Campgrounds near Beverly, West Virginia
Beverly sits in Randolph County in the Tygart Valley of eastern West Virginia, a few miles south of Elkins and adjacent to the Monongahela National Forest. The area serves as a practical basecamp for RV travelers heading to Shavers Fork of the Cheat River, the Otter Creek Wilderness, and the wider Allegheny highlands. The Monongahela National Forest covers roughly 919,000 acres, with elevations climbing above 4,800 feet at Spruce Knob and cooler temperatures than surrounding lowlands.
Private campgrounds close to Beverly include Saylwinds Campground, West Virginia, Pegasus Farm Campground, Smoked Bottom Campground, Revelle's River Resort, and Kick Back N Camp. Revelle's River Resort sits along two miles of Shavers Fork frontage about nine miles east of Elkins near Bowden, with riverside and off-river RV sites, full three-point hookups, cabins, and tent spots, and it operates year-round.
Because the region blends private RV parks with National Forest campgrounds and dispersed sites, travelers can mix full-hookup convenience with primitive nights deeper in the forest.
Things to do near Beverly
The surrounding Monongahela National Forest supports hiking, mountain biking, trout fishing, kayaking, and rock climbing. Nearby draws include Otter Creek Wilderness, Spruce Knob (the state's highest point at 4,863 feet), Seneca Rocks, Dolly Sods Wilderness, and Blackwater Falls. Shavers Fork of the Cheat River is stocked with trout and popular for tubing and paddling in warmer months.
Rail and history stops are close at hand. The Durbin and Greenbrier Valley Railroad runs scenic excursions, and the Beverly Historic District interprets Randolph County's Civil War era. In winter, downhill skiing and snowboarding are within reach at Canaan Valley Resort and Snowshoe Mountain, both drivable from Beverly.

Summer is the peak RV window. June through August brings warm days, the longest daylight, and full operations at most private and Forest Service campgrounds. Weekends and the Fourth of July fill early, especially at riverfront sites. Elevation keeps mountain nights cooler than the valley floor, often 10 to 15 degrees lower than nearby lowlands.
Spring and fall are shoulder seasons. Spring runs wet, with high water on the Shavers Fork and Cheat drainages, good for paddling but variable for hiking. Fall delivers strong foliage from late September into mid-October and coincides with the Mountain State Forest Festival in Elkins, held during the first week of October, when local sites book weeks ahead.
Winter operations are limited. Many National Forest campgrounds close from late fall through spring, while a few private resorts, including Revelle's River Resort, stay open year-round with heated cabins and a heated bathhouse for RV and tent campers. Snow and ice on forest roads can restrict access to higher-elevation sites.
How to book campgrounds near Beverly
Monongahela National Forest developed campgrounds that take reservations use Recreation.gov, typically on a rolling six-month window. Several smaller Forest Service sites, including Bear Heaven northeast of Elkins, operate first-come, first-served and do not accept advance bookings. Dispersed camping is generally allowed within Forest boundaries under Leave No Trace rules.
Private parks handle reservations directly. Revelle's River Resort books through its own website or by phone. Saylwinds Campground, Pegasus Farm Campground, Smoked Bottom Campground, and Kick Back N Camp accept direct reservations, in some cases through Hipcamp or similar platforms. For fall foliage weekends and Forest Festival dates, book four to eight weeks ahead.
What to expect on arrival
Roads in the Monongahela range from paved two-lane highways to narrow gravel forest roads that soften after heavy rain. Larger rigs should confirm site length and access before booking, especially at back-in and riverfront spots. Full hookups with 50-amp service are common at private resorts like Revelle's River Resort, which accommodates rigs up to about 55 feet, while Forest Service sites are usually basic with picnic tables, fire rings, and vault or flush toilets depending on the campground.
Cell service is limited or absent across much of the forest, and Wi-Fi at private campgrounds often reaches only the office area. Black bear activity requires hard-sided food storage and clean sites. Bring layers year-round: mountain evenings run cool even in July, and afternoon thunderstorms are common in summer.

fs.usda.gov/recarea/mnf/recarea/?recid=6989When is the best time to rent an RV in Beverly, WV?

