Campgrounds near Ripon, Wisconsin
Ripon sits in east-central Wisconsin, roughly 8 miles west of Big Green Lake and within an easy drive of the upper Fox River corridor. RV travelers use the city as a base for lake recreation, small-town dining, and access to county and municipal parks across Fond du Lac, Green Lake, and Winnebago counties.
Closest to town, Hattie Sherwood Campground is a city-run park on the north shore of Green Lake with a boat launch, modern restrooms, and hot showers. Green Lake Campground and Green Lake Conference Center-american Baptist Assembly sit near the same lakeshore and add options for lakeside stays. Shady Oaks Campground provides a quieter option a short drive from Ripon.
RV travelers focused on fishing often head to Eureka Dam Campsites on the upper Fox River, about 20 minutes north. Together these campgrounds cover the mix of hookup levels, lake access, and river frontage most families need for a weekend or extended stay.
Things to do near Ripon
Big Green Lake is the main draw. It is the deepest natural inland lake in Wisconsin and supports swimming, boating, and year-round fishing for lake trout, walleye, and bass. Public boat launches, marinas, and a lakeside beach across from Hattie Sherwood Campground make water access easy for campers.
The upper Fox River near Eureka Dam Campsites is a well-known fishing area for walleye, white bass, and catfish, with fishing piers, a boardwalk, and a boat launch maintained by the Wisconsin DNR at the Eureka Lock and Dam site. Ripon itself offers a walkable historic downtown, the Little White Schoolhouse, and the Ceresco Prairie Conservancy on the Ripon College campus for short hikes.
Day trips reach Oshkosh, Fond du Lac on Lake Winnebago, and Berlin within about half an hour.

The camping season around Ripon runs from spring thaw through mid-fall. Most local campgrounds open in spring and close in mid to late October. Hattie Sherwood Campground operates from May 1 through October 15, and Eureka Dam Campsites is open March through October 31, giving shoulder-season anglers a longer window on the Fox River.
Summer weekends draw the heaviest demand, especially around Independence Day, EAA AirVenture in nearby Oshkosh in late July, and Labor Day. Electric and lakeside sites at Green Lake area campgrounds typically fill weeks in advance for these dates.
September and early October bring cooler nights, thinner crowds, and fall color across the hardwoods around Green Lake. Winter camping options in the immediate Ripon area are limited, since city and private parks close for the season and utilities are shut off. Travelers wanting a cold-weather stay generally head to Wisconsin state park campgrounds that remain open through the off-season.
How to book a campsite
Booking systems vary by campground. Hattie Sherwood Campground takes reservations through its official site at hattiesherwood.com or by phone, with a 14-day cancellation window and a 9-day maximum stay. Green Lake Campground handles reservations by phone or through its website, and Eureka Dam Campsites requires a two-day deposit for weekend and holiday bookings.
For nearby Wisconsin state parks, reservations run through the Going to Camp system at wisconsin.goingtocamp.com or by calling 1-888-947-2757. Sites open up to 11 months in advance, released at 9 a.m. Central Time, and popular summer weekends can sell out the same morning they become available.
A Wisconsin State Park vehicle admission pass is required at DNR properties in addition to the campsite fee, and nonresidents pay a per-night surcharge.
What to expect on-site
Sites near Ripon range from lakeside city and resort parks to rustic riverside pads. Hattie Sherwood Campground has 38 sites with 20 to 50 amp electric service, modern restrooms, hot showers, a dump station, and a boat ramp, but allows only one camping unit and one vehicle per site and prohibits carry-in firewood, which must be purchased on site.
Eureka Dam Campsites offers 20 pull-through RV sites with water and electric plus 10 tent sites, with 20, 30, and 50 amp service available. There are no sewer hookups at individual pads, but a dump station sits near the entrance, along with restrooms and a fish cleaning table.
Quiet hours are enforced at most local parks, typically 10 p.m. to 8 a.m. Cell coverage is generally reliable near Green Lake and Ripon, and grocery stores, laundromats, and fuel are available in Berlin, Ripon, and Green Lake.

Frequently asked questions about campgrounds near Ripon, WI
How much does it cost to rent an RV in Ripon, WI?
RV rental in Ripon, WI is one of the best values in the Fox Valley, with travel trailers commonly starting around $95 to $150 per night and Class C motorhomes typically ranging from $185 to $295 per night. Campervan rental Ripon options usually land in the middle, and many hosts offer weekly discounts that noticeably reduce the nightly rate. To find cheap RV rental Ripon options, search midweek dates in May or September when Green Lake and Ripon College visitors thin out, then filter by price range. Pro tip: bundling host add-ons like camp chairs, linens, and a starter propane tank often costs less than buying them retail before your trip.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Ripon%2C%20WisconsinDo I need a special license to rent an RV in Ripon, Wisconsin?
