Campgrounds and RV parks near Buffalo, WV

Buffalo is a small town in Putnam County along the Kanawha River, roughly halfway between Charleston and Point Pleasant. It is part of the Huntington-Ashland metropolitan area, and RV travelers use it as a low-traffic base for reaching the Mid-Ohio Valley, the Kanawha Valley, and the Huntington metro area, all within about an hour's drive. WV Route 62 runs along the river through town, with Interstate 64 and U.S. Route 35 handling the wider regional through-traffic a short distance away. The surrounding area leans toward private RV parks and small campgrounds rather than large state-park destinations. Options within easy driving range include Huntington / Fox Fire KOA Holiday to the southwest, Mothman Festival Campground and Kountry Resort Campground near Point Pleasant to the northwest, Statts Mills RV Park to the north, and Little Coal River Campground and Cabin to the southeast. Most sites in the region sit in rolling wooded terrain with river or creek access. Full-hookup pull-throughs are common at private parks, while nearby West Virginia state parks add electric and water sites for travelers willing to drive a bit farther.

Private parks near Buffalo, including Statts Mills RV Park, Kountry Resort Campground, and Little Coal River Campground and Cabin, take reservations directly through their own websites or by phone. KOA properties such as Huntington / Fox Fire KOA Holiday book through the KOA reservation system and often require a deposit at the time of booking. West Virginia state parks allow campsite reservations twelve months in advance through reservations.wvstateparks.com, or by phone at 1-833-WV-PARKS. Summer weekends and holiday periods are the first to sell out, so lock in dates early. For the Mothman Festival weekend in mid-September, reserve sites at Mothman Festival Campground and other Point Pleasant-area parks several months out. Same-week availability is rare.
