RV camping near Manitowoc, Wisconsin
Manitowoc sits on the western shore of Lake Michigan in east-central Wisconsin, roughly halfway between Milwaukee and Green Bay along Interstate 43. The city is the western terminus of the SS Badger car ferry to Ludington, Michigan, which makes it a common staging point for RV travelers looking to skip the drive around the lake.
Camping options within a short drive cover both lakefront and inland settings. Village Inn On The Lake Hotel and RV Park and Seagull Marina and Campground offer easy access to the lake and harbor, while Scheffel's Hideaway Campground, Devils River Campground, and Mapleview Campground provide quieter, wooded settings farther from the shore. Public camping in the area is anchored by Point Beach State Forest, which sits on roughly 3,000 acres along Lake Michigan in Manitowoc County, just north in Two Rivers.
Most private parks near Manitowoc cater to family RV travel with full or partial hookups, dump stations, and weekly rates during the warm months. State forest sites tend to be more rustic and fill quickly for summer weekends.
Things to do around Manitowoc
The Wisconsin Maritime Museum on the Manitowoc River is the city's headline attraction, with tours of the World War II submarine USS Cobia docked alongside. Downtown Manitowoc and neighboring Two Rivers add beaches, lighthouses, harbor walks, and small-boat fishing charters within a short drive of most campgrounds.
Point Beach State Forest features seventeen miles of hiking trails, six miles of beach, camping, a nature center, and Rawley Point Lighthouse. A paved bike trail runs from the campground toward Two Rivers, and a stretch of the Ice Age National Scenic Trail also runs through the forest, giving hikers a long-distance route straight from camp.
Inland, the Manitowoc River corridor and county parks add paddling, tubing, and quiet fishing spots that work well for families with younger kids.

The RV season around Manitowoc runs mainly from May through mid-October. Summer brings comfortable daytime temperatures, warm lake breezes, and the busiest reservation window; weekend sites at Point Beach State Forest and the closer-in private parks tend to fill weeks in advance, especially around the Fourth of July and Labor Day.
Late spring and early fall are quieter and cooler. Nights can drop into the 30s and 40s Fahrenheit in April and October, so furnace-equipped RVs are useful at the shoulders. Fall color along the Lake Michigan corridor typically peaks in early to mid-October, and shoreline winds pick up noticeably after the leaves turn.
Winters are long, snowy, and cold, with lake-effect snow and freezing temperatures common from December through February. Most private campgrounds near Manitowoc close for the season, though Point Beach State Forest is open year-round for winter recreation such as cross-country skiing and snowshoeing.

Crystal and Kevin were awesome hosts! Crystal was very thorough with communication and organization and had helpful tips for us as first-time RV campers. Kevin set up and did a detailed walk through and showed us all the cool features of the RV. It was clean and smelled like a fancy hotel room, and they really thought of everything, even extra nice touches like 2 packets of Door County coffee. Would 100% recommend renting this RV from these great hosts!

How to book campgrounds near Manitowoc
Point Beach State Forest and other Wisconsin state park campgrounds are booked through the Wisconsin DNR reservation system. Camping reservations are required and can be made up to 11 months in advance of the planned date of occupancy, online or by calling 1-888-947-2757. Popular summer weekends often sell out within days of the window opening, so setting a calendar reminder is worthwhile for peak-season trips. A vehicle admission pass is required for any motor vehicles brought into the property, and a camper without a 12-month pass will need to buy one daily pass for each night of camping.
Private parks such as Village Inn On The Lake Hotel and RV Park, Seagull Marina and Campground, Scheffel's Hideaway Campground, Devils River Campground, and Mapleview Campground handle their own reservations by phone or website. Holiday weekends and fishing tournaments book earliest, so lock in dates as soon as travel plans firm up.
What to expect on-site
Private campgrounds near Manitowoc typically offer a mix of pull-through and back-in sites with 30- and 50-amp electric, water, and either full sewer hookups or a shared dump station. Amenities vary but often include laundry, showers, a camp store, and a playground or small pool suited to family stays.
At Point Beach State Forest, sites are wooded and within walking distance of the beach, though because of the high sand dunes, none of the sites offer a view of the lake. The family campground consists of 127 sites, 70 of them with electricity, and a dump station is available to registered campers across from the main entrance to the campground. Roads inside the state forest campground are narrow, so drivers of longer rigs should confirm site length before booking.