Good news: a regular driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in Ripon, Wisconsin. The Wisconsin DMV does not require a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) or any special endorsement for personal RVs, even larger Class A motorhomes, as long as they're used recreationally. You will need to be 25 or older to book on RVezy, and you'll confirm your ID right inside the platform during checkout, so there's no in-person paperwork at pickup. Visiting from outside the US? Bring your home-country license plus an International Driving Permit (IDP) and you're set. Most first-time renters in Ripon are surprised how quickly the whole process moves.
wisconsindot.gov/Pages/dmv/license-drvs/how-to-apply/dr-license.aspxWhat protection or coverage is included with my Ripon RV rental?
Every RV rental in Ripon, WI booked through RVezy includes a renter protection plan plus 24/7 roadside assistance, so you are covered from the moment you pull out of the driveway. The protection plan helps cover most damage to the vehicle during your trip, giving you real peace of mind without arranging your own RV insurance separately. During checkout you choose from different protection tiers (you pick the level, not the host) so you can match coverage to your comfort level and budget. It is designed to protect your wallet if the unexpected happens on your Wisconsin RV trip. Book confidently, then focus on the fun.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat is the cancellation policy if my Ripon trip plans change?
Booking is low-risk: RVezy sets the cancellation policy (not individual hosts), and there is a grace period after booking where you can cancel for a full refund. After that, your refund depends on how far out from your trip you cancel and whether unusual circumstances apply. If a host ever cancels on you, RVezy refunds your booking or provides travel credit so your plans stay protected. You will see the specifics during checkout and in your booking confirmation, so there are no surprises. Pro tip: lock in your Ripon RV rental early for popular weekends like Ripon College graduation or EAA AirVenture in nearby Oshkosh.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037736674-Understanding-the-cancellation-policy-for-guestsCan I bring my dog on a Ripon RV rental?
Yes, plenty of hosts offer pet-friendly RV rental Ripon options, so your dog can come along. Toggle the Pet-Friendly filter on RVezy and you will see motorhomes and travel trailers where pets are welcome (some hosts charge a small cleaning fee, which is clearly listed on the listing page). Ripon is a great dog town: leashed pups are welcome on the Mascoutin Valley State Trail just outside town, around Green Lake's public shorelines, and at most Wisconsin State Park campgrounds like High Cliff and Hartman Creek. Pro tip: message the host before booking to mention your dog's size and breed so they can recommend the easiest layout for muddy paws after a Wisconsin hike.
dnr.wisconsin.gov/topic/parks/rulesCan the RV be delivered to my campsite near Ripon?
Yes, RV delivery Ripon is one of the easiest ways to start your trip, especially if it is your first time. Many Ripon-area hosts will tow or drive the RV to your campsite at Hattie Sherwood Campground in Green Lake, High Cliff State Park, Hartman Creek State Park, or even a friend's driveway in town, then level it, hook up water, sewer, and electric, and walk you through every system before they leave. Use the Delivery filter on RVezy and enter your destination to see hosts who offer it (most charge a per-mile fee plus a setup fee). Pro tip: choosing delivery means you can fly into Appleton or Milwaukee, rent a small car, and skip towing a big rig altogether.
dnr.wisconsin.gov/topic/parks/hartmanHow does mileage work, and how far can I drive from Ripon?
Most Ripon hosts include a daily mileage allowance (commonly 100 to 150 free miles per day), and some offer RV rental with unlimited mileage, which is perfect for a longer Wisconsin loop. From Ripon you are roughly 20 miles to Oshkosh and Lake Winnebago, 35 miles to Fond du Lac, 75 miles to Wisconsin Dells, 90 miles to Madison, 100 miles to Milwaukee, and about 130 miles to Door County's Sturgeon Bay. Extra miles are typically $0.35 to $0.45 each, listed clearly on every listing. Pro tip: if you are planning a big RV road trip from Ripon up to Door County or the Northwoods, filter for unlimited mileage upfront so you can sightsee without watching the odometer.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Ripon%2C%20WisconsinWhere are the best campgrounds near Ripon for RVs?
