Campgrounds near Fairchild Air Force Base
Fairchild Air Force Base sits just west of Spokane in eastern Washington, on the dry side of the Cascades. RV travelers planning a stay here are within a short drive of the Spokane metro, Riverside State Park, and the Idaho Panhandle, which puts a wide mix of private RV resorts, state park campgrounds, and casino-adjacent parks in reach.
Close-in options include Ruby's Resort & RV, Willow Creek Retreat, and Overland Station RV Park, all within easy reach of the base. Northern Quest RV Resort offers full hookups and reservable sites with access to Northern Quest Casino and dining in Airway Heights. KM Resorts - Ponderosa Falls RV Resort sits a bit farther out and adds resort-style amenities for longer family stays.
For public-land camping, the largest nearby anchor is Riverside State Park along the Spokane and Little Spokane rivers. It protects 9,194 acres of dry forest and is the second-largest state park in Washington after Mount Spokane, with the Bowl and Pitcher campground, Nine Mile Recreation Area, an off-road vehicle park, equestrian facilities, and an extensive trail network.
Things to do near Fairchild
Riverside State Park is the main outdoor draw. Bowl and Pitcher features a historic Civilian Conservation Corps suspension bridge over the Spokane River, with dedicated zones for ORV riding, equestrian use, and a trail network linking the Spokane and Little Spokane rivers. Trails accommodate hiking, mountain biking, and horseback riding, with calmer paddling on the Little Spokane and Class II rapids on the Spokane River for experienced boaters.
Families based at Northern Quest RV Resort have casino dining, entertainment, and shopping in Airway Heights minutes away. The broader Spokane area also offers Riverfront Park downtown, the Spokane River Centennial Trail for cycling, seasonal U-pick farms at Green Bluff, and hiking and snow play at Mount Spokane State Park.

Summer is the prime RV window around Fairchild. Daytime highs typically run from the mid-70s to low 90s Fahrenheit, with nights in the 50s and 60s, very low precipitation from June through August, and the heaviest crowds on July and August weekends. Wildfire smoke from regional fires can affect air quality in mid to late summer, so check state and federal air-quality and burn-restriction advisories before arrival.
Shoulder seasons vary by park. At Riverside State Park's Bowl and Pitcher, day-use, cabins, the kitchen shelter, and sites 15-33 are available year-round. The group camp and sites 1-14 operate April 1 through October 15, and water and the dump station are operational mid-April through October 15. The Lake Spokane area campground and boat launch operate April 1 through October 31.
Winter brings snow and cold. Summers in Spokane are short, warm, dry, and mostly clear, while winters are very cold, snowy, and mostly cloudy. Many seasonal state-park loops close, but private resorts in the area generally stay open with winterized full-hookup service.

Booking and how to reserve
Private parks near the base, including Ruby's Resort & RV, Overland Station RV Park, Northern Quest RV Resort, Willow Creek Retreat, and KM Resorts - Ponderosa Falls RV Resort, take reservations directly through their own websites or by phone. Summer weekends and event dates fill first, so book early if a specific site type or rig length is required.
Washington State Parks uses a single online and call-center reservation system. Campsite reservations can be made up to nine months in advance of the first date of the trip, retreat centers up to one year in advance, and individual campsite reservations remain available until 2 p.m. on the arrival date. A Discover Pass is required for vehicle access to Washington state parks for day use.
What to expect near Fairchild
Expect a dry, pine-and-basalt landscape rather than the wet Pacific Northwest forests west of the Cascades. The Spokane area sits at roughly 1,700 to 2,400 feet elevation with a dry summer climate that often reaches the mid-80s to low 90s Fahrenheit from June through August, and winter temperatures that frequently drop below freezing from November through February. Sites tend to be sunny and open, with shade varying by park.
Most private RV resorts in the area offer full hookups, paved or gravel pads, Wi-Fi, and laundry. State park sites range from standard to partial and full hookups. Bowl and Pitcher at Riverside has 32 single-family sites, including 16 with electric and water, one dump station, and two restrooms with showers, with a maximum site length of 45 feet.
Wildlife sightings, river noise near the Spokane River, and some military aircraft activity near the base are normal. Plan fuel and groceries before reaching more remote state-park loops.

rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Fairchild%20Air%20Force%20Base%2C%20WashingtonWhat license do I need to rent an RV in Fairchild AFB, Washington?
