Campgrounds and RV parks near Craigsville, WV

Craigsville sits in Nicholas County in central West Virginia, roughly 15 miles east of Summersville and near the western edge of the Monongahela National Forest. The town serves as a practical staging point for RV travelers heading to Summersville Lake, the Gauley River National Recreation Area, and the Cranberry Wilderness. Elevations in the surrounding country run from about 1,400 to 3,000 feet, and mountain terrain shapes both the driving routes and the weather. Private RV parks in the area cover most hookup needs. Mountain Lake Campground and Cabins and Mountain Top RV Park and Cabins offer developed sites with utilities, Summersville Lake Retreat & Lighthouse provides RV sites and cabins near the lake, and Camp Holly and Elk River Camp and RV round out the local options for travelers who want a base with amenities. Public-land camping is close at hand through the Monongahela National Forest, which covers more than 900,000 acres and offers developed campgrounds with potable water and vault toilets as well as primitive sites along the Cranberry and Williams Rivers. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers also manages Battle Run Campground on Summersville Lake, and the new Summersville Lake State Park has added three campgrounds on the lake's northern shore.

Federal sites use Recreation.gov. Both Monongahela National Forest campgrounds and the Army Corps of Engineers campground at Summersville Lake, Battle Run, are reserved through that system. Battle Run accepts reservations up to 240 days in advance for the Memorial Day through Labor Day period, with early- and late-season sites available first-come, first-served. Summersville Lake State Park's three campgrounds, Overlook, Deer Run, and Joe Branch, are managed under a public-private partnership and are booked through the West Virginia State Parks system. Private campgrounds such as Summersville Lake Retreat & Lighthouse, Mountain Lake Campground and Cabins, Mountain Top RV Park and Cabins, Camp Holly, and Elk River Camp and RV each maintain their own online booking. Holiday weekends often require minimum stays and deposits. For Gauley Season weekends in September and October, reserve as far ahead as possible and confirm cancellation windows before finalizing travel plans.