Cell service is generally reliable near town but can be spotty in the state forest and along the more rural inland roads.

travelwisconsin.com/east-central/manitowoc-county/manitowocDo I need a special license to rent an RV in Manitowoc?
Good news: a regular driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in Manitowoc, Wisconsin. No commercial driver's license (CDL) or RV endorsement is required for any rig you will find on RVezy, including Class A motorhomes, Class C motorhomes, campervans, and travel trailers. Approved drivers must generally be at least 25 years old, and RVezy handles ID verification through the platform so the process takes just a few minutes online. help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039008774-Understanding-approved-driver-requirementsWhat kind of protection or insurance is included with my Manitowoc RV rental?
Every RV rental in Manitowoc booked through RVezy includes a renter protection plan and 24/7 roadside assistance built right into your reservation, so you can hit the Mariners Trail or Point Beach State Forest with peace of mind. The protection plan covers physical damage to the RV, and you choose your coverage level during checkout. While this is not traditional auto insurance, it offers meaningful financial protection during your trip. Pro tip: pick the protection level that matches your comfort with the deductible. Higher tiers mean lower out-of-pocket exposure if something unexpected happens on your Lake Michigan adventure.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat if my plans change? Can I cancel my Manitowoc RV booking?
Booking is low-risk. RVezy sets the cancellation policy (not the host), and there is a money-back grace period right after booking so you can lock in your dates with confidence. Refund eligibility after the grace period depends on how far out you cancel relative to your trip start date. The exact details are shown at checkout and in your trip dashboard. If a host cancels on you, RVezy provides a refund or travel credit. Pro tip: book early to secure the best rigs for summer events like SubFest at the Wisconsin Maritime Museum, knowing the grace period has you covered if your plans shift in the first day or two.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037736674-Understanding-the-cancellation-policy-for-guestsCan I bring my dog on a Manitowoc RV trip?
Yes, pet-friendly RV rental Manitowoc options are plentiful on RVezy. Just toggle the Pet-Friendly filter on the search page and you will see rigs whose hosts welcome your four-legged co-pilot. Manitowoc is a dog-lover's town: the Mariners Trail to Two Rivers is leash-friendly, and Point Beach State Forest allows leashed pets on most trails and in designated campsites and pet-friendly swim areas. Many hosts charge a small pet fee (usually $25-$75 per trip) to cover extra cleaning. Pro tip: pack a towel, because your pup will likely sprint straight into the lake at Neshotah Beach in Two Rivers.
dnr.wisconsin.gov/topic/parks/pointbeachCan the RV be delivered to my campsite in Manitowoc?
Yes, RV delivery Manitowoc is one of the most popular options on RVezy, especially if it's your first time renting an RV. Many local hosts will tow or drive the rig straight to Point Beach State Forest, Kohler-Andrae State Park, Camp 10 Campground, or even your driveway, then level it, hook up water and power, and walk you through every system. That means zero stress about backing a 30-foot trailer into a wooded site. Filter by 'Delivery' when you search to see hosts who offer it. Pro tip: ask about a 'stationary delivery' package. You save on mileage fees and skip the towing learning curve entirely.
manitowoccountywi.gov/departments/parks/campsite-reservations/How far can I drive on a Manitowoc RV trip, and are there mileage limits?
You've got tons of range from Manitowoc. Hosts set their own mileage policies, and many offer generous daily allowances (100-150 miles/day is typical) or even RV rental with unlimited mileage on longer bookings. From Manitowoc, popular drives include Door County (about 75 miles north), Green Bay and Lambeau Field (40 miles), Milwaukee (80 miles south), Wisconsin Dells (160 miles west), and the Upper Peninsula via the S.S. Badger carferry to Ludington, Michigan. Each listing shows the mileage policy clearly before you book. Pro tip: if you're planning a Door County RV road trip from Manitowoc, message the host to negotiate a higher mileage cap upfront and lock in your route.
wisconsindot.gov/Pages/travel/road/default.aspxWhere are the best campgrounds near Manitowoc for an RV trip?