Great news for first-time renters: a regular driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in Fairchild AFB. Washington State does not require a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) or any special endorsement for personal-use RVs, which covers every motorhome and trailer on RVezy. You need to be 25 or older and complete a quick ID verification through the RVezy platform when you book. Visiting from overseas through Fairchild's international travel programs? Bring an International Driving Permit (IDP) along with your home license. That's it: no base driving test, no Washington endorsement, just pack your bags and pick up your keys.

You're covered from the moment you book. Every RV rental in Fairchild AFB on RVezy includes a renter protection plan plus 24/7 roadside assistance, so you can hit Highway 2 toward Coulee Dam or I-90 toward the Cascades with real peace of mind. The protection plan covers most physical damage to the vehicle during your trip, and you choose your coverage tier during checkout. While it is not traditional auto insurance, it provides meaningful financial protection for renters, including help if you bump a mirror at the commissary parking lot or hit a deer on US-395. Pick the tier that matches your comfort level and head out confident.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat if I need to cancel my Fairchild AFB RV rental?
Booking is low-risk. RVezy sets the cancellation policy for every reservation, not individual hosts, and it includes a money-back grace period right after you book so you have breathing room to confirm leave, PCS dates, or TDY orders at Fairchild AFB. Refund amounts after the grace period depend on how close you are to your trip start date and circumstances like extreme weather or natural disasters, common considerations in eastern Washington during wildfire season. If your plans shift due to military duty, message your host right away and contact RVezy support; they handle thousands of trips a year and will walk you through your options. Book today and lock in your dates without the stress.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037736674-Understanding-the-cancellation-policy-for-guestsCan I bring my dog on a Fairchild AFB RV rental?
Absolutely, this is dog country. Plenty of hosts offer a pet-friendly RV rental in Fairchild AFB; just toggle the Pet-Friendly filter on RVezy and you'll see motorhomes and trailers that welcome your four-legged copilot. Once you're rolling, Spokane is one of the most dog-friendly cities in the Pacific Northwest: Riverside State Park's Bowl and Pitcher loop allows leashed dogs, the High Bridge Dog Park in west Spokane has 8 fenced acres along the river, and Fish Lake near Cheney has shoreline trails perfect for a swim. Pro tip: message the host before booking to confirm pet fees and bring a portable kennel, since some campgrounds require pets be crated when you're away from the site.
my.spokanecity.org/parks/parks-and-trails/dog-parks/Can the RV be delivered to Fairchild AFB or my campground?
Yes, and it is the easiest way to start your trip. RV delivery in Fairchild AFB is offered by many RVezy hosts in the Spokane area, who will bring the motorhome or trailer to base lodging, your TLF, a friend's driveway in Airway Heights, or directly to your campsite at Riverside State Park or Williams Lake. The host handles setup, levels the rig, hooks up power and water if available, and walks you through every system. This is perfect for first-time renters and for service members arriving without a tow vehicle. Filter by Delivery on RVezy and message the host to confirm delivery distance and any associated fees before booking.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Fairchild%20Air%20Force%20Base%2C%20WashingtonHow far can I drive on my Fairchild AFB RV trip?
You've got a huge playground within a day's drive. From Fairchild AFB, Coeur d'Alene, Idaho is just 45 miles east (about 50 minutes), Sandpoint is 90 miles, Grand Coulee Dam is 90 miles northwest, Glacier National Park is about 290 miles, and Yellowstone's west entrance is roughly 380 miles. Mileage policies on RVezy are set by each host: many include 100 to 150 free miles per night, and some offer RV rental with unlimited mileage, ideal for a longer RV road trip from Fairchild AFB. Check the listing's mileage section before you book, and if you're planning a big loop, message the host to negotiate a flat package. Locking in unlimited mileage upfront is almost always cheaper than paying per-mile overage.
nps.gov/glac/planyourvisit/directions.htmWhere are the best campgrounds near Fairchild Air Force Base?
You're spoiled for choice within 30 minutes of base. The best campgrounds near Fairchild AFB include Riverside State Park's Bowl and Pitcher Campground (15 miles east, full and partial hookups, the iconic swinging bridge over the Spokane River, sites up to 45 feet), Williams Lake Resort in Cheney (20 miles south, lakefront RV sites and a restaurant), Ponderosa Falls RV Resort in Cheney (full hookups, pool, and a kids' play area), and Lake Spokane Campground at Nine Mile Falls (45 minutes north, primitive sites with lake views). For RV camping in Fairchild AFB area trips, Riverside is the local favorite for tall ponderosa pines and miles of trails right out your door.
parks.wa.gov/find-parks/state-parks/riverside-state-parkWhen is the best time for an RV trip from Fairchild AFB?
