Campgrounds and RV parks near Ephrata, WA

Sun Lakes-Dry Falls State Park, located between Soap Lake and Coulee City, is the marquee day trip. It is a roughly 4,027-acre park with extensive freshwater shoreline at the foot of Dry Falls, a 400-foot-high, 3.5-mile-wide cliff carved by Ice Age floods. The park offers swimming, fishing for stocked rainbow trout, boat rentals, a nine-hole golf course, miniature golf, and more than 15 miles of hiking trails. Grand Coulee Dam sits farther up the corridor. Closer to town, Soap Lake draws visitors for its mineral water, and Oasis RV Park and Golf Course adds a golf course on site. The Dry Falls Visitor Center explains the Ice Age flood geology that shaped the region. Wildlife in the surrounding desert habitat includes hawks, songbirds, and rattlesnakes, so watch your step on hikes.

The Ephrata area has an arid continental climate: very cold winters and hot, sunny summers. Summers from June through August regularly push daytime highs near 30°C (mid-80s to low-90s°F), with July averaging a high around 87°F and overnight lows in the low 60s. Lake-based campgrounds fill quickly on summer weekends and around holidays. Spring and fall are the shoulder seasons, with May and September generally offering pleasant daytime conditions in the 70s. Wind is a year-round factor in the high desert, and spring can be particularly gusty, which matters for awnings and tent setups. Wildfire season runs through the warm months, and Washington State Parks can restrict charcoal and wood fires when conditions warrant, allowing only self-contained gas or propane stoves. Winters are cold and the area's wettest stretch, though total precipitation stays low at a near-desert level of about 195 mm annually. Sun Lakes-Dry Falls State Park is open year-round on a reduced winter schedule, with water service to campsites shut off in late October, while several private RV parks near Ephrata stay open year-round.

Sites around Ephrata are typically gravel pads with picnic tables and fire rings, and full-hookup RV sites offering water, electric, and sewer are common at private parks. Sun Lakes-Dry Falls offers both standard sites and utility sites that accommodate larger rigs. Shade is limited in the open coulee landscape, so plan on running A/C in midsummer and choose shaded interior sites where possible. Wind is the most consistent on-the-ground issue and can be strong year-round, so stake down anything that moves. The ground is often hard and dry, which makes stakes harder to drive. Cell coverage is generally good along the Highway 28 and Highway 17 corridors. Grocery and supply runs are easy from Ephrata itself, and the lakes nearby support swimming, fishing, kayaking, and seasonal boat rentals through the warm months.
