Campgrounds near Phillips, Wisconsin
Phillips sits in Price County in Wisconsin's Northwoods, surrounded by the Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest and a dense web of lakes. The town is best known as the base for the Phillips Chain of Lakes and for musky and walleye fishing on nearby waters including Solberg Lake, Elk Lake, and the Flambeau River system.
RV travelers here choose between small private resorts on the water and county or forest-service campgrounds. Named options close to town include Brumley's Resort, Butternut Lake Campground, Moose Jaw Lodge and Resort, Spirit Falls Camping, and Northern Lure Resort and Campground LLC. Most are family-run lakeside operations with electric sites, docks, and boat launches rather than large commercial parks.
Beyond fishing, the area draws visitors for the Wisconsin Concrete Park, a sculpture park along Wisconsin Highway 13 in Phillips with over 200 folk art sculptures built with concrete and decorated with glass bottles and other found objects, the Smith Rapids Covered Bridge in the Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest, and access to the Flambeau Trail System for ATV and snowmobile riding. Downtown Phillips covers basic resupply needs including grocery, hardware, fuel, and a hospital, which makes it a workable base for longer RV trips into the surrounding forest.
Things to do around Phillips
Water is the main draw. The Phillips Chain of Lakes, Solberg Lake, and Butternut Lake all support fishing, swimming, kayaking, and boating, and the North Fork of the Flambeau River offers paddling and carry-in boat access. Solberg Lake covers 844 acres, is motorized, and holds many species of fish, and it is a popular musky and walleye water.
On land, families visit the Wisconsin Concrete Park in Phillips, a folk-art environment created by Fred Smith, who ran the Rock Garden Tavern on the property and began building the sculptures in 1948 after retiring from his career as a lumberjack. The Smith Rapids Covered Bridge sits north of Phillips in the Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest and is a common stop on drives through the surrounding rustic roads.
ATV and UTV riders use the Flambeau Trail System, and all campsites at Solberg Lake County Park are ATV accessible, with ATVs kept in campsites and on the park roads only.

The core RV season runs from mid-May through mid-October. Ice-out on area lakes typically happens in April, walleye and musky openers follow in May, and by Memorial Day most private resorts and county campgrounds are fully open with water service turned on. July and August are the busiest weeks with warm days, long light, and heavy fishing traffic on the chain of lakes.
Early fall is a strong shoulder window. Bugs drop off after Labor Day, foliage color usually peaks in late September and early October, and cool weather brings serious musky anglers back to the area. Nights get cold quickly through October.
Winter camping is limited. Solberg Lake County Park is open year-round, but pressure water and the sanitary dump station run from mid-April or May through September or late October, weather permitting, and the shower and flush toilet buildings run on the same seasonal schedule. Most private resorts around Phillips shut down or convert to cabin-only stays once water systems are winterized.
How to book a campground near Phillips
Private resorts including Brumley's Resort, Moose Jaw Lodge and Resort, Northern Lure Resort and Campground LLC, Spirit Falls Camping, and Butternut Lake Campground are booked directly with the operator by phone or through their own websites. Weekend and holiday sites for July and August fill months in advance, so lock in dates as early as possible.
County campgrounds in Price County use a mixed system. At Solberg Lake County Park, 67 campsites can be reserved online and 33 spots are under a first come, first serve policy, and a caretaker is on site from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day weekend.
Wisconsin State Park properties in the wider region use the state's separate online reservation system operated through the Department of Natural Resources. A Wisconsin State Park vehicle admission sticker is required for motor vehicles entering state parks, forests, or recreation areas, and it can be purchased daily or annually.
What to expect on-site
Expect small, wooded, lakefront campgrounds rather than resort-style RV parks. Sites at operations like Brumley's Resort, Butternut Lake Campground, Moose Jaw Lodge and Resort, Spirit Falls Camping, and Northern Lure Resort and Campground LLC generally include electric hookups, with water and dump stations available on-site rather than at every site. Full hookups exist but are not the default. At Solberg Lake County Park, 60 electric-only sites accept big rigs up to 40 feet, with tables, water, toilets, showers, dump, firewood, a playground, beach, boat launch, and trails.
Cell coverage in the Northwoods is uneven and drops off fast on forest roads and back lakes. Grocery, fuel, propane, and hardware are all available in downtown Phillips. Black bears live throughout Price County, so food and trash need to be stored inside the rig overnight. Mosquitoes and black flies peak from late May into July. Firewood should be bought locally to comply with Wisconsin emerald ash borer rules.
