Campgrounds and RV parks near Mabton, WA

Wine tasting is the headline activity. Prosser has close to 30 wineries and tasting rooms, with about a dozen clustered close enough to walk between, and the Walter Clore Wine and Culinary Center serves as the regional anchor for tastings and food education. Guided tour operators run scheduled van and shuttle outings so drivers do not have to stay behind the wheel. The valley is also a major fruit and hop region. Families can pick berries at Bill's Berry Farm in Prosser, stop at Chukar Cherries for chocolate-covered cherries, and visit the Prosser Benton County Historical Museum. The Yakima River and Horse Heaven Hills offer fishing, cycling, and stargazing on clear nights, with the Great Prosser Balloon Rally drawing crowds each fall.

The Yakima Valley has a dry, sunny climate with hot summers, cool nights, and low humidity. Summers are arid and clear, with daytime highs frequently near or above 30 degrees Celsius and very little rainfall. Winters are cold, with light snow possible from November through February and overnight lows often below freezing. Most of the limited annual precipitation in this semi-arid basin falls between late fall and early spring. Late spring and early summer are popular for vineyard visits, when the vines green up and orchards bloom. Spring Barrel Tasting weekends in the valley draw heavy crowds, and weekend sites at Wine Country RV Park and Sunnyside RV Park fill quickly during these events. Fall is harvest season, with cooler temperatures, vineyard color, and the Great Prosser Balloon Rally drawing visitors. Winter is the slowest period for tourism. Many tasting rooms shift to weekend-only hours, but the larger RV parks in Sunnyside and Prosser remain open year-round for travelers passing through on I-82.

Expect open, sunny sites rather than forested ones. The Lower Yakima Valley is high desert irrigated farmland, so most parks have gravel or paved pads, mature trees planted around the grounds, and views of vineyards or rolling hills rather than dense woods. Big-rig access is generally good at the larger parks, and full hookups with 30- and 50-amp service are common. Amenities vary. Sunnyside RV Park offers laundry, a playground, a pool, free Wi-Fi, and pull-through sites up to 65 feet across roughly 35 sites. Wine Country RV Park has a swimming pool, a wine bar with rotating local pourings from March through October, and a shuttle for winery visits, with a 40-pound pet weight limit. Cell coverage is reliable along the I-82 corridor but can thin out on the back roads toward Bickleton and the Columbia River.