Manitowoc is surrounded by excellent RV camping options. Point Beach State Forest in Two Rivers (about 12 miles north) offers 127 sites along six miles of Lake Michigan shoreline and the Rawley Point Lighthouse. Kohler-Andrae State Park (35 miles south) has sandy dunes and modern hookup sites. Camp 10 Campground in Reedsville (15 miles inland) is family-friendly with a swimming pond and mini-golf. Seagull Marina & Campground and Village Inn on the Lake RV Park, both in Two Rivers, sit right on the water. Walla Hi County Park near Cato offers quiet Kettle Moraine wooded sites for $28/night. Pro tip: state park sites on the lake book out months ahead for July weekends.
dnr.wisconsin.gov/topic/parks/pointbeachWhen is the best time to rent an RV in Manitowoc, Wisconsin?
Late June through early September is prime time for RV camping Manitowoc, with average highs in the mid-70s to low 80s and Lake Michigan finally warm enough for a swim at Neshotah Beach. May and September are the sweet-spot shoulder months: daytime temps in the 60s, fewer mosquitoes, lower rental rates, and gorgeous fall color along the Mariners Trail in late September. Winter dips well below freezing with lake-effect snow, so most campgrounds (including Manitowoc County parks) close November through April. Pro tip: target the second week of August for SubFest at the Wisconsin Maritime Museum, where the USS Cobia is the star of a fireworks-capped weekend on the river.
weather.gov/grb/I've never driven an RV before. Will I be okay renting one in Manitowoc?
You'll do great. First time renting an RV in Manitowoc is genuinely easier than people expect, and you're never on your own. Every RVezy host gives you a hands-on orientation at pickup covering driving tips, hookups, slide-outs, the generator, and how to dump tanks. Manitowoc's grid-style downtown, flat eastern Wisconsin terrain, and wide highways like US-10 and I-43 are forgiving for new RVers. If you'd rather skip driving altogether, book a host who offers delivery and setup directly to your campsite. Pro tip: start with a campervan or small Class C for your first trip. They drive much like a large SUV and park easily at lakeside lots near the S.S. Badger ferry.
wisconsindot.gov/Pages/safety/safety-eng/teen-drivers/sharing-road.aspxWhat happens if something goes wrong with the RV during my trip?
You are never stranded. Every booking includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the RVezy protection plan, so a flat tire on Highway 42, a dead battery at Point Beach State Forest, or a generator hiccup at Camp 10 is just a phone call away. Your host is also reachable by message inside the RVezy app for quick questions like how to reset the inverter. On top of that, RVezy support is available before, during, and after every trip. Pro tip: snap photos of the dashboard mileage, propane gauge, and tank levels at pickup. It speeds up any assistance request and keeps your security deposit safe.
rvezy.com/insurance-and-protectionCan I take my Manitowoc RV rental to Michigan or other states?
Yes, interstate travel is allowed and Manitowoc is a launchpad for some of the Midwest's best RV road trips. The S.S. Badger carferry sails from Manitowoc directly to Ludington, Michigan in four hours, opening up Sleeping Bear Dunes and the entire Lower Peninsula. You can also drive south to Chicago (160 miles), west to the Mississippi River, or north to Michigan's Upper Peninsula via Green Bay. Cross-border travel to Canada may be allowed depending on your host's insurance; message them through the listing before booking. Travel into Mexico is not permitted on any RVezy rental. Pro tip: book your S.S. Badger reservation as soon as your RV dates are locked in.
cbp.gov/travel/us-citizens/know-before-you-goWhat kind of fuel economy and gas budget should I plan for?
Plan around real-world numbers and you'll be fine. A Class C motorhome typically gets 8-10 MPG, a Class A around 6-8 MPG, a campervan 14-18 MPG, and a tow vehicle with a travel trailer 10-12 MPG. Wisconsin gas prices recently averaged around $3.10-$3.40 per gallon, with stations along I-43 and US-151 usually a few cents cheaper than downtown Manitowoc. For a typical 300-mile weekend loop to Door County and back, budget roughly $90-$130 in fuel for a midsize motorhome. Pro tip: fill up in Manitowoc or Two Rivers before heading into Door County, where prices climb noticeably the further north you drive.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book a campground near Manitowoc?
For summer weekends, book as early as you can. Wisconsin DNR opens reservations for state properties like Point Beach State Forest and Kohler-Andrae 11 months ahead through the official Wisconsin State Park reservation system, and the prime lakefront sites get snapped up the morning they release. Manitowoc County campgrounds open seasonally in spring with a small non-refundable reservation fee on top of the nightly site rate. Private parks like Camp 10 take reservations year-round. Pro tip: if you are flexible on dates, target Sunday through Thursday nights. You will find availability at even the most popular Lake Michigan sites just a week or two out.
dnr.wisconsin.gov/topic/parks/reservationsWhat are driving conditions like around Manitowoc?
