends, book several months out.
What to expect at Dash Point campgrounds
Dash Point State Park has 114 standard campsites, 27 utility sites with hookups, a dump station, four restrooms, and six showers, all set in a forested area a short walk or drive from the beach. The park's stated maximum RV length is 32 feet, so larger rigs should look to nearby private parks instead.
Saltwater State Park is a day-use destination at present, with sandy beach, picnic shelters, tide pools, and the underwater reef still open. Wood fires are not permitted in the campground area, and the park lies under the SeaTac Airport flight path, so expect overhead aircraft noise.
Private parks on the Gig Harbor side trade forest cover for full hookups, pull-throughs, and longer sites. Groceries, fuel, and propane are available within a few miles of every campground listed.

How much does it cost to rent an RV in Dash Point, WA?
Great news: an RV rental in Dash Point is one of the more affordable ways to experience Puget Sound. On RVezy, travel trailers typically start around $90 to $150 per night, Class C motorhomes run roughly $175 to $275 per night, and luxury Class A coaches go higher depending on size and season. Pair that with Dash Point State Park's $40 to $50 nightly utility site fee and you're camping waterfront for far less than a Seattle hotel. To score a cheap RV rental in Dash Point, book midweek, target shoulder months like May or late September, and filter for hosts offering unlimited mileage so you can explore Tacoma and Seattle freely.
parks.wa.gov/find-parks/state-parks/dash-point-state-parkWhat license do I need to rent an RV in Dash Point?
Good news for your Dash Point RV trip: a regular driver's license is all you need. Washington State does not require a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) or any special endorsement for personal-use motorhomes and trailers, no matter the size of the rig you book on RVezy. You'll need to be at least 25 years old, and ID verification happens right inside the RVezy app, so there's no extra paperwork at pickup. Visiting from outside the US? Bring your home-country license plus an International Driving Permit (IDP) from your local auto club. Most first-timers are surprised how simple it is to legally drive a motorhome rental in Dash Point.
dol.wa.gov/driver-licenses-and-permits/get-driver-license/commercial-driver-licenseIs my RV rental protected if something goes wrong on a Puget Sound trip?
Absolutely. Every RV rental in Dash Point booked through RVezy includes a renter protection plan plus 24/7 roadside assistance built right into your reservation. The protection plan helps cover damage to the vehicle, giving you real financial peace of mind whether you are navigating the I-5 corridor or backing into a tight site at Dash Point State Park. During checkout you choose from different protection tiers, so you can dial up the coverage that fits your trip. Hosts do not pick this for you, you do, so you are always in control. Combined with host walkthroughs at pickup, it is a reassuring way to try RV life in Dash Point.

Booking your Dash Point RV trip is low risk. RVezy sets the cancellation policy for every reservation (hosts do not), and the exact refund depends on how far in advance you cancel relative to your trip start date. Full details are outlined in the RVezy Help Center so you know exactly what to expect before you book. If your plans change, contact RVezy support through the app and the team will walk you through your options. If a host cancels on you, RVezy refunds your booking or helps you rebook. That flexibility makes it easy to lock in your dates now and finalize details as your Dash Point RV trip gets closer.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037736674-Understanding-the-cancellation-policy-for-guestsCan I bring my dog on an RV rental in Dash Point?
Yes, Dash Point is a fantastic stop for dog owners. Plenty of hosts offer pet-friendly RV rentals in Dash Point, and you can find them quickly by toggling the Pet-Friendly filter on RVezy. Dash Point State Park welcomes leashed dogs on its 11 miles of forest trails and along the 3,301 feet of saltwater beach, and the nearby French Lake Off-Leash Dog Park in Federal Way is a great pre-trip energy burner. Just message the host before booking to confirm any size or breed notes and ask about pet cleaning fees. Pro tip: pack a towel for sandy paws after low-tide beach romps.
parks.wa.gov/find-parks/state-parks/dash-point-state-parkCan my RV be delivered to Dash Point State Park?
Yes, and it's the easiest way to start your Dash Point RV trip. Many RVezy hosts offer RV delivery in Dash Point straight to your campsite at Dash Point State Park, where they'll level the rig, connect the 30-amp hookups, water, and sewer, and walk you through every system before they leave. That's a huge win if it's your first time renting an RV, or if you'd rather skip driving a 30-foot motorhome through Federal Way traffic. Use the Delivery filter when searching, and message the host with your site number once you've reserved through Washington State Parks. Show up, unpack, and head straight to the beach.
parks.wa.gov/find-parks/state-parks/dash-point-state-parkHow far can I drive from Dash Point on a typical RV rental?
