Camping near Loon Lake, Washington
Loon Lake sits in Stevens County in northeastern Washington, roughly 35 miles north of Spokane along US Highway 395. The community centers on Loon Lake itself, a lake known for clear water, trout and kokanee fishing, and a cluster of private lakeside resorts that have operated for decades. Nearby Deer Lake and Waitts Lake add more shoreline options within a short drive.
RV travelers will find mostly private resort-style campgrounds rather than large public parks. Shore Acres Resort sits on Loon Lake off Highway 292, and Granite Point Resort is also on the lake, while Westbay RV Park on Deer Lake and Deer Lake Resort are a short drive east on Deer Lake. Winona Beach Resort is farther north on Waitts Lake near Valley, offering additional full-hookup sites.
Most sites are geared to smaller and mid-size rigs. Shore Acres Resort, for example, notes a 35-foot maximum RV length, so travelers with larger rigs should confirm clearances. Long-term and seasonal renters occupy many prime lakefront spots, so short-stay travelers should book early for summer weekends.
Things to do around Loon Lake
Water recreation drives most trips. Loon Lake and Deer Lake both allow motorboats, and the lakeside resorts operate boat launches, docks, and swim beaches. Days here are filled with water skiing, fishing for trout and bass, or simply lounging under tall pines, and kokanee and tiger muskie also draw anglers depending on the lake and season.
Off the water, Mount Spokane State Park is within about an hour and offers hiking, mountain biking, and summit views. Riverside State Park along the Spokane River adds trails and paddling. The town of Chewelah to the north has a small downtown, golf, and access to the Colville National Forest.
Families typically build days around swimming, kayak or paddleboard rentals from the resorts, evening campfires, and short drives to farm stands and ice cream stops in Loon Lake village.

The active RV season runs roughly mid-April through early October. Shore Acres Resort's season runs April 15 to September 30, and the other private resorts around Loon Lake, Deer Lake, and Waitts Lake tend to run a similar spring-to-fall window, with the shoulder months being quieter and cooler.
July and August bring peak demand. Lakefront sites at the private resorts often fill months in advance for weekends and holidays, and multi-night minimums are common from mid-June through Labor Day. Holiday weekends frequently require longer stays.
Late spring and early fall trade warm-lake swimming for cooler nights, lighter traffic, and easier reservations. Winter closes most private resorts entirely. Snow is common from November into March, roads can be icy on the rural approaches, and services in Loon Lake village are limited during the off-season.

Betsy’s RV was perfect for my annual Labor Day trip. She communicated perfectly, delivered, set up, and picked up the RV at designated times. It was amazing to not have to burden my grandkids with hauling and set up duties. Will rent again.

How to book a campsite near Loon Lake
Reservations at the Loon Lake area resorts go directly through each property rather than a central state or federal system. Shore Acres Resort, Granite Point Resort, Deer Lake Resort, Westbay RV Park on Deer Lake, and Winona Beach Resort each take bookings by phone, email, or their own websites. A deposit is typically required to hold a site, and cancellation policies vary, with some deposits non-refundable.
For summer weekends, plan to book two to six months out. Ask about rig length limits, slide clearance, and whether the site is pull-through or back-in, since some resorts note a 35-foot maximum RV length. Confirm pet policies, holiday-weekend minimum stays, and whether a day-use fee applies to visiting family before arrival.
What to expect on site
The resorts around Loon Lake and Deer Lake are compact, lake-focused properties rather than sprawling campgrounds. Expect a mix of seasonal residents, cabins, and short-stay RV sites clustered near the water. Full hookups with 30 and 50 amp electric, water, and sewer are common, along with showers and pet-friendly policies, and most properties have a small store and a boat launch or dock.
Sites can feel close together, especially at older resorts where trees and existing cabins limit spacing. Cell service is generally usable but not fast, and resort Wi-Fi varies. Quiet hours are enforced at family-oriented properties.
Wildlife sightings are routine. Deer, osprey, and waterfowl are common, and black bears are present in the surrounding forest, so food storage discipline still matters even at developed resorts.

