Campgrounds and RV parks near Sparta, WI

Sparta sits in Monroe County in the Driftless Area of west-central Wisconsin, a region of forested ridges, spring-fed creeks, and rail-trail corridors. The town is the western trailhead of the Elroy-Sparta State Trail, a 32.5-mile Wisconsin State rail trail between Elroy and Sparta, and it is widely considered the first rail-to-trail in the United States, opened in 1967. Most RV travelers use Sparta as a base for cycling the trail tunnels, paddling the Kickapoo River, or day-tripping to nearby state parks. Campground options within a short drive range from full-hookup private resorts to primitive state park sites. Leon Valley Campground and Neshonoc Lakeside Camping Resort sit closest to town, while Lost Falls Resort Campgrounds and Yogi Bears Jellystone Park Warrens serve families looking for on-site activities. For a state park experience, Horse Camp at Wildcat Mountain State Park lies roughly 40 miles southeast, above the Kickapoo Valley. Most private parks near Sparta handle their own reservations directly. State-managed sites at Wildcat Mountain book through the Wisconsin DNR reservation system.