You have plenty of range for an RV road trip from Dash Point. Many hosts include 100 to 150 free miles per night, and some listings offer unlimited mileage, which is ideal for longer loops. From Dash Point, Seattle is about 25 miles north, Tacoma is roughly 10 miles south, Mount Rainier National Park is around 75 miles southeast, Olympic National Park"s Hurricane Ridge is about 130 miles via the Bainbridge or Bremerton ferry, and the North Cascades are roughly 150 miles north. If you are planning a bigger trip, filter for RV rental with unlimited mileage on RVezy so you never have to watch the odometer.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Dash%20Point%2C%20WashingtonWhere should I stay in my RV near Dash Point?
You're spoiled for choice. Dash Point State Park itself offers 27 full-hookup utility sites with 50-amp service for RVs up to about 32 to 40 feet, right on Puget Sound. Saltwater State Park, 10 miles north in Des Moines, has 47 wooded sites along McSorley Creek. Majestic Manor RV Park in Milton (10 minutes south) offers full hookups and is big-rig friendly year-round. Kopachuck State Park near Gig Harbor and Illahee State Park across the sound add more saltwater options for RV camping in Dash Point's neighborhood. Pro tip: Washington State Parks reservations open 9 months in advance, so set a calendar reminder for popular summer weekends.
parks.wa.gov/find-parks/state-parks/saltwater-state-parkWhen is the best time of year to take an RV trip from Dash Point?
Late June through mid-September is the sweet spot for a Dash Point RV trip. Summer highs sit comfortably in the mid-70s, July averages less than half an inch of rain, and Puget Sound sunsets stretch past 9 p.m. May and late September are excellent shoulder seasons with mild 60s temperatures, smaller crowds, and lower nightly rates. October through April brings cooler 40s to low 50s and frequent rain, but Dash Point State Park stays open year-round and storm watching from a warm RV is a legitimate Pacific Northwest pastime. Book July weekends 4 to 6 months ahead because demand peaks fast.
weather.gov/sew/I've never rented an RV before. Will I be okay driving around Dash Point?
You'll do great, and you won't be on your own. Every RVezy host provides a full walkthrough at pickup covering driving, leveling, hookups, propane, and the holding tanks, so first time renting an RV here feels totally manageable. The roads around Dash Point are forgiving: SW Dash Point Road and 47th Avenue SW are wide and well-marked, and I-5 between Tacoma and Federal Way is straight, flat, and easy to navigate outside of weekday rush hour. If you'd rather skip the drive entirely, book a host who offers delivery to Dash Point State Park. Take your first turn slow, use your mirrors, and you'll feel like a pro by day two.
wsdot.wa.gov/travel/highway-camerasWhat happens if I have a breakdown during my Dash Point RV trip?
You are covered around the clock. Every RVezy booking includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the renter protection plan, so if you get a flat on SW Dash Point Road, run into battery trouble at the campground, or have a mechanical issue heading toward Mount Rainier, one phone call gets help dispatched. You can also message your host directly through the app, since many local owners know the closest service shops in Federal Way and Tacoma. RVezy support is available before, during, and after your trip. Save the roadside number in your phone before you leave so it is one tap away.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailCan I drive my RV rental to Canada from Dash Point?
Yes, a cross-border RV road trip from Dash Point to British Columbia is doable, but you'll need the host's written permission first. The Peace Arch border crossing in Blaine is about 145 miles north on I-5, putting Vancouver within easy reach for a long weekend. Message the host before booking to confirm cross-border travel is allowed and to get the documentation you'll need at the border, including the rental agreement and insurance verification. Travel to Mexico is not permitted on RVezy rentals because coverage doesn't extend there. Pro tip: factor in fuel costs, fill up on the US side, and have passports ready for everyone in the rig.
cbp.gov/travel/us-citizens/know-before-you-go/your-tripHow much will I spend on fuel for an RV trip from Dash Point?
Budgeting is straightforward. Washington gas prices typically run higher than the national average, hovering around $4.20 to $4.60 per gallon in the Puget Sound area, and most Class C motorhomes get 8 to 10 miles per gallon while travel trailers depend on your tow vehicle. For a 3-night Dash Point RV trip with a 200-mile round trip to Mount Rainier, plan on roughly $90 to $130 in fuel. Diesel pushers get a bit better mileage. Fill up at Costco in Tukwila or Fife before heading south on I-5 for the cheapest gas in the region. Build a small buffer into your budget and you'll have no surprises.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book a campground near Dash Point?