weather.gov/otx/I've never driven an RV before. Is renting one in Loon Lake really doable?
Yes, and Loon Lake is one of the friendlier places in Washington to learn. Every RVezy host gives you a hands-on walkthrough at pickup covering propane, slides, leveling, the water pump, and the dump valves, and you can message them anytime during your trip. The roads around Loon Lake (US-395 and State Route 292) are wide, paved, and lightly trafficked compared to Seattle-area highways, with gentle grades. Start with a smaller Class C motorhome or a 20-to-25-foot travel trailer if it is your first time renting an RV. Pro tip: ask your host about delivery to Deer Lake Resort so your first drive is from the campground to dinner, not from Spokane.
rvezy.com/blog/first-time-rv-renters-guideWhat happens if the RV breaks down during my trip?
You are never stranded. Every RVezy booking includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the protection plan, covering tows, jump-starts, flat tires, lockouts, and fuel delivery anywhere your Loon Lake adventure takes you, from the gravel roads off Highway 292 to a turnout on the Pend Oreille Scenic Byway. One phone call dispatches help. Your host is also just a message away for quirky RV questions, like resetting a tripped GFCI or relighting the water heater. Save the RVezy support number in your phone before pickup, screenshot your booking confirmation in case of low cell service near Deer Lake, and you are set.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validityCan I take my Loon Lake RV rental across the border into Canada or Idaho?
Idaho is no problem at all, and Canada is often possible too. Idaho trips are popular, you are only about 110 miles from Sandpoint, ID and roughly 90 minutes to Coeur d'Alene. For Canada, many hosts allow trips across the Laurier border crossing (just 75 miles north of Loon Lake) into British Columbia, but you must confirm with your specific host before booking because cross-border protection terms vary. Trips into Mexico are not permitted on any RVezy rental because protection coverage does not extend there. Bring your passport and vehicle registration (your host provides this), and RVezy can help with the cross-border process ahead of your departure.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validityHow much should I budget for fuel on a Loon Lake RV trip?
Fuel is one of the more predictable costs of any RV road trip from Loon Lake. Class B campervans average 18 to 22 MPG, Class C motorhomes about 8 to 12 MPG, Class A coaches 6 to 10 MPG, and trucks pulling travel trailers around 10 to 14 MPG. Stevens County gas prices typically run a bit higher than Spokane, so fill up in Spokane or Colville before heading to your campsite. For a 4-night trip covering 300 miles in a Class C at recent regional pump prices, budget roughly $125 to $160 in fuel. Pro tip: use GasBuddy to compare prices along Route 395 before you roll.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book a campground around Loon Lake?
For summer weekends, book the day reservations open. Washington State Parks accepts reservations up to nine months ahead through washington.goingtocamp.com, and limited sites at Mount Spokane fill quickly for July and August. Private resorts like Deer Lake Resort and Granite Point Park take direct bookings on their websites and often sell out three to six months in advance for prime lakefront sites. For more flexible last-minute trips, target midweek dates in late June or post-Labor Day September. Insider tip: when Deer Lake Resort shows full, call them directly, they sometimes hold a few sites off the online system.
washington.goingtocamp.com/What are the local driving conditions like around Loon Lake?
Driving here is refreshingly relaxed compared to western Washington. US-395 and State Route 292 are well-maintained two-lane highways with gentle grades, wide shoulders, and far less traffic than I-5 or I-90. Watch for wildlife (whitetail deer, especially at dawn and dusk), occasional logging trucks, and summer thunderstorms that can move through quickly. In winter, expect snow, ice, and required traction tires, which is one reason most guests rent April through October. The drive up to Mount Spokane involves steeper grades, so check brakes before that climb. Pro tip: stick with US-395 south to I-90 if you are heading west.
wsdot.wa.gov/travel/real-time-travel/mountain-pass-conditionsWhat amenities can I expect at Loon Lake area campgrounds?
Most local campgrounds are surprisingly well-equipped. Resorts on Deer Lake and Loon Lake commonly offer full hookups (water, sewer, 30 and 50-amp electric), Wi-Fi at the office, fire rings, picnic tables, hot showers, laundry, and dump stations. Deer Lake Resort adds a marina, boat launch, swim beach, and a small store. Mount Spokane's backcountry campgrounds are more rustic, often with restrooms but no showers and no hookups, so you will rely on your RV's freshwater tank and generator. For where to park an RV in Loon Lake without a reservation, the Colville National Forest has free dispersed sites within roughly 30 minutes north, though you will need to be fully self-contained.

Most have a generator (often a few free hours per day, then a small hourly fee), and many include a TV and Bluetooth stereo. Simple and secure. You pay your full Loon Lake RV rental on RVezy at the time of booking using a credit card or supported digital wallet, and RVezy holds the funds until after your trip starts, so the host is motivated to deliver a great experience. A refundable security deposit (typically $500 to $1,500 depending on rig type) is pre-authorized on your card a few days before pickup, not actually charged, and released after a clean return. To avoid issues, do a thorough video walkaround with your host at pickup and dropoff, return with the same fuel and propane levels, and empty the holding tanks if your contract requires it. Keep all receipts in case you need them later.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksWhat's the best RV road trip from Loon Lake?
You are perfectly positioned for an epic loop.