Late May through early October is prime time, with July and August delivering the warmest, driest weather. Eastern Washington has a true four-season climate: summer highs near Fairchild average 85 to 90 F with cool 55 F nights (perfect sleeping weather in an RV), spring and fall hover in the 50s to 70s, and winter brings snow with lows in the 20s. September is the local insider pick: smoke from wildfire season usually clears, crowds thin out at Riverside State Park, and you'll get crisp larch-gold colors along the Pend Oreille River. Book your Fairchild AFB RV trip 2 to 3 months ahead for summer weekends, especially around Hoopfest and the Spokane Interstate Fair.
weather.gov/otx/I've never driven an RV before. Will I be okay?
You'll do great, most renters at Fairchild are first-timers. Every RVezy host provides a hands-on orientation at pickup or delivery, walking you through the generator, slide-outs, propane, water tanks, and backing up. The Spokane area is genuinely friendly for new RVers: wide roads, easy I-90 and US-2 access, flat terrain heading west toward Davenport, and plenty of pull-through sites at local campgrounds. For your first time renting an RV, choose a Class B campervan or smaller Class C (24 to 28 feet); they drive like a big van. Pro tip: do a short shakedown loop around Medical Lake or Cheney before heading into the mountains, and keep your host's number on speed dial. They want you to succeed.
wsdot.wa.gov/travel/real-time/mapWhat happens if I break down during my trip?
Help is one call away, 24 hours a day. Every RVezy booking includes round-the-clock roadside assistance as part of the protection plan, covering flat tires, lockouts, dead batteries, fuel delivery, and towing. If you are stranded on US-2 near Reardan or up Highway 395 toward Colville, call the roadside line, give them your location, and they dispatch the closest provider. Your host is also a direct line for questions about the RV's systems, so keep their number saved in your phone. Between RVezy's roadside team and your host's local expertise, you will get back on the road quickly.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailCan I take my Fairchild AFB RV rental into Canada or other states?
Cross-border and interstate travel is often allowed, and the Canadian border is just 110 miles north at Eastport/Kingsgate. Many RVezy hosts near Fairchild AFB welcome trips into British Columbia (think Nelson, Kootenay Lake, or Vancouver), but you must get the host's written approval before crossing so insurance and protection coverage extend properly. Travel to Mexico is not permitted on RVezy rentals. Within the US, you're free to roam: popular routes include Glacier National Park in Montana, Yellowstone via Bozeman, and the Oregon Coast via the Columbia Gorge. Always confirm cross-border permission in writing through RVezy messaging, and carry your passport, vehicle registration, and a host authorization letter at the border crossing.
cbp.gov/travel/us-citizens/know-before-you-go/your-tripHow much will fuel cost on my RV trip from Fairchild AFB?
Budgeting fuel is straightforward in eastern Washington. Expect 8 to 10 miles per gallon for a Class A, 10 to 14 mpg for a Class C, and 16 to 22 mpg for a campervan or tow vehicle pulling a travel trailer. Gas in the Spokane and Airway Heights area typically runs slightly below the Washington state average; the Yokes and Costco on Sprague Avenue and the Conoco on US-2 near base often have the best prices. For a 500-mile loop to Coeur d'Alene, Sandpoint, and back, plan on roughly $150 to $250 in fuel for a midsize motorhome. Pro tip: fill up east in Idaho when possible, where fuel taxes are lower than Washington's.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book a campground near Fairchild AFB?
Book early for summer, but you've got flexibility shoulder season. Washington State Parks (including Bowl and Pitcher and Lake Spokane at Riverside) open reservations 9 months in advance through the official Washington State Parks reservation system at parks.wa.gov, and prime July/August weekend sites can fill within hours of release. For private parks like Ponderosa Falls or Williams Lake Resort, 4 to 8 weeks ahead is usually enough. Mid-week stays at most campgrounds near Fairchild AFB are bookable just days out. Pro tip: set a calendar reminder for exactly 9 months before your target date at 7 a.m. Pacific to grab Bowl and Pitcher's riverfront full-hookup sites; they're the crown jewels and they go fast.
parks.wa.gov/make-reservationWhat are the driving conditions like around Fairchild AFB?