Book early to lock in waterfront sites. Washington State Parks opens reservations 9 months in advance through the Washington Going to Camp reservation system, and Dash Point State Park's 27 full-hookup utility sites for summer weekends often sell out within hours of opening. For July and August, set a reminder to book the day reservations release. Shoulder-season trips in May, early June, and late September are usually bookable 2 to 4 weeks out. For private parks like Majestic Manor RV Park, 4 to 8 weeks ahead is plenty. Pro tip: midweek arrivals are dramatically easier to score than Friday check-ins.
parks.wa.gov/reservationsWhat are driving conditions like around Dash Point?
Driving around Dash Point is genuinely easy compared to many West Coast destinations. The neighborhood roads are quiet and residential, SW Dash Point Road has gentle grades, and you are just minutes from I-5 Exit 143 for Federal Way. Plan to avoid I-5 between Seattle and Tacoma from 3 to 7 p.m. on weekdays when commuter traffic stacks up, and watch for low-hanging branches on a few of the older park roads inside Dash Point State Park. Winter brings occasional fog and rare light snow, but crews keep main routes clear. Check the WSDOT travel site for real-time camera feeds before any big drive day from Dash Point.
wsdot.wa.gov/travel/real-time-travel/travel-centerWhat amenities will I find at campgrounds near Dash Point?
Local campgrounds are well-equipped. Dash Point State Park's utility loop offers 30 and 50-amp electrical, water, sewer hookups at 27 sites, a centralized RV dump station, modern restrooms with hot showers, potable water spigots, picnic tables, fire rings with grills, and an amphitheater with summer programs. The standard loop has 114 non-hookup sites with the same shared facilities. Saltwater State Park has vault toilets, drinking water, and a dump station but no hookups, so it's better for self-contained rigs. Cell service inside Dash Point can be spotty, which honestly makes the beach feel even better. The dump station is free for registered campers.
parks.wa.gov/find-parks/state-parks/dash-point-state-parkWhat is included inside a typical RV rental in Dash Point?
You will be set up to live comfortably from night one. Most RVezy rentals around Dash Point include a real bed (often two or three sleeping areas), a full kitchen with fridge, stove, microwave, and cookware, an indoor bathroom with shower and toilet, climate control, and seatbelted seating for travel. Many Class C motorhomes and travel trailers also include a TV, Bluetooth stereo, outdoor awning, and sometimes a generator for off-grid stays. Wi-Fi is hit-or-miss, but cellular hotspots work well around Federal Way and Tacoma. Each listing page shows exactly what is included, and many hosts add linens, kitchen kits, and camp chairs as extras.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Dash%20Point%2C%20WashingtonWhat add-ons and pickup options are available for a Dash Point RV rental?
Hosts offer plenty of ways to customize your trip. Popular add-ons for an RV rental in Dash Point include linen and towel packages ($25 to $75), kitchen kits, generators ($25 to $50 per day), portable propane fire pits, bike racks, and stocked outdoor gear. Pickup is usually at the host's home in Federal Way, Tacoma, Auburn, or Kent, and many hosts deliver directly to Dash Point State Park for a flat fee plus mileage. Mileage policies vary by listing (often 100 to 150 free miles per night, unlimited mileage on some), and they're spelled out clearly on the listing page so there are no surprises. Message the host to bundle add-ons before you book.
parks.wa.gov/find-parks/state-parks/dash-point-state-parkHow does payment and the security deposit work on RVezy?
Payment is simple and secure. You pay for your Dash Point RV rental through the RVezy platform with a credit card, never directly to the host, which keeps everything documented and protected. A refundable security deposit (typically a few hundred to a couple thousand dollars depending on the rig) is placed as a hold on your card a few days before pickup and released after the host confirms the RV came back clean, fueled, and undamaged. To avoid issues, take a quick walkaround video at pickup and drop-off, follow the host"s mileage and pet rules, and dump the holding tanks before returning.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksCan I take an RV trip to Mount Rainier or Olympic National Park from Dash Point?
Absolutely, and these are two of the best RV road trips from Dash Point. Mount Rainier National Park is about 75 miles southeast via WA-410 or WA-706, roughly a 2-hour drive, with Cougar Rock and Ohanapecosh campgrounds inside the park for RVs up to 27 to 35 feet. Olympic National Park is about 130 miles northwest via the Bainbridge or Bremerton ferry, where you'll find Kalaloch and Sol Duc campgrounds along the coast and rainforest. Add Mount St. Helens (130 miles south) or the San Juan Islands ferry for a true Pacific Northwest loop. Rent an RV in Dash Point and you've got a perfect launchpad for all of it.