You have fantastic options within a short drive. Hattie Sherwood Campground in Green Lake (about 8 miles west) sits right on Wisconsin's deepest natural lake with electric sites and a swim beach. High Cliff State Park (about 35 miles east on Lake Winnebago) is a must for the limestone bluff views and electric hookups. Hartman Creek State Park near Waupaca pairs perfectly with Chain O' Lakes paddling, and Kalbus' Country Harbor in Oshkosh is great for boaters. Pro tip: Wisconsin State Park sites book through the Wisconsin DNR reservation system up to 11 months in advance, so reserve as soon as your dates are set.
dnr.wisconsin.gov/topic/parks/highcliffWhen is the best time of year for an RV trip from Ripon?
Late May through early October is prime time for RV camping Ripon, with daytime highs from 70 to 82 degrees Fahrenheit in summer and crisp 50s and 60s in September and early October when the maples around Green Lake turn brilliant red and gold. July and August are warmest and busiest (think EAA AirVenture Oshkosh in late July, which fills every campground for 50 miles). June brings fewer mosquitoes than you'd expect thanks to the breezy lake country, and fall foliage peaks around the first week of October. Pro tip: book a shoulder-season Ripon RV trip in mid-September for cheaper nightly rates, open campsites, and arguably the prettiest light on Green Lake all year.
weather.gov/grb/Can I rent an RV in Ripon during winter?
Yes, winter rentals are possible and can be magical if you are prepared. Some Ripon-area hosts keep their motorhomes available November through March for ice fishing trips on Green Lake and Lake Winnebago, snowmobiling Wisconsin's extensive trail system, or a quiet getaway to Wisconsin Dells indoor waterparks. Look for listings that mention heated holding tanks, enclosed underbelly, and shore-power capability so your water lines stay safe in subzero nights (January lows in Ripon often dip into the single digits Fahrenheit). Many winter campers stay at campgrounds with year-round electric hookups or simply park in a friend's driveway with 30-amp power. Pro tip: message the host first to confirm winterization and ask about extra propane, because a 20-pound tank can disappear fast on a cold Wisconsin weekend.
weather.gov/grb/I've never driven an RV before. Will I be okay starting in Ripon?
Absolutely. Ripon is one of the friendliest places in Wisconsin for first time renting an RV: traffic is light, Highways 23, 44, and 49 are flat and well-maintained, and you're not dealing with mountain grades or big-city congestion. Every RVezy host gives you a full walkthrough at pickup covering the generator, slide-outs, leveling, water, propane, and waste tanks, and you can text them throughout your trip with questions. Choose a travel trailer or Class C under 28 feet for the easiest learning curve, or skip driving entirely with delivery. Pro tip: do a short practice loop around the Ripon College area or out to Green Lake on day one to get comfortable with mirrors and turning before heading further afield.
wisconsindot.gov/Pages/safety/safety-eng/work-zones/default.aspxWhat happens if something breaks down during my trip?
You are never on your own. Every Ripon RV rental on RVezy includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the protection plan, covering tows, jump-starts, tire changes, lockouts, and fuel delivery anywhere in Wisconsin and beyond. If a system inside the RV acts up, like the fridge, awning, or slide-out, your host is your first call: they know their rig better than anyone and can usually walk you through a fix in minutes. RVezy customer support is also available before, during, and after your trip if you need backup. Pro tip: save the roadside number and your host's contact in your phone before pulling out of the driveway so you are set even in spotty cell zones near Wautoma or the Mecan River.
rvezy.com/insurance-and-protectionCan I take my Ripon RV rental across state lines or into Canada?
Yes, interstate travel is welcome on most Ripon RV rentals, so you can roll into Illinois for a Chicago skyline weekend, Minnesota for the North Shore, or the Upper Peninsula of Michigan for waterfalls and Lake Superior beaches. Trips into Canada are sometimes allowed depending on the host and the protection plan you choose, so message the host directly from the listing to confirm before booking and ask them to note it in your trip agreement. Travel into Mexico is not permitted on RVezy rentals because the protection plan does not extend there. Pro tip: a popular RV road trip from Ripon is the loop through Door County and across to the Mackinac Bridge, which keeps you stateside with stunning Great Lakes scenery the whole way.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validityWhat kind of fuel mileage should I expect, and how much will gas cost?
Plan on roughly 8 to 10 miles per gallon for a Class A, 10 to 14 for a Class C motorhome rental Ripon, 12 to 18 for a tow vehicle pulling a travel trailer, and 18 to 22 for a Class B campervan. Wisconsin gas prices generally hover around $3.10 to $3.50 per gallon, and you'll find competitive pricing at Kwik Trip locations in Ripon, Berlin, and Fond du Lac (Kwik Trip is a local favorite for clean restrooms and good coffee, too). A typical 4-day, 400-mile loop in a Class C runs about $120 to $160 in fuel. Pro tip: top off in Ripon before heading north toward the Northwoods, where stations get sparser and prices climb a bit.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book a campsite near Ripon?