Early October is legendary for fall foliage in the Tygart Valley and Monongahela National Forest, book 2 months out for prime leaf-peeping. June and September are quieter shoulder months with great weather and lower rates. weather.gov/rlx/I've never rented an RV before. Will I be okay driving in the Beverly area?

nps.gov/neri/index.htmWhat kind of gas mileage and fuel budget should I plan for around Beverly?
Budgeting fuel is easy once you know the basics. Class B campervans average 18-22 miles per gallon (MPG), Class C motorhomes get 10-14 MPG, and Class A motorhomes run 7-10 MPG. West Virginia gas prices typically sit a little below the national average. There's a Sheetz and Exxon in nearby Elkins (8 miles north of Beverly) where most renters top off before heading into the Monongahela National Forest, since fuel stops thin out fast in the mountains. Pro tip: the climbs around Cheat Mountain and toward Snowshoe burn extra fuel, so fill up in Elkins before any loop deeper into the Allegheny Highlands.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book a campground near Beverly?
For the best campgrounds near Beverly, book 3-6 months ahead for summer weekends and October leaf season, and 2-4 weeks ahead for midweek trips. Federal sites in Monongahela National Forest like Stuart Recreation Area and Seneca Shadows reserve through Recreation.gov, while West Virginia State Parks like Audra and Kumbrabow use the WV State Parks reservation system. Private parks like Revelle's Campground and Camp Pioneer book directly by phone or website. Pro tip: the second weekend of October (peak foliage) sells out first, so set a calendar reminder for the 6-month rolling release window on Recreation.gov.
recreation.gov/camping/gateways/2725What are the local driving conditions like around Beverly?
Beverly sits in the Tygart Valley at about 2,000 feet, with mostly well-maintained two-lane highways (US-219 and US-250) that handle RVs easily. Expect curvy mountain grades heading east toward Seneca Rocks on US-33 and steep climbs on the way to Snowshoe and Spruce Knob, take those at a relaxed pace and use lower gears descending. Watch for deer at dawn and dusk, especially along Files Creek Road and Stuart Park Road. Winter brings real snow (41 inches average annually), so November-March trips need winterized rigs and tire chains. Pro tip: the West Virginia 511 traveler info site shows real-time mountain road conditions.

Many include delivery and setup to Camp Pioneer, Stuart Recreation Area, or Revelle's so you skip driving altogether. fmcsa.dot.gov/regulations/title49/section/390.5How do payment and the security deposit work when I rent an RV in Beverly?
Payment is simple and secure: RVezy charges your credit or debit card through the platform, never directly to the host, so there is a clear record of everything. A refundable security deposit (typically $500 to $1,500 depending on the RV) is pre-authorized on your card before pickup and released after the trip once the host confirms the rig came back in good shape. Take timestamped photos of the interior, exterior, and odometer at pickup and dropoff, and review the host's mileage and generator-hour policies. Pro tip: a quick rinse and tank dump at Camp Pioneer before returning your Beverly rental makes deposit return seamless.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksCan I rent a winterized RV in Beverly for cold-weather or ski trips?
Yes, winter RV camping near Beverly is a real adventure thanks to nearby Snowshoe Mountain Resort (60 miles south) and Canaan Valley (50 miles north). Filter for hosts who list winterized features: heated holding tanks, enclosed underbellies, propane furnaces, and 30/50-amp shore power capability. With January lows averaging around 20°F and 41 inches of annual snowfall, you'll want a campground with full hookups, Revelle's in Elkins stays open year-round, while most Forest Service sites close November-April. Bring tire chains for mountain passes. Pro tip: book a delivered, pre-heated rig at a ski-area RV park so you arrive to a warm cabin on wheels after a day on the slopes.
