Campgrounds near Brandon, Wisconsin
Brandon is a small village in Fond du Lac County in east-central Wisconsin, positioned between the Horicon Marsh to the south and the Green Lake and upper Fox River recreation area to the north. Most RV travelers use Brandon as a quiet base for exploring nearby lakes, marshes, and small towns like Ripon, Markesan, and Green Lake.
The closest developed campgrounds sit around Green Lake, roughly 15 to 25 minutes north of Brandon. Options include the compact, city-owned Hattie Sherwood Campground with 38 electric sites, an on-site boat launch, and a swimming beach across the street on the lake, and the much larger Green Lake Campground, a 132-acre resort with 370 campsites and 5 cabins. Green Lake Conference Center-American Baptist Assembly also offers lodging and lakefront grounds nearby.
West of Brandon, Shady Oaks Campground sits near Markesan, and Eureka Dam Campsites lies on the upper Fox River below the Eureka Lock and Dam toward Omro, giving anglers direct river access.
Things to do near Brandon
Green Lake is the main draw. Boating, swimming, and fishing dominate summer trips, and rentals for kayaks, canoes, and pontoon boats are available at the Green Lake Marina, a short drive from most campgrounds.
Anglers head to the Eureka Lock and Dam on the upper Fox River, one of the well-known fishing areas in the state's Northeast region, drawing visitors for walleye, white bass, and catfish. The Horicon Marsh National Wildlife Refuge, south of Brandon, offers birding, auto tours, and boardwalk trails.
Families staying at Green Lake Campground can use a four-pool aquatic center, a par-3 nine-hole golf course, mini golf, and a beach, while Ripon and downtown Green Lake add small-town dining, ice cream shops, and the Thrasher Opera House.

The camping season around Brandon is short and clearly defined. Hattie Sherwood is open May 1 through October 15, and Eureka Dam Campsites is open from March through October 31, welcoming day visitors, overnight guests, and destination campers. Most other private parks in the area follow a similar April or May opening and a mid-to-late October closing.
July and August are peak months, with warm days, active lake use, and the highest booking pressure. Weekends around Memorial Day, the Fourth of July, and Labor Day fill first, especially at lakefront sites. June tends to bring the wettest weather of the year and heavier mosquito activity near the marshes, so screened outdoor space is useful.
Spring and fall are quieter. May offers cool nights and reliable weekday availability, while September and early October bring fall color, cooler fishing conditions, and thinning crowds before parks close for the season. Winter camping is not offered at the campgrounds listed here.
How to book campsites near Brandon
Booking systems vary by campground, so plan by property. Hattie Sherwood takes online reservations through hattiesherwood.com and by phone, guests may stay up to 9 consecutive days, and a reservation may be modified or canceled until 14 days prior to arrival. Green Lake Campground books directly through its own site, and holiday weekends often sell out months ahead.
Eureka Dam Campsites accepts reservations by phone with the on-site managers, with a two-day deposit required for weekends and holidays, so calling ahead is important. Shady Oaks Campground in Markesan is primarily seasonal, with a limited number of overnight sites, so short-stay RV guests should confirm availability before arrival.
For summer weekends, book 8 to 12 weeks out. For shoulder-season weekdays in May, September, or October, a few days of lead time is usually enough.
What to expect on site
Expect a mix of full-hookup resort camping and simpler electric-only lakefront and river sites. Green Lake Campground offers pull-through sites with full or electric and water hookups, some located along the banks of Green Lake, plus Wi-Fi, restrooms, showers, a dump station, an on-site camp store, and a storm shelter. Hattie Sherwood is more basic, with 38 electric sites on grassy, wooded lots, modern restrooms and showers, fire pits, and picnic tables, and no sewer at the site. Eureka Dam offers 20 pull-through RV sites with water and 20/30/50-amp electric plus a dump station near the entrance, and no sewer at the site due to the Fox River location.
Rules skew family-oriented. Hattie Sherwood enforces quiet hours from 10:00 pm to 8:00 am and a 5 mph speed limit, and no carry-in firewood is allowed; all firewood must be purchased on site, which is standard across Wisconsin due to emerald ash borer rules.

weather.gov/mkx/I've never rented an RV before, will I be okay driving around Brandon, WI?

Every host gives a hands-on walkthrough at pickup covering driving, leveling, hookups, and waste tanks, so you won't be guessing. First time renting an RV? Choose a smaller Class C or campervan to start, and request delivery so your first miles are at the campground, not on the road. Your host is also typically a quick text away for questions about quirks like a sticky slide-out or where the water pump switch hides. Save the roadside number in your phone before pickup and you're set for a worry-free Brandon RV trip.

help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validityWhat kind of fuel mileage and gas budget should I plan for?
Wisconsin gas prices are typically friendlier than coastal states, often $3.00 to $3.50 per gallon, and Brandon sits right on regular driving routes with stations in Waupun, Ripon, and Fond du Lac. Expect roughly 8 to 10 miles per gallon (mpg) for a Class A, 10 to 14 mpg for a Class C, 14 to 18 mpg for a campervan, and your tow vehicle's normal mileage minus 25 to 35% when pulling a travel trailer. For a 4-day loop covering 400 miles in a Class C, budget $120 to $160 for fuel. Pro tip: top up in Fond du Lac before heading to Door County, prices climb the further into tourist territory you go.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book a campground near Brandon, WI?
For Wisconsin state parks like High Cliff, Kettle Moraine, and Devil's Lake, reserve through the Wisconsin DNR's reservation system as early as 11 months out, especially for summer weekends and fall-color weekends in late September and early October. Private parks like Westward Ho and Waupun Area Campground typically book 2 to 4 months ahead for holidays (Memorial Day, July 4, Labor Day). Midweek and shoulder-season trips (May, early June, October) often have same-week availability. Pro tip: if your first-choice park is full, check Horicon Ledge Park and Columbia County's smaller county parks, they're hidden gems that locals quietly love.
dnr.wisconsin.gov/topic/parks/camping/reservationsWhat are driving conditions like around Brandon, WI?
Driving around Brandon is genuinely RV-friendly. The terrain is gently rolling farmland with wide-shouldered county highways (Highway 49, 23, and 44) and easy access to US-151 and I-41. Watch for two things: deer at dawn and dusk (especially in fall), and occasional Amish horse-and-buggy traffic on rural roads near Ripon and Waupun, just slow down and give wide passing room. Winter brings snow and ice from December through March, so if you're renting in those months ask your host about tire chains and shore power. Check 511 Wisconsin before any drive for live road conditions, it's the local go-to.