For Wisconsin State Parks like High Cliff, Hartman Creek, Kohler-Andrae, and Devil's Lake, reserve through the Wisconsin DNR system as soon as your dates open, which is 11 months out. Summer weekends, the Fourth of July, and EAA AirVenture week (late July in Oshkosh) sell out fastest, often within hours of opening. Private campgrounds like Hattie Sherwood in Green Lake usually have more flexibility but still fill up by May for July and August. Pro tip: if you strike out on a state park, check back regularly for cancellations, and you will often snag a lakeside site somebody just gave up.
dnr.wisconsin.gov/topic/parks/reservationsWhat amenities can I expect at campgrounds near Ripon?
Wisconsin campgrounds near Ripon are well-equipped. State parks like High Cliff and Hartman Creek typically offer 30 and 50-amp electric sites, flush toilets, hot showers, potable water fill stations, and dump stations (a few full-hookup sites are available at select parks). Private parks like Hattie Sherwood Campground and Circle R Campground often add Wi-Fi, laundry, swim beaches, and camp stores. For dumping and water on the road, the Kwik Trip in Berlin and several Fond du Lac travel plazas offer public dump stations for a small fee. Pro tip: pack a 25-foot fresh water hose and a 30-to-50-amp dogbone adapter, because Wisconsin sites mix and match pedestal types from one loop to the next.
dnr.wisconsin.gov/topic/parks/campingWhat's actually inside the RVs available in Ripon?
Most Ripon-area rentals come ready to camp. Expect a queen or king bed plus convertible dinette and sofa sleepers (sleeping 4 to 8 total), a full kitchen with fridge, freezer, microwave, propane stove, and often an oven, a wet bath or full bathroom with hot shower, roof-mounted air conditioning, propane furnace, and seatbelted seats for everyone traveling. Many listings include a generator for boondocking, an outdoor speaker setup, a power awning, and a TV (Wi-Fi is hit-or-miss depending on the host's hotspot). Family RV trip Ripon listings often add bunks and outdoor kitchens. Pro tip: filter by sleeps count and check the listing photos for the floor plan so you know exactly where everyone will sleep before booking.
travelwisconsin.com/article/rv-camping/everything-you-need-to-know-about-renting-an-rv-in-wisconsinWhat add-ons and pickup options should I know about?
Ripon hosts make customizing easy. Popular add-ons include camp chairs and tables ($15 to $30 per trip), bedding and towel packages ($30 to $60), kitchen kits, bikes, kayaks, generators, Wi-Fi hotspots, and pre-filled propane. Pickup is usually at the host's home in or near Ripon, with a 30 to 60-minute orientation included, but delivery to your campsite or a meeting point in Oshkosh, Fond du Lac, or Madison is widely offered for a per-mile fee. Mileage policies vary by listing (100 to 150 free miles per day is standard, with unlimited options available). Pro tip: ask the host about a generator add-on if you're heading to Eureka Dam or any rustic Wisconsin site without electric hookups.
dnr.wisconsin.gov/topic/parksHow does payment and the security deposit work?
Payment is simple and secure: you pay through RVezy with a credit or debit card at the time of booking, with no cash changing hands at pickup. A refundable security deposit (typically $500 to $1,500 depending on the rig) is placed as a hold on your card before the trip and released after a successful return. To avoid any deposit hiccups, walk through the RV with your host at pickup and dropoff, snap a few timestamped photos, and return the rig with the fuel and propane levels listed in your agreement. Pro tip: ask your host about a pre-trip video walkthrough so you are already familiar with switches and tanks before you even arrive in Ripon.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksWhat are the best road trip destinations from Ripon?
Ripon is perfectly positioned for a Wisconsin RV road trip. Head 80 miles west to Wisconsin Dells for waterparks and the Wisconsin River, 90 miles southwest to Devil's Lake State Park for the state's most photographed bluffs, 130 miles northeast to Door County for cherry orchards and Lake Michigan lighthouses, 110 miles south to Milwaukee for lakefront festivals, or 220 miles north into the Northwoods around Minocqua for pine-lined lakes. For a quick overnight, Hartman Creek State Park near Waupaca's Chain O' Lakes is only 45 miles away. Pro tip: a 4-day loop of Ripon to Door County to Kohler-Andrae State Park and back is around 350 miles total, fits inside most standard mileage packages, and shows off the best of eastern Wisconsin.