Driving an RV around Manitowoc is refreshingly straightforward. The terrain along Lake Michigan is mostly flat, I-43 and US-10 are wide and well-maintained, and traffic is light compared to Milwaukee or Chicago. Watch for lake-effect fog along the shoreline in spring and fall, sudden squalls in summer, and snow squalls November through March. Downtown Manitowoc has a few low railroad underpasses near the harbor, so stick to 8th Street and Maritime Drive for tall rigs. Pro tip: if you're driving to Door County, take WI-42 along the coast instead of US-57 inland. The lakeside views are unmatched and there's less truck traffic to share the lane with.
511wi.gov/What amenities can I expect at Manitowoc-area campgrounds?
You'll find a great mix. Point Beach State Forest offers electric hookups (30-amp), modern restrooms, showers, a dump station, and potable water fill stations. Kohler-Andrae State Park has 50-amp sites plus a dump station near the entrance. Manitowoc County parks like Walla Hi have basic electric, vault or flush toilets, and shared water spigots. Private parks such as Camp 10 and Village Inn on the Lake have full hookups (water, sewer, electric), Wi-Fi, laundry, and pools. Where to dump in a pinch? Point Beach has a public dump station, and the Manitowoc County Expo also offers one. Pro tip: arrive before noon on Sunday checkout days to avoid the dump-station line.
dnr.wisconsin.gov/topic/parks/pointbeach/campingWhat's actually inside a typical Manitowoc RV rental?
More than you'd expect. A typical motorhome rental Manitowoc setup includes a queen or king bed, dinette and/or sofa that converts to extra sleeping space, a full kitchen (fridge, stove, microwave, sink), a bathroom with toilet and shower, climate control with furnace and roof AC, and seatbelted seating for travel. Most rigs include a TV, and many hosts offer mobile Wi-Fi hotspots as add-ons. Generators are standard on Class A and Class C motorhomes for off-grid power. Travel trailers and fifth wheels offer similar layouts minus the cab. Pro tip: message the host to confirm bedding, cookware, and a 'kitchen kit' are included. Most Manitowoc hosts provide them free or for a small fee.
energy.gov/energysaver/rv-and-camper-energy-efficiencyWhat add-ons and pickup options are available with Manitowoc RV rentals?
Lots of flexibility here. Popular add-ons in Manitowoc include linen and towel packages ($25-$50), kitchen kits, bike racks (handy for the Mariners Trail), portable grills, generators, kayaks, and pet packages. Many hosts also offer paid Wi-Fi hotspots and extra propane tanks. Pickup is usually at the host's home or a meeting point near downtown Manitowoc or Two Rivers, and delivery to local campgrounds like Point Beach State Forest is widely available for a flat fee plus mileage. Mileage policies vary by listing and are always shown upfront. Pro tip: bundle bike racks with your booking. The 13-mile paved Mariners Trail loop between Manitowoc and Two Rivers is the highlight of many guests' trips.
manitowoc.org/9/VisitorsHow does payment and the security deposit work for a Manitowoc RV rental?
Payment is simple and fully handled inside the RVezy platform. You pay by credit card at booking, and your card is charged for the rental and any add-ons you select. The security deposit is separate from your booking payment and is pre-authorized on your card before pickup. It is released after your trip ends, assuming the RV comes back in the condition it left. Never pay a host directly outside the platform. Pro tip: do a thorough video walkaround of the RV at pickup and dropoff with your host. It is the easiest way to ensure your full security deposit is returned promptly after your Manitowoc RV trip.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksHow should I prepare for cold weather if I'm renting an RV in Manitowoc in the shoulder season?
Shoulder-season RV camping near Manitowoc can be magical, with crisp lake breezes and empty trails, but a little prep goes a long way. Look for listings that mention four-season insulation, heated holding tanks, an enclosed underbelly, and a working propane furnace if you're traveling in April, May, October, or early November when overnight lows can dip into the 30s. Many Manitowoc hosts winterize their rigs from December through March, so winter availability is limited. Confirm shore power compatibility (most state parks here have 30-amp). Pro tip: a fall RV road trip from Manitowoc up to Door County's peak color in early October is one of Wisconsin's best-kept secrets. Bring layers and a thermos.