Driving is refreshingly easy compared to most metro areas. The roads around Fairchild AFB are wide, well-maintained, and rarely congested: US-2 west toward Davenport, I-90 east into Spokane, and SR-902 toward Medical Lake all handle big rigs without issue. Watch for two things: winter ice and snow from November through March (carry chains, especially crossing Lookout Pass), and summer wildfire smoke that can drop visibility on hot August afternoons. Wind gusts on the Palouse south of base can push high-profile RVs, so reduce speed on SR-904. The Washington State Department of Transportation real-time map is your friend; bookmark it before you roll out.
wsdot.com/travel/real-time/mountainpassesWhat amenities will I find at campgrounds near Fairchild AFB?
Local campgrounds are well-equipped. At Bowl and Pitcher in Riverside State Park, you'll find partial and full hookup sites (30/50 amp electric, water, and sewer on full sites), a dump station, hot showers, and flush toilets. Ponderosa Falls RV Resort in Cheney offers full hookups with cable and Wi-Fi, plus a seasonal pool. For dumping and freshwater fills between stops, head to the dump station at Bowl and Pitcher or Pilot Travel Center at the I-90/Geiger Boulevard exit. Most public campgrounds in the Spokane area do not have on-site propane, so top off in Airway Heights before you head out. Pro tip: a Washington Discover Pass is required for day use at state parks but is bundled into your camping reservation fee.
parks.wa.gov/find-parks/state-parks/riverside-state-park/bowl-and-pitcher-campgroundWhat's included inside an RV rental near Fairchild AFB?
You are getting a fully equipped home on wheels. Most RVs on RVezy near Fairchild AFB come with a queen or king bed, convertible dinette or bunk beds (sleeps 4 to 8 typically), a full kitchen with fridge, stovetop, microwave, sink, and cookware, a bathroom with toilet and shower, climate control with furnace and air conditioning, and a generator or shore-power hookup for off-grid stays. Many motorhome rental Fairchild AFB listings also include a TV, Bluetooth stereo, outdoor awning, and seatbelted seating for travel. Wi-Fi varies, so plan to use your phone hotspot in remote areas like Lake Roosevelt. Check each listing's amenities section and message the host if you need specifics like a CPAP outlet, kid car seats, or a coffee maker.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Fairchild%20Air%20Force%20Base%2C%20WashingtonWhat add-ons and pickup options can I choose for my RV rental?
You can customize your trip to the wheel. Popular add-ons from Fairchild AFB hosts include camping chairs and outdoor mats ($15 to $40), generator-hour packages, bedding and linen kits ($30 to $75), kitchen kits, bike racks, pre-filled propane tanks, and pet packages. Many hosts offer RV delivery to Fairchild base lodging, Airway Heights, or directly to Riverside State Park, typically $2 to $4 per mile from their home base. Mileage policies range from 100 free miles per night to fully unlimited; check the listing's mileage section and confirm any add-on fees with the host through RVezy messaging before you book.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Fairchild%20Air%20Force%20Base%2C%20WashingtonHow does payment and the security deposit work on RVezy?
Payments are simple and secure. When you book an RV rental in Fairchild AFB on RVezy, you pay through the platform with a credit or debit card; no cash, no third-party transfers to the host. A refundable security deposit (typically $500 to $1,500 depending on the rig) is placed as a hold on your card a few days before pickup and released after the host confirms the RV came back in good shape. Avoid issues by taking timestamped photos and a short video at pickup and return, leaving the tanks per the host's instructions, and refueling before drop-off. Keep all communication and any change requests inside the RVezy app so there is a clear record.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksCan I rent an RV near Fairchild AFB in the winter?
Yes, and winter trips are an underrated adventure. Many RVezy hosts in the Spokane and Fairchild AFB area offer four-season rigs with heated holding tanks, enclosed underbellies, propane furnaces, and shore-power capability, exactly what you need when temperatures dip into the teens and 20s from December through February. Filter for RVs listed as four-season ready, confirm winterization details with the host, and plan stays at campgrounds with full hookups so you have reliable power and water. Mt. Spokane is just 45 minutes northeast for skiing, making a winter RV camping Fairchild AFB trip a great basecamp for snow days.
