Campgrounds and RV parks near McMechen, WV

McMechen sits along the Ohio River in Marshall County, just south of Wheeling in West Virginia's northern panhandle. RV travelers use it as a base for the Ohio Valley, with campgrounds spread across the hills on both sides of the river in West Virginia, southwestern Pennsylvania, and eastern Ohio. The closest full-service option is Grand Vue Park in Moundsville, a public park on a ridge above the valley. Big Gs RV Campground and Ernies Acres Campground offer smaller sites in the surrounding countryside, and Hotel RV West Alexander sits just across the Pennsylvania line near I-70. For a state-park experience, Barkcamp State Park in Belmont County, Ohio, is roughly a half-hour drive west. Most sites in the area handle mid-size to large rigs, and the mix of private parks and a state park gives travelers flexibility on hookups and amenities without long transit days between stops.

Ohio state park campsites, including Barkcamp, are reserved through ReserveOhio at reserveohio.com or by phone at (866) 644-6727. Campsites and seasonal cabins such as Sherman cabins can be booked up to six months in advance, while year-round cabins can be booked up to one year out. Full payment is due at the time of reservation and Ohio parks that use the system no longer offer walk-in campsites. Grand Vue Park takes reservations directly through its own booking portal and by phone. Big Gs RV Campground, Ernies Acres Campground, and Hotel RV West Alexander are smaller operations that typically confirm sites by phone or through their websites, so calling ahead is the most reliable approach for holiday weekends.
